Im surprised Wrestlemania 2000 didnt make the list due to the main event alone. I guess the Triangle ladder match + Two-fall Triple threat match saved it for some

My friends and I were watching the PPV live and it was just impossible to think about the rest of the matches. I can't even imagine how much worse it was to be backstage and get told the show must go on.
It blows my mind that after Owen's fall the show wasn't cancelled and the ring and catwalk area (or wherever Owen descended from) wasn't treated like a crime scene. Obviously, something went very wrong and preserving anything that would help the investigation should have been paramount.
I was watching Over The Edge and I had no idea why they were showing the crowd and it wasn't until my sister figured out that Owen really got hurt and ill never forget once PPV ended my cousins and friends called me to ask did Owen really died. That one day I would love to forget
You handled the number 1 spot on this video with perfection. Such a dark sad day in wrestling. I knew straight away it had to be number 1 but for very sad tragic reasons. We all miss Owen, he was an amazing performer.
Owen's death still brings tears to my eyes even all these years later, and I'm not a particularly emotional guy. Knew as soon as the sombre music started that I was gonna be a mess. If you want something far more in depth and informative that Dark Side of the Ring listen to The Lapsed Fan Wrestling Podcast episode about Over the Edge 1999. It is about 9 hours long and goes into great detail about everything that happened that night and the aftermath.
I remember hours after the over the edge ppv hearing on the local news about Owen, It was so shocking, still remember it like it was yesterday. Didn't want to believe it. I didn't get the ppv so i didn't know it happened till i seen it on the news.
I just can't imagine the pressure to make a call like cancelling sending everyone home ect. I mean it's just a situation that hadn't happened like that before
I have to say Over the Edge 99/Raw is Owen is probably the one thing yet to come in Reliving the War I'm actually kinda dreading and at the time of this we are getting very close to it now. I know it's not something that can be ignored and I have absolute faith you will be fully respectful when covering it etc but I'll still be glad to get that part of the Monday night wars out the way. Anyway I didn't become a full fan again until 2000 so I missed most of the Attitude eras PPV's. But looking back now 1999 particually was a year with many faults. I must admit I like Wrestlemania 15 but I also admit there is a bit of Bias as it was my first ever WWF DVD. Good job. :)
almost got through the whole thing without crying, without remembering. still saddens me greatly that whole incident with Owen. I remember going to school the next day and talking about it
Same, I loved watching the weekly shows but never got to watch PPVs as a child, and when I had heard about Owen at school the next day it just broke my heart; I remember I cried so badly they called my parents to come and try to console me, and eventually they just brought me home. I remember me and my dad (an even bigger wrestling fan than me) just sitting at home the rest of that day, spending some time together as we mourned one of our favorite wrestlers.
Thanks for these videos, I'm going to have to say, even though I've watched every episode of RTW, I'll be skipping Over the Edge '99. I'll watch every other show, but that one I feel would put me in a dark place. Thanks for your work & take care too.
Back in high school I had my own 'Top X' favorite matches written down on a journal I kept, and I remember having HHH vs. Vince from Armageddon 99 on it. It's probably been over twenty years since I last watched that match. At this point I don't think I even want to find out if it holds up or not 😂
Great videos my guy. I just ran into Jamie Noble from the WWE at the gas station. He is probably in seeing his family for the holidays. He lives less than 10 mins from me, well he grew up there and that’s where some of his family is. I was going to ask to take a picture but he was leaving and I didn’t have my phone anyway lol.
I didnt have sky in the late 90s and i found out about Owens passing on BBC Radio 1 which was very surreal as wrestling was rarely talked about in mainstream media back then .
@kidz4p509 oddly it did but Vince being Vince made sure it didn't last too long. The McMahon-Helmsley thing happened the same year and I still don't see the reason why Vince joined forces with Triple H
But they did though. Look at the Rock vs Big Show match from March 2000 when Vince pulls up in the limo to help the Rock. Wrestlers today would kill for the kind of pop he got that night. So yeah, their expectations were met and then some.
Its kinda hilarious though. You would never see the little Smark Tony Khan doing any of this, yet Vince was willing to do whatever he had to for the success of the company and to get over talent no matter how much punishment he had to take. Really shows how one actually loved his business and the other is just a trust fund smark smashing is wrestling figures together. Tony can't even book worth a damn, yet actually has guys like AA working backstage who could literally book things if he wasn't just playing booker.
Damn...what a note to end the video. Normally lists like these are sources of fun and amusement at the silly or dumb choices made during the time but, instead we are reminded of one of the worst tragedies and one of the WWE's biggest sources of shame. I don't care if Savage v Steamboat happened at the same PPV, that event deserves nothing but the lowest scores. Not just because a man died, but because he died from negligence and they still decided to keep the show running. Owen's blood was still in the ring for God's sake...
Over the edge will always be a black spot during the era. It should be number one for worst on a lot of list because of owen. Hard to phantom watching it now after all these years knowing what happened. When watching sting descend from the rafters, then he start coming out from the entrance, i wondered why until i heard it was because of what happened to owen.
@@michaelaburns734 i remember watching i think dark side of owens death and listening to dlo talk about it. Dlo was so messed up after seeing owen go by. @@ananyaraizada7657 Well, WWE are the ones responsible for Owen's death (mainly the Vince duo [Mr. McMahon & Vince "Vic Venom" Russo] and grossly unqualified stunt coordinator Bobby Talbert), so...
The tragic passing of Owen Hart and how the WWE -- or rather more specifically how Vince McMahon -- dealt with it was the beginning of the end for me as an active wrestling fan. It was all just so appalling and it really helped kill off a lot of love I had and turned me into just a casual occasional viewer until I became a non-active nostalgic one. I love Wrestling Bios and Wrestling With Wregret for helping rekindle some fond nostalgia for the sport, but I sadly cannot bring myself to be an active fan anymore. 😢
The only people who still cry about how WWF continued the show are the ones that have never ran anything above a lemonade stand at best. It was a damned if they do, damned if they don't moment. But of course the armchair bookers always make sure they drone on decades later how they wouldn't have continued the show, because they have no clue how owning something successful works. Either decision would have been hard and, there would be people crying to this day whichever decision they made.
it helps that wrestling sucked for at least 10 years before AEW came along. hell, i don't even watch them, but anyone that actually puts on hardcore matches with actual weapons, gimmicked or not, deserves at least some damn recognition for it. even TNA was probably more worth watching for some of those years.
Armageddon 99 will always hold a special place in my heart for two reasons. 1) I was 13 at the time and my parents allowed me to invite a few friends to come over and watch the event with me and 2) I loved this arena setup and I picked it all the time in No Mercy for the N64 lol.
I saw WM 15 live and it simply didn’t have that epic Wrestlemania feel that you’d normally expect (for the most part anyway). It felt like an overpriced In your house event
What made me sad about remembering the Kennel from Hell match is that those dogs, and those dogs puppies have lived full lives and are no longer with us 24 years later, it’s possible but even likely that the original dogs grandchildren are even gone by now. Kind of sobering that this was so long ago that three generation of dogs have come and gone. ❤️🐾🐾
Man I’ll never forget over the edge. I was listening to it and watching a “scrambled” picture when it happened so I literally thought it was a work until JR said what happened. Crazy
The harness line did not malfunction .they used a harness used something for like a bag instead. It was malpractice manslaughter and settled out of court
The '99 Royal Rumble shoulda been listed. In regards to Over the Edge '99, I saw an interview with Debra where she said she wouldn't have continued the show, but she's not the one running the multi-billion dollar company. I kinda agree with her. It's easy to say what you would or wouldn't have done, when you're not in the position to choose.
I knew over the edge would be #1. I too was watching the PPV, I almost got tickets since I lived not too far but I had to work at the video store that night. I was checking out a few customers as the incident happened. I was glued to the TV and so was the few people in line as wrestling was pretty big in our small town. We were in awe. The RAW after was the saddest RAW Ive ever watched next to eddies tribute (that may have been smackdown...I think they did both shows but its the one chris just breaks)
Inspired by your channel I did start doing a rewatch of the wrestling years, from 1996 up until 2000 now. Over the Edge was the PPV that made stop for a while, having gained so much more appreciation for Owen since. Armageddon 99, and the angle around Triple H and Stephanie before that was a slog.
I almost stopped watching wrestling after over the edge 99 watching my favorite wrestler die in front of my eyes as an 11 year old kid hurt then still hurts now.
I remember Over the Edge 99 like it was yesterday - when I was talking to people in my school the next day some thought the Owen incident was part of the storyline. I wonder how Reliving the War will cover the Owen memorial WCW Nitro match between Bret and Benoit - that could end up having its own dedicated video.
Over the Edge is definitely the worst. And it may not be the time or place but I fully am in the camp that the two Vince’s(Russo and McMahon) are responsible. They had a world class and well respected athlete and gave him a stupid ass gimmick from the 80’s. Resulting in a dangerous stunt and the loss of a life
I ordered nearly every ppv that year leading up to over the edge. I missed that show, didn't have the money, but that night the news broke in to mention Owen had died. It was very sad. RIP Owen.
Random, but a video on the 2003 album “Be A Man” by Randy Savage would be super interesting. Maybe that can lead to a “wrestling album reviews/background” segment as well
Yes please! My cousin showed me that back then we lost our minds That was one of the best albums of 2003 out of nowhere Be A Man prolly in my top 10 diss tracks honestly
@@aceassn716 @OliveMule I had to come back to say that I was in a record store today, and under the staff picks was the 2003 classic “Be A Man” in vinyl! I didn’t think it was anything other than a CD, let alone still being pressed
Everyone thought I was crazy back in 99 when I saying believe it or not wcw still had better matches an events.. despite that finger poke of doom garbage, their roster was stacked along with talent for TV, US, Cruiser, Tag titles
I would like to see this video about the RA era because there we’re definitely better ppvs in that era. While the attitude era had more star power and better build
Vince McMahon with that poor excuse “Owen would have wanted the show to continue” I’m 100% certain and God Forbid if that was Shane on that harness he would have stopped the show immediately. That was a terrible decision by Vince McMahon!
I still cant believe that A. the harness had no issues during practices, and B. Whoever gave Owen the idea of that entrance (probably Russo considering Roddy Piper's comment during Russo's first run in TNA) thought it was a good idea
Survivor Series 99 I felt so swindled bc they marketed that ppv as Austin v Rock v HHH and having it be Big Show instead was garbage. I hate when they shoot angles at PPV's.
I didn't expect Over the Edge at #1 because I thought it would be excluded. While WWE deserves to be ass blasted for continuing the show, the talent that took part does not. It's a bit tasteless both to Owen's memory and the talent that CageMatch didn't remove ratings on this one.
It was a ppv, why should it be excluded? Why is it tasteless to include? It was the worst ppv in wrestling history, and maybe the worst day in wrestling history. It’s tasteless the ppv continued after the tragedy. Saying it’s tasteless to have as the worst ppv because it’s disrespectful to the wrestlers is crazy.
RIP Owen Hart, a class act! I remember recording this event and when watching it, the Jeff Jarrett interview touching, even then i knew he was breaking character to provide support for a friend. Such a sad day :(
Imagine if the owners ... Eric & vince ... never got in the ring or turned into characters... they tipped the scales from believable to unbelievable for me
I was at both of those Unforgiven PPVS. Seeing the Kennel from Hell match live wasn't so great for the audience. Although I'll never forget the Inferno match from the other one. Every time Taker or Kane took a bump, you could feel the explosion of heat. I enjoyed both PPV's but thats bc I was there.
The whole argument of “Owen would have wanted the show to go on” never made sense to me. Even if it’s true, it doesn’t really matter. You can’t have so many people experience trauma and tragedy and expect them to brush it off, no matter who would have wanted them to.
I've no idea why, but a few weeks ago I couldn't get watching Armageddon 99 out of my head. Resubscribed to the Network and did just that. I had a great time!
@@eymanmohamed9440exactly. It's the worst ppvs but the quality overall was very, very high. The ppvs weren't great but Raw was otherworldly at that time.
The problem with 1999 from a wrestling standpoint. The most important events to happened from a storyline perspective, happened in the first week. Which makes the year feel like it's hit peak already. And it's always harder to watch a show after it peak. So that's my guess on why 1999 is a weird year for wrestling.
Honestly agreed. I get annoyed hearing these attitude Era D*"k Riders say "Attitude Era was prime WWE man nothing during that era was trash " when in reality there were a lot of trash in that era. Every Era in WWE has trash in them
A friend of mine had WM XV on VHS (remember those?) and since I didn't have Sky TV, I borrowed it and watched it more times than most have seen the ppv. It is not great and really didn't seem like the show of shows.
Idk I have a soft spot for Unforgiven 98 just beacuse it and Wrestlemania 14 where some of the first wrestling VHS I ever owned. Its kinda meh but kid me was hype to see any WWF show id never seen. I feel the same about Fully Loaded 98 for the same reasons.
I'm 2 minutes into the video, and I know EXACTLY which PPV is gonna be number one. And it should be. Vince deserves all the heat (earthly & otherwise) for keeping that show going. If you've seen the Jeff Jarrett podcast where he talked about hoping that Owen would be okay until he stepped into the ring and felt how his fall had physically warped it & just knowing at that moment that his friend was dead... God, that's just heartbreaking. Not looking forward to that RTL, tbh. But yeah, that's the absolute bottom of not just this era but maybe of WWE. RIP, King of Harts.
Can't argue with OTE '99 being the worst PPV just from an emotional standpoint. I remember my cousin and I being disappointed they wasted a KOTR on Billy Gunn. I loved him as a kid but even I knew he wasn't on the level of guys like The Rock, Austin, or Taker. Not sure it counts as Attitude Era, but I'm surprised to see DX In Your House wasn't on here. A main event that we knew Ken Shamrock wouldn't win and a heavily promoted Sgt. Slaughter match.
This proves my point that 1999 is a overrated wrestling year. The weekly TV was great but most of the non-TV stuff including PPV’s, matches, and storylines were garbage. The Attitude Era is still their best era but fans still highly overrate it too much due to how boring wrestling is nowadays. I’m not surprised that Over The Edge was #1. The tragedy should have never happened. There is a very popular conspiracy theory by wrestling fans that Owen’s death was a setup by McMahon and Russo to get back at his brother Bret over switching to WCW after the Montreal Screwjob and how his family was treated in WWE. Like I don’t know if this is true. Given how vile Russo and McMahon are and how they handled the tragedy by letting the show go on, it is possible for the conspiracy to be true. Overall the accident did happen and it’s one of the biggest tragedies in wrestling alongside Eddie Guerrero’s passing. Owen will be missed. 🤷🏾♂️
Look at the difference between WWE and WCW's worst PPV's of the War era. Even the worst WWE shows have at least one match or segment worth looking at. WCW's worst were total garbage from start to end.
While many of us do look at the Attitude Era & Monday Night War through somewhat rose tinted glasses the WWE in some aspects have gone to far the other way nowadays
@@Chuck_EL people calling a cool thing cool doesn't prove anything. i wasn't even alive during, let's say Feudal Japan, if i say ninjas or samurai are cool, is that nostalgia? no.

I may have missed it, but I would've made it clear what this time frame is. 'Attitude Era' is a tiny bit subjective to the exact start date. The end date is a bit more clear.
Whatever parameters people use, all the said ppv's are within the period most people use for the attitude Era. All the listed ppvs were from 98 to 2000.
@@anthonyanderson9303 This is not true at all. It's why I asked. Some think In started in 1996 with Austin's KOTR promo, or Survivor Series 1997, I could go on and on.
@@mulldrifterz6469I definitely think it should be considered to have started in 1996, especially with how close Bash at the Beach and King of the Ring were. It’s as clean a delineation as we really have. Anyone who thinks it took until Austin WON the world title is crazy. He changed the landscape long before that.
I feel like that deserved to be Bradshaw that felt the power of The Bean instead of Bart Gunn. Some kind of cosmic shift changed universes when jbl got the world title after being an actual bully pos.
@@woobgamer5210 The thing is, the BRAWL FOR ALL was shoot fighting, not staged. So...who's really at fault here? Russo for coming up with it to spite JBL, JBL for taking part in it, Bart Gunn for letting WWE lowball him, or WWE itself for airing such a concept in front of fans who wanted to see wrestling, only to be told "This is real, while the rest of the product is fake nonsense" whenever it was slapped onto TV screens?
Every era has its ups and down, nothing is perfect, but their is no doubt the attitude era was the hottest time in pro wrestling history, an era where everybody got over, it proof that the tradition of the 80's need it to step aside in order for the business to get better and it did, wrestling got More graphic, and more unique
Surprised wrestlemania 2000 wasn’t on the list. There was only one singles match on that show and it was terri vs the cat. The triangle ladder match was great but the rest of the matches were kinda lame.
I am sure i speak for all of us here but I cannot wait for your review of OTE 99 and Raw is Owen. I am sure they will end up being some of the best tributes for Owen in TH-cam.
The worst part about the whole Over the Edge situation is that it's going to be hard for the WWF to wipe that PPV from existence because the biggest title in the company changed hands the same night of the incident that made said PPV infamous and notorious. Especially considering the gimmick Undertaker had in 1999, if they weren't going to cancel the show immediately after the fall, they could have postponed the title change until the next week on Raw or at the next PPV or even the night after would, if nothing else, help with erasing Over the Edge 1999 from the history books.
I didn't see Over the Edge live. I was hanging out with friends. I remember thinking to myself that I was missing it and was wondering what was happening. I got home in time for the replay of the broadcast that always started immediately after the live show ended. I didn't rent it but I listen on the PPV channel to what was happening but the picture would be scrambled. So I listened as I played video games. He would have already passed away by this time but I was still oblivious. I remember being shocked when I eventually found out 3 hours later than most wrestling fans. Owen Hart was my favorite. Good job. :)
Yeah, 1999 was a year of many faults for both companies. Particularly WCW!!
almost got through the whole thing without crying, without remembering. still saddens me greatly that whole incident with Owen.
Then you should skip the Raw afterwards too
@@catchcan221 Yeah. For as heartfelt as the tribute was trying to be, Martha felt it was a souless cashgrab.
Back in high school I had my own 'Top X' favorite matches written down on a journal I kept, and I remember having HHH vs. Vince from Armageddon 99 on it. It's probably been over twenty years since I last watched that match.
At this point I don't think I even want to find out if it holds up or not 😂
A 30 minute Vince McMahon match just sounds nightmarish.
The fact that they expected people to root for Vinny Mac as a babyface during the Attitude Era is wild.
@@kidz4p509more than once it's worked very well and they made him to be a real hero when he came back to take the company from steph and shane
You mean to say the fact that people expect to cheer for Dave Meltzer or Kevin Dunn as a babyface during any era is wild.
Nearly 25 years later and that Owen Hart accident still stings to this very day.
It started good but yeah after that incident everyone was out of it after Owen's tragic demise.
@@michaelaburns734 i remember watching i think dark side of owens death and listening to dlo talk about it. Dlo was so messed up after seeing owen go by. 25 years on, it still hurts to think of Owen. I understand Bret and Marthas pain
The way I have seen Martha on aew tv I think she has moved on. She is only sour on wwe now and I won't be surprised if she makes an appearance for them in the future.
Blood money
@@lutherheggs451Vince wouldn’t have continued the show if Stephanie or Shane fell 70 feet to their death in the middle of the ring,
@@catchcan221 Yes he wouldve
it helps that wrestling sucked for at least 10 years before AEW came along. hell, i don't even watch them, but anyone that actually puts on hardcore matches with actual weapons, gimmicked or not, deserves at least some damn recognition for it. even TNA was probably more worth watching for some of those years.
Crazy
1999 should be well represented in this one.
A lot of those shows that year had Vince Russo stink all over them.
I still to this day shed a tear for Owen.
Owen wouldn't have wanted the show to go on if that happened to Bret. It's horrible and sad what happened to Owen. He deserved so much better.
how do you know that
@@tightsandnewsbabesfan8749, I know because he didn't need to be rigged to a harness by some men who didn't know what they were doing!

The harness line did not malfunction .they used a harness used something for like a bag instead. It was malpractice manslaughter and settled out of court
That 6-man tag mainevent from KOTR 2000 was worth the price of PPV alone in my opinion.
Fully Loaded 2000 will always be the best
What an amazing PPV. For me, Benoit vs The Rock killed it.
20:00 you can see that the Undertaker is visibly upset.
Wrestling Bios, you are awesome sir! I drive a lot for work and your wrestling history makes the day so much better! 🤘🏻thank you 🙏🏻
I knew over the edge would be #1.
That edit from "Steve Austin gets visibly pissed off" to Jeff Jarrett's "don't piss me off!" t-shirt is *chef's kiss*
Resulting in a dangerous stunt and the loss of a life
I just watch any reliving the war PPV episode for
*Steve Mufuggin Blackman*
I ordered nearly every ppv that year leading up to over the edge. I missed that show, didn't have the money, but that night the news broke in to mention Owen had died. It was very sad. RIP Owen.
Man I love Owen's theme at the end of the video. Sounds like he's about to have a triple threat match with Paul and Bryan in Tekken 3.
Thanks again m8 these vids keep my wrestling stomach full.
Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for giving us all these unexpected uploads.
Random, but a video on the 2003 album “Be A Man” by Randy Savage would be super interesting. Maybe that can lead to a “wrestling album reviews/background” segment as well
That Album was unironicly good

That was one of the best albums of 2003 out of nowhere
Be A Man prolly in my top 10 diss tracks honestly
@@aceassn716 @OliveMule I had to come back to say that I was in a record store today, and under the staff picks was the 2003 classic “Be A Man” in vinyl! I didn’t think it was anything other than a CD, let alone still being pressed
So much content in a time where I dont have much time for TH-cam. Cant wait to finally See all those videos
Yeah that was borderline swindling behaviour. We also never got that HHH vs Austin vs Rock match.
I didn't expect Over the Edge at #1 because I thought it would be excluded. While WWE deserves to be ass blasted for continuing the show, the talent that took part does not. It's a bit tasteless both to Owen's memory and the talent that CageMatch didn't remove ratings on this one.
It was more tasteless that Vince continued the show.
And the ring would have been a potential CRIME SCENE. At the time they didn’t know if it was a murder or an accident,.
@@catchcan221 Technically, it would be invountary manslaughter.

I've no idea why, but a few weeks ago I couldn't get watching Armageddon 99 out of my head. Resubscribed to the Network and did just that. I had a great time!
Its noticeable a lot of the worst rated events are from 1999. I guess this year was seen as a step down from 1998 and 2000

Prime Russo era. Probably controversial to say, but the wrestling didn't really feel that important.
1999 was a weird year for both WWF and WCW
The problem with 1999 from a wrestling standpoint. The most important events to happened from a storyline perspective, happened in the first week. Which makes the year feel like it's hit peak already. And it's always harder to watch a show after it peak. So that's my guess on why 1999 is a weird year for wrestling.
Fingerpoke of doom, WCW rebrand, and the end of the NWO angle.
Honestly agreed. I get annoyed hearing these attitude Era D*"k Riders say "Attitude Era was prime WWE man nothing during that era was trash " when in reality there were a lot of trash in that era. Every Era in WWE has trash in them
Ironic because The Attitude Era was based on the Trash TV craze of the time lol
As soon as the somber music started to play we all knew what was coming
A friend of mine had WM XV on VHS (remember those?) and since I didn't have Sky TV, I borrowed it and watched it more times than most have seen the ppv. It is not great and really didn't seem like the show of shows.
Idk I have a soft spot for Unforgiven 98 just beacuse it and Wrestlemania 14 where some of the first wrestling VHS I ever owned. Its kinda meh but kid me was hype to see any WWF show id never seen. I feel the same about Fully Loaded 98 for the same reasons.
Ending with Owen's themes brought a little tear to my eyes, I'm not afraid to say 🖤
It was a nice touch
Good video.
I was trying to think what could be number 1 worst.
I didnt even consider Over the Edge. Such a tragedy.
Another great video as always.thank you 🍺🤘😎
I'm 2 minutes into the video, and I know EXACTLY which PPV is gonna be number one.
The Kennel From Hell commentary with Mick Foley and Kevin Kelly makes it so much better.
Oh man, number one is coming up on RTW and I know that's one that's gonna be hard to get through even this many years later 😢
You're absolutely right about looking at the Attitude era in terms of rose tinted glasses.
Because the build was so fantastic
You had to be there to truly appreciate it. The internet pretty much ruined wrestling.
You both proved the op's point
While many of us do look at the Attitude Era & Monday Night War through somewhat rose tinted glasses the WWE in some aspects have gone to far the other way nowadays

Hard to believe that was 24 and a half years ago.
