It´s a nice and fresh approach to sailing the easy way! Just for those who don´t want to struggle with ropes and booms and all that stuff! Just cruising gently along the coast or across lakes! That´s why I like it very much! The bathroom and the bed are superb for a thirty footer!
You have to take into account that there is no such thing as an uncapsizable catamaran, so when you do flip, you want something which will upright itself. A narrow catamaran with more height can do that. You can increase the angle of vanishing stability all the way to 180 degree. This specific vessel is for coastal sailing, probably not a watertight cabin. But If I would choose something for bluewater, I would choose something narrow.
A genuinely unique and appealing alternative to complicated sailing vessels. Fitted with 2 small outboards, it would make a great couples boat for cruising here in the PNW. I like it!!
Gemini can sail oceans, true. But it also requires expensive, wide slips when it stops for a while. HopYacht can fit in a monohull slip. Also, doesn't have narrow passageways with stairs to go up and down bruising yourself while underway on bays and rivers. Every boat is a compromise and has different use cases. I wouldn't be caught dead trying to cross and ocean in a HopYacht. But I'd love to chill at one on anchor for a long weekend!
I loved the drone perspective at the end, that little cat has about half the beam of the neighboring cat, and it looks like about the same beam as the monohull alongside! I'd like to see some performance/sailing reviews as well.
I don’t get why people are constantly shitting on boat like this. As someone who only has one son and the wife, this boat is perfect for where I live in southern Ontario. The only thing that would’ve made it better is if they shorten the beam by a foot and a half, and I could’ve legally towed it behind my truck as an oversize load. That’s the biggest downfall of this boat. Not its size, not it’s the lack of gas motors, not the layout, but the fact that you can’t trailer it because it’s slightly too wide.
@@pezpengy9308 not true--all trailers for the last 30 years are 106 inches so that you can put two 48 pallets inside a semi trailer--all those containers at your ports rolling around are over 8 ft--my travel trailer is 8.5 ft(102 inches) and is legal in hawaii-each state has its own laws over that for permit loads, and who cares what hawaii does--i have pulled many a load with only a permit at 10 ft--canada sucks in everything they do and would not ever go there--hawaii has gone to hell to since i lived there in the 70s and will never go back...
It's interesting to see something so different. I'd definitely prefer to have a couple of gas motors on that little guy though. At full power you get 15 miles of range
I sail on Lake Ontario there are times it kicks up even the mono haul do not go out Nice boat for inner waterways and bays calm days about 10 to 15 knots tops. Cost way too much at 300 G get a Gemini 105 for under 100G and can take it south. The money you save buys allot of docking fees
yes a 2005 year is getting up there but have owned and sailed boats that were older with no problems . Saw an add this morning for a 2004 Gemini 105 asking 88,000 USD. Even put 10 G into it ( did not look like it needed that much) you are still ahead . You could buy 3 Gemini for the same price as a Hop but can cross the Atlantic
With an overall L/B ratio of 2.7, it is much closer to the beam is that of a powercat, not a true sailing cat. Modern catamarans are more beamy with ratios of 1.6-1.9 being much more common, but in not so long ago 2.1 was the sweetspot. This cat has an overall beam of 11.29', at the sweetspot of 2.1 the beam should have been 14.3'. I imagine this boat heels over when the wind get up a bit. Remove the mast and add a super quiet 50 hp centerline outboard and this would make a fantastic canal or protected waterway cruiser or doing the Great Loop for 2 people.
Nice to something different coming out of the design process. I feel it’s a shame to put the bed there though as would make a much nicer living space, maybe a U shaped sofa area that can be a bed would be nice on a boat this size.
my guess is high 200's to low 3's. they dont price these things for what they are, they price for what they can get. even a basic sunbeam 28 will set you back 180k.
Strange design unless you're a blind insomniac. You could buy a very nice 50' mono hull with 4x the room for half the price (these are $280k range). Not sure what you really gain by this being a cat as the salon has no living space, other than the onlyfans cabin. Interesting though.
Unsafe in any weather is what it should be called. A squall is going knock that thing over in seconds and if the mast doesn't stop you its upside down.

it feels like it wants to right on that calm harbor. They should have had a widening hulls. this is asking for trouble.
That Hop was built for me ! ❤❤❤. An RV for the water 😊

This was very cool, ideal for a couple on the TN river system, maybe watts bar lake ...
Category C. Gemini is A. Nice to see thinking out of the box. Small environmental footprint

The right cat to stay in a marina and to sail occasionally, like the most are doing

Yup, that would be an ideal use case for this. I wouldn't say price is bad though, Gemini's pretty long in the teeth these days compared to this.

Awesome little boat
Even though its only 30 feet it seems awfully narrow.
That boat was so ridiculous…wow.
Me, my playlist, a big bag of gonga... I'm on my way to the key's!
Interesting design for a small cat, but with it being so narrow I question it’s ability to actually sail.
I would be surprised if it sails effectively
Seems to be a great boat
Love it
Great for a lake boat. If you stay close to shore.
take across the pacific to hawaii
Nope loop al traveler
$300,000 for a new New Hopyacht 30 or $300,000 for a 5 year old Leopard 40. No contest.
price??????
i think its lovely... but i agree that if it were trailerable it would have a much wider market. mostly because slip space is pricey.
Seems like a salt water house (pontoon) boat
My family and I plan to cross the pacific in that.

can the wind flip it over easily?
Is it self righting and what’s the hull speed?
Would be cool if it had retractable foils.
How wide is it? How many batteries? Whats cruising range? How much to buy?

Absurd… as a sailboat
Absurd as a floating studio cut the mast and you will have an expensive floating house for Sausalito

Sailing pontoon boat
The guy filming should learn the three shots. Closeup, mid shot and long shot are the only shots you need. This incessant panning makes one sea sick.
If that’s what makes you seasick. Good luck going out on a boat.
