Not having the new vst synth in Studio One Pro is disgusting. We've waited for years for a new vst, then they finally have a new one but not make it available is just wrong. Behavior like this is what made me switch from pro tools. Keep it up Presonus and I'll switch from you.
i agree, however, if they only keep some things behind the S1+ paywall, then i'm OK with that, as long as we can enjoy the rest of the DAW that we already have, as for VSTIs, there are enough free ones like vital,etc, and then you also have arturia, i still am on their ver 8, so i dont have the instruments of ver 9, however, i have the instruments i really wanted in ver 8, the instruments in ver 9 are more like hybrid ones, synth and samples merged together, a bit like the new presonus one, but if you really want such an instrument, you can layer them with kontakt (samples) and vital (synthesis) and make a complete new instrument from it if you dont know how to create an instrument in kontakt (full ver not player) then check out the tool Dennis at rigid-audio made just import your samples add knobs,sliders,and background, save your project/instrument and you're done rigid-audio.com/products_kontakt_gui_maker.html
Dude. Don't fret. That "synth" is a joke. It's a marketing enticer for newbie subscriptions. I wouldn't use it if you paid me. Get something from Arturia, U-he, Cherry audio and you'll be happier.
If Presonus believes that we don't deserve the new synth and whatever else they decide in the future, then maybe they don't deserve our money for the next paid upgrade(s). Why are we upgrading, when everything we need is already in there anyways, and they don't deserve our support. The perpetual Studio One Pro is now officially a chopped down version and we are now second class users.
This might be it for me. I’ve been with S1 since ver 2. Bought upgrades all the way to ver 5 then started the subscription. After realizing I don’t use much of the benefits, I was thinking about canceling. Now I definitely canceling. At this point it’s either logic or Ableton. Damn 🤦🏾♂️

It seems like presonus is becoming one of those companies that does anything to squeeze more 💰 out of 10:20 you. I get that it’s a business. But why the stretch. Why make an instrument only available to those under the subscription model. So spending hundreds to purchase the daw & hundreds in updates isn’t valuable to them anymore? I'm moving over to another DAW . A paywall for what is now a standard DAW feature is ridiculous. They are crapping all over their non subscriber community.
Still. No grouping plugin parameters across tracks like in pro tools and Cubase. Like for hard panned guitar sim dialing in for example. Also for atmos mixing and mastering it’s badly needed. Ya know to eq / saturate or compress all tracks “ object “ together .. Things you can’t just bus together. It’s a very simple feature…
In the end I personally feel FL Studio is the best overall investment in a DAW. My main DAW preference is between Logic Pro & Presonus on desktop. Besides, I do work on my iPad mobile periodically. But with FL STUDIO lifetime updates… I can see a hard hit on Presonus for this very reason. I believe I have version 4 of PRESONUS. But ever since I’ve noticed the little minor updates from the version introducing the dynamic EQ, I haven’t seen the worth in any upgrades since, to justify the upgrade cost. Every one music and production needs is different but for many I feel this is a huge slap in the face. Hopefully the voices of long time users will be heard and they make some consideration. But in the meantime, don’t stop the grind. Keep doing you and what’s best for you. At times greed becomes king for these companies.
With all the DAWS out there that give you better stability and much better plugins , Studio one is playing with fire ... Hopefully they will change there mind or they might lose alot of studio one users ...

I wouldn't think of it like that. I realize a lot of your money now feels like a waste, but the option to opt out is far more about enticement. a lot more data collected for each cycle of updates, and a lot more pressure on people teetering, and a lot less pressure on people who can barely afford it anymore.
I actually agree, if this is the future, Studio One is dead. Logic is my main DAW and I was hoping to love to Studio one, but sorry I 'm avoiding this move as I can see where they are going. Shit on your customers and they shit on you! Also Tunecore are known as a scam - loads on TH-cam about this. Time to sell my Presonus licenses fast!

The hybrid thing would be more interesting if it worked something like the all access pass from slate digital (special anual price committed payment month to month) and having the benefit of owning the perpetual licence
IF Presonus is going to force a subscription system then I will be moving on. I have PAID for multiple versions of Studio One Pro but will not be paying for the next version if they continue this strategy; which I am sure matters to them, not at all.
i have no problem that they put newer or specialised instrument behind the studio one + paywall, those people who pay that sub must be entitled to extra stuff as long as the main program remains perpetual with only an upgrade fee between versions (4 to 5,5 to 6,6 to 7,etc) i'm a music enthousiast, not a professional, the music i create is not for sale, its for my personal pleasure i only wanted a DAW with a seperate articulation lane (for orchestral instruments) wich FL studio doesnt have so i bought S1, but still have FL (lifetime) for modern tunes like disco, synthwave, etc
I own Apple Logic with its free updates, but I like Studio One enough to pay $150 every few years or so for the perpetual upgrade. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all that they reserve some plug ins, sample packs and a lame VST synth for the subscription, which costs $180 per year.
I can understand why some would have an issue with the new VST being behind a paywall but since I don't use any of the stock plugins outside of SampleOne, it doesn't bother me. I have all the NI and Arturia stuff anyway.
Because they are significantly behind on their virtual instrument’s and plugins compared to almost every daw, and they end up releasing a half assed one essentially behind a paywall lol
SO a non VST (whats the point if i dont own it) Integration with a Shady ass company like tunecore.....Its looking like Fender is going to work huh....
This also worries me that for S7 even if it’s great they may keep trying to lock many of the best features / additions behind the subscription. Man…so should I try to learn FL finally or go back to Cubase? I’ll keep S1 as my main but in about to start learning / using another daw just incase this is going down hill which I hope it’s not I’ve loved studio one & presonus for so many years now
Let’s see what happens when S1 V7 comes out later this year. I do hope they reconsider to show love for us longtime users, this practice is unacceptable for business, and I may make the move to another DAW if they don’t listen to the Community. Such a shame.
What happens to songs created using subscription services (i.e. PreSonus+, Waves Creative Access, etc.) if you drop the subscription and no longer have access to plugins used to create those songs?
Also new in Studio One 6.6 --> Many VST3 plugins stop working, when they work great in 6.5 and other DAWs. Naturally, PreSonus blames the plugins and users for it.
Thank you for making this. I’m pissed about not getting to use the new Vst because I was dumb enough to buy a perpetual license. You pay more, you get less. Doesn’t make sense.

NO DAMN WONDER!!!!! I have started and RESTARTED S1 over after doing the update just to find the damn instrument IS NOT INCLUDED in the update! So I pay $150.00 for an update yet have NO ACCESS to a much needed new VST instrument!!!

On the plus side with the subscription getting a perpetual license, at least you walk away with something. Maybe things in life aren't going too great so you wanna save a little bit on your monthly bills. Now instead of completely losing it you have a license. Is it great no but it's also not completely horrible as some are saying Unless they're completely switching 2 a subscription-based service.I don't know what the problem is overall

I was just about to buy a perpetual license of studio one when this came out. Good thing I can see from all the complaints in multiple channels the ways the company is taking. I gave up on the buy. Their loss is going to be much bigger than the benefits of this move.
It would be great to be able to save presets with track content (Midi, Audio) as implemented in Reaper and abelton im realy dying for this feature come o its 2024 ;) please recommend this feature to presonus
i think members get the hybrid at first and after a while it will be available for the rest. Thats how you create unique selling points for your membership. Since im a member, i will update SO and play a little... :D
I think I'm in the minority with this update. I'm paying the subscription regardless, so I don't really care if they paywall things. I prefer subscriptions over pay once licenses anyway. I want updates. In a perfect world, I'd get lifetime updates while paying once, but that's not realistic.
It’s not okay that only +members get the new plugin. I have opdatet my studio one many times from the start and pay lot of money. That’s not cool. And one more thing, the gain on the track is too small to make small adjustments;-). The gain where you can see you wave file.
The Studio One 6.6 update was rather disappointing, especially the notion that subscribers are now considered the A team, leaving the rest of us as mere spectators without any benefits as Pro users. However, that's okay; it motivated me to make a decision. I've been alternating between Cubase and Studio One for the past few years, and I haven't been particularly satisfied with either. I am a long-time Cubase user. I decided to explore Logic Pro X too. Today, I made the switch and I'm opting for Logic Pro X. It evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the early days of music production software-not necessarily in layout, but in its overall approach. I feel a sense of belonging and comfort in Logic Pro X. I have a feeling we'll become great companions.
Pity really as I changed from Logic Pro to S1 6 recently. I'm a big fan of S1 but to go subs like PT? Nup. I'll just be using S1 6 for mastering only from now on.
Cheers Ivan: I have mixed feelings about the trend towards pay walling especially after talking with an old bandmate who suggested that I consider Reason for my DAW and it is cool to see cables swaying after virtually plugging in a feature - for me it adds authenticity and a live studio feeling - but rather than upgrade Reason at the next level the company sent information about an intent to charge a nominal fee to those who had outright purchased the system.. I am aware that Presonus employees expect a regular paycheck and after the surge to buy S1 slows they must adapt to survive.. I feel my friend Richard's outrage after essentially being ambushed so Presonus is at least tabling discussions ..
Who in the world wants to upload his song straight to Tunecore… useless features.. while we are still waiting on tons of useful ones…like modulations, real bus freeze… and this emphasis on Dolby Atmos just turns me off

Not understanding all the hate for the new plan. I would not expect a new synth in a point update. I currently am on S1 Pro (not Sphere or Plus or whatever it is now). But folks on sub plans have always had access to more stuff - that's part of the premium. So when they drop v7, that's when I will get in. At that point it is a pretty good deal. 180 for the annual plan and own 7.x perpetual license. That isn't much different than current upgrade price. Small catch imho that there would be no free point updates. And for folks new to S1 this becomes a no brainer. 180bux for a perpetual license right out of the gate. The price of a daw (or anything really) is always gonna be more than some want pay. That's the risk the business takes. But let's get real here. 180 bux is not a lot of money for a product like S1. Sorry if you disagree but companies gotta make a profit if they want to stick around. And if not getting the shiny new synth with the 6.6 update is enough to make you give up on S1 as a daw then maybe it was never the right daw for you. Laughable too cuz we all know that half the folks whining about not getting Lead Architect probably already own half a dozen synths that are at least as capable. I mean, it looks interesting - in a sort of NI play series kinda way - but there are so many really great synths out there already it is hard to imagine getting excited about this.

It might not be today, but the writing is on the wall that this won’t last for the long haul. Sad, especially when I’ve had so many friends purchase s1 because of my bragging about it. Presonus seems going to make the biggest mistake in their history. Looks like they are preparing us for a complete abandonment of the perpetual model in version 7. If this happens, then I’ll have to switch to Cubase.
Whether or not people will like the new subscription model depends on what type of consumer they are. For instance, I haven't updated since version 4.5 since the upgrades weren't worth it to me. I've been considering it for the last few updates though, but hesitant to purchase it all these years later-- because I would be pretty upset if they released v7 anytime soon. This hybrid model lets me commit to both -- I now get unlimited updates (along with the jump from 4.5 to 6.6) AND I have less of a gamble if the new version comes out, since I'll get upgraded for free and also receive the perpetual license. That said, it would feel pretty slimy if they release version 7 just after the 1 year after window of revealing this plan. For someone like me who will likely buy the hybrid sub, it will feel like a deliberate decision to get me to pay for another upgrade. From the perspective of the business-- I completely understand why they would do that, but it feels underhanded if so. That's exactly why, however, many people that update more regularly will see this as a huge let down. Now they're potentially going to miss out on subscription-only content (which is clearly another attempt to get people to switch over) despite paying for every new version in full. This could upset some of their most loyal customers -- and diminish the value of the standard perpetual license business model that has been around for ages. My guess is that Presonus has crunched the numbers and figures it's better off taking a gamble on folks getting free full-version upgrades (plus perpetual license) versus those who will end up stuck in the subscription cycle for whatever reason.
producer are mostly disappointed by 6.6 i guess...tbh i dont care about S1 plugins much i wished they would work more on workflow stuff like... a browser like FL or Live with the cursor arrows preview sound and a drag and drop into empty Pattern Note/Pad with a Sampler below like in Cubase so you can make a Drum Pattern while adjusting Stuff in the Sampler below... well the little things to make Beat making more fun but i think the hype is currently the Spatial Audio Stuff... lets hope Studio One 7 will have some more interesting features for Beat makers

Man I’m a studio one user 4L but this is such a weak update. FL has been killing the game with such dope updates but I’m not switching. Hoping presonus really drops a BIG new update version soon at least catching up to all the other ones cool new features. But looks like that’s at least 6 months + away since they just dropped all of this stuff as an update.

I can understand why some would have an issue with the new VST being behind a paywall but since I don't use any of the stock plugins outside of SampleOne, it doesn't bother me. I have all the NI and Arturia stuff anyway.
Because they are significantly behind on their virtual instrument’s and plugins compared to almost every daw, and they end up releasing a half assed one essentially behind a paywall lol

This also worries me that for S7 even if it’s great they may keep trying to lock many of the best features / additions behind the subscription. Man…so should I try to learn FL finally or go back to Cubase? I’ll keep S1 as my main but in about to start learning / using another daw just incase this is going down hill which I hope it’s not I’ve loved studio one & presonus for so many years now

Let’s see what happens when S1 V7 comes out later this year. I do hope they reconsider to show love for us longtime users, this practice is unacceptable for business, and I may make the move to another DAW if they don’t listen to the Community. Such a shame.

I dunno about you but ATMOS was huge. SO is now one of only a few DAWs that has it. It's finally caught up to the big boys in cinematic production.
What happens to songs created using subscription services (i.e. PreSonus+, Waves Creative Access, etc.) if you drop the subscription and no longer have access to plugins used to create those songs?
Also new in Studio One 6.6 --> Many VST3 plugins stop working, when they work great in 6.5 and other DAWs. Naturally, PreSonus blames the plugins and users for it.
Thank you for making this. I’m pissed about not getting to use the new Vst because I was dumb enough to buy a perpetual license. You pay more, you get less. Doesn’t make sense.

NO DAMN WONDER!!!!! I have started and RESTARTED S1 over after doing the update just to find the damn instrument IS NOT INCLUDED in the update! So I pay $150.00 for an update yet have NO ACCESS to a much needed new VST instrument!!!
Why much needed? The most producers won’t use the stock plugins/instruments? Use third party stuff like NI Komplete or analog lab? There is so much awesome stuff out there!
On the plus side with the subscription getting a perpetual license, at least you walk away with something. Maybe things in life aren't going too great so you wanna save a little bit on your monthly bills. Now instead of completely losing it you have a license. Is it great no but it's also not completely horrible as some are saying Unless they're completely switching 2 a subscription-based service.I don't know what the problem is overall

Presonus need to sort themselves out. I love studio one but im not against changing DAW for a one that cares for their customers needs.
I was just about to buy a perpetual license of studio one when this came out. Good thing I can see from all the complaints in multiple channels the ways the company is taking. I gave up on the buy. Their loss is going to be much bigger than the benefits of this move.
It would be great to be able to save presets with track content (Midi, Audio) as implemented in Reaper and abelton im realy dying for this feature come o its 2024 ;) please recommend this feature to presonus

i think members get the hybrid at first and after a while it will be available for the rest. Thats how you create unique selling points for your membership. Since im a member, i will update SO and play a little... :D

I think I'm in the minority with this update. I'm paying the subscription regardless, so I don't really care if they paywall things. I prefer subscriptions over pay once licenses anyway. I want updates. In a perfect world, I'd get lifetime updates while paying once, but that's not realistic.

It’s not okay that only +members get the new plugin. I have opdatet my studio one many times from the start and pay lot of money. That’s not cool. And one more thing, the gain on the track is too small to make small adjustments;-). The gain where you can see you wave file.
The Studio One 6.6 update was rather disappointing, especially the notion that subscribers are now considered the A team, leaving the rest of us as mere spectators without any benefits as Pro users. However, that's okay; it motivated me to make a decision. I've been alternating between Cubase and Studio One for the past few years, and I haven't been particularly satisfied with either. I am a long-time Cubase user. I decided to explore Logic Pro X too. Today, I made the switch and I'm opting for Logic Pro X. It evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the early days of music production software-not necessarily in layout, but in its overall approach. I feel a sense of belonging and comfort in Logic Pro X. I have a feeling we'll become great companions.
Pity really as I changed from Logic Pro to S1 6 recently. I'm a big fan of S1 but to go subs like PT? Nup. I'll just be using S1 6 for mastering only from now on.
Cheers Ivan: I have mixed feelings about the trend towards pay walling especially after talking with an old bandmate who suggested that I consider Reason for my DAW and it is cool to see cables swaying after virtually plugging in a feature - for me it adds authenticity and a live studio feeling - but rather than upgrade Reason at the next level the company sent information about an intent to charge a nominal fee to those who had outright purchased the system.. I am aware that Presonus employees expect a regular paycheck and after the surge to buy S1 slows they must adapt to survive.. I feel my friend Richard's outrage after essentially being ambushed so Presonus is at least tabling discussions ..
Who in the world wants to upload his song straight to Tunecore… useless features.. while we are still waiting on tons of useful ones…like modulations, real bus freeze… and this emphasis on Dolby Atmos just turns me off

I got you. On the console window click the wrench icon on the top left and under the “Grouping” category uncheck “Keep Bus Channels to the Right”.

Not understanding all the hate for the new plan. I would not expect a new synth in a point update. I currently am on S1 Pro (not Sphere or Plus or whatever it is now). But folks on sub plans have always had access to more stuff - that's part of the premium. So when they drop v7, that's when I will get in. At that point it is a pretty good deal. 180 for the annual plan and own 7.x perpetual license. That isn't much different than current upgrade price. Small catch imho that there would be no free point updates. And for folks new to S1 this becomes a no brainer. 180bux for a perpetual license right out of the gate.
The price of a daw (or anything really) is always gonna be more than some want pay. That's the risk the business takes. But let's get real here. 180 bux is not a lot of money for a product like S1. Sorry if you disagree but companies gotta make a profit if they want to stick around. And if not getting the shiny new synth with the 6.6 update is enough to make you give up on S1 as a daw then maybe it was never the right daw for you. Laughable too cuz we all know that half the folks whining about not getting Lead Architect probably already own half a dozen synths that are at least as capable. I mean, it looks interesting - in a sort of NI play series kinda way - but there are so many really great synths out there already it is hard to imagine getting excited about this.

The tiered synth upgrade with the mediocre S1 6 features have made me stray. It’s PR nightmare that they need to fix or they will find out.
It’s kinda like finding out something about your girlfriend, or boyfriend that you know you’re gonna have to break up with them over. It might not be today, but the writing is on the wall that this won’t last for the long haul. Sad, especially when I’ve had so many friends purchase s1 because of my bragging about it. I’ve already begun looking into the alternatives. 🎹♥️😒
This is horrible news. Trust me, Studio One is causing their own demise with this greedy model. I'm switching ASAP!!!!!! Ableton is looking pretty sweet right now.

Presonus seems going to make the biggest mistake in their history. Looks like they are preparing us for a complete abandonment of the perpetual model in version 7. If this happens, then I’ll have to switch to Cubase.

Whether or not people will like the new subscription model depends on what type of consumer they are.
For instance, I haven't updated since version 4.5 since the upgrades weren't worth it to me. I've been considering it for the last few updates though, but hesitant to purchase it all these years later-- because I would be pretty upset if they released v7 anytime soon. This hybrid model lets me commit to both -- I now get unlimited updates (along with the jump from 4.5 to 6.6) AND I have less of a gamble if the new version comes out, since I'll get upgraded for free and also receive the perpetual license.
That said, it would feel pretty slimy if they release version 7 just after the 1 year after window of revealing this plan. For someone like me who will likely buy the hybrid sub, it will feel like a deliberate decision to get me to pay for another upgrade. From the perspective of the business-- I completely understand why they would do that, but it feels underhanded if so.
That's exactly why, however, many people that update more regularly will see this as a huge let down. Now they're potentially going to miss out on subscription-only content (which is clearly another attempt to get people to switch over) despite paying for every new version in full. This could upset some of their most loyal customers -- and diminish the value of the standard perpetual license business model that has been around for ages.
My guess is that Presonus has crunched the numbers and figures it's better off taking a gamble on folks getting free full-version upgrades (plus perpetual license) versus those who will end up stuck in the subscription cycle for whatever reason.

a browser like FL or Live with the cursor arrows preview sound and a drag and drop into empty Pattern Note/Pad
with a Sampler below like in Cubase so you can make a Drum Pattern while adjusting Stuff in the Sampler below...

Man I’m a studio one user 4L but this is such a weak update. FL has been killing the game with such dope updates but I’m not switching. Hoping presonus really drops a BIG new update version soon at least catching up to all the other ones cool new features. But looks like that’s at least 6 months + away since they just dropped all of this stuff as an update.
And I came from Cubase in 2014 or so. I might just go checkout the newest Cubase & learn FL tbh. But I really hope we’re not losing Studio One / presonus
