      You'll love it. Just keep that chain oiled and the oil changed and you should have pretty good luck.

      I'll be doing my first oil change in a couple months once it warms up a bit. I've found a few tips on chain cleaning/lubing, but do you have any preferred method?

    • @TheWizechatmgr
      @TheWizechatmgr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either get yourself a rear stand or a piece of 2x4 to hold the rear off the ground, put it in neutral.
      Then throw a file folder or news paper over the swing arm. There are various types of spray. I liked the old style teflon chain-saver - the new stuff is too oily and frankly I can't recommend it. You can also use gear oil but it tends to make a mess. I happen to have an oiler installed so I just check it every so often. I'm only on my 2nd chain and have over 30k miles on it I believe (haven't been able to ride since late October due to an wreck/injury)

    Thanks, I plan on doing another as this really didn't accomplish what I had set out to accomplish. Ended up being good info though.
    8mm socket required for the sprocket cover - as always - use 6 point sockets

    @TheWizechatmgr  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Glad to hear it.
    I'll be doing another on replacing the front fairing due to a nice wind gust that threw the bike on the ground...

    According to the factory manual once a year or 7500 miles, whichever occurs first.
    Personally, I wouldn't do it any less often than ever 2000 miles. I use Rotella T6 - 5w40 (full synthetic)
    I use the OEM filter from Kawasaki.

    If you have the first gen 650r the drain plugs at the bottom of the pan, oil filters in the same location and there's actually a little sticker with how many ltrs of oil to put in the engine right by the sight glass.

  • @TheWizechatmgr

    Spools? Makes it easier to get a bike on and off a stand. Basically the stand slips under them and it makes it easier to work on.

    well i guess your going to have to do the oil change video all the way through. my bike is in storage for the long winter. and im not using stock filters either. i like the welded nut filters.

    • @TheWizechatmgr
      @TheWizechatmgr  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer not to have my nuts welded, crushed or otherwise molested.
      I hope you're still with us. If you aren't it would be nice if someone replied back with what happened.

    Hi. The videos you have uploaded were very informative. I just bought a 2012 Kawasaki 400R. Is it the same procedure for me to change the oil and oil filter? I have only done 1400km. Could you also let me know the best oil and oil filter to be used and the required frequency for oil change. thanks in advance. I was looking for a service manual but I could not find any...

    I love your vid dude,I am an American Expat living in Philippines and have a '12 Ninja 650.I love your terminology of everything,maybe is bcause I 've been here for more than 5 years but it is what it is...this is my thing...we can use any oil filter we want,after all they are made to stop metal shavings from recirculating back into the oil system...here,I use a O/filter made for the Honda Civic(SouthEast version)and works all the time,it is made in Japan by VIC,#806,oil?...for me is full Synthetic which I change around 10 kilometers or so...what I do is check the fluidity of the oil every 1000 kilometers,if is sticky a bit I know is time to change but,sometimes is b4 that,depending on how hot it was the month b4 or how many kms I rode b4...is all depending but I assure you..oil has nowdays a longer life that our Fathers experienced in their lifetime....good job on your vids,am a subscriber and loving it.b safe man!.

      Assuming you're in Florida and that the sunpass is your equivalent of the EZ-Pass mine is right near the top of the windscreen/windshield. Mine has always read successfully.

    First of all... We all don't have professional cameras to make theater like videos... To that persons comment. Thank you very much it is very helpful. If you have a ninja 650 you pretty much understand and see what's going on. I'll be attempting my first oil change soon. Just installed a two brothers exhaust yesterday so I feel confident I can do the oil next. Thank you again for this video. Quick question though. Have you ever felt a of heat come from the front or near the oil check point window area (tried my best to explain where). I've had an R6 in the past and don't recall riding a bike so hot. Any tips or thoughts on what may be causing the heat. Happens day or night. I just got it used with 13k a month ago. Everything was original. Any other tips on what to take care of at the 13k mark. Thank you appreciate any tips and responses. Thank you.

    • @TheWizechatmgr
      @TheWizechatmgr  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      9Twizted Glad you understand and like it. The irony is I DO own a great camera now, but I didn't feel that there was anyone stupid enough out there to not be able to get the jist of it so I didn't re-shoot the video. Most of the haters are usually not bike owners...
      Odds are you're getting the heat off the radiator. I can feel it on the hottest of days as it cuts in and out. With the fan on or off you're likely to feel it while moving. It gets brutal when ambient hits 95 F+
      Stay on top of that chain maint or get an oiler and still stay on top of it. My chain started having issues at about the 14k mark but it wasn't kept as pristine as I would have liked. My new chain now has 11k on it (replaced July 2014)

    When you change the oil, do you have to change the oil filter?

  • @_H.Alex._
    @_H.Alex._ ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I changed my 640/2012 Ninja Oil , and I added 1 and a half quart of oil that’s what auto zone told me after I did that . I started to have issues when I warmed up my bike it seemed to have lost power when I rev it it stops at 8 and sounds awful I’m scared I messed my bike up

    will a 2011 650 oil filter fit on a 2011 ninja 400? I can't find info anywhere

      @TheWizechatmgr  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I don't have a listing for the 400 (was checking bikebandit)
      My suggestion would be to try asking on the www.riderforums.com site. You will find many of us on there that make these videos, and there is a possibility that someone with a 400 will be on there too!
