Thanks Steve! Very timely. I meet virtually with my Toastmaster’s group on Friday mornings. Today was our third virtual meeting using Zoom. I uploaded some video from a recent cruise to Canva into a social media template. Then, I exported it to Zoom. I spent the downtime during our meeting showing videos of my trip (synchronized swimmers, dune buggy rides, and zipline adventures) by changing my green screen background. It was fun!
If you do distance teaching live over zoom, you can match your background to what you are talking about. I.e. if you are teaching history and are talking about WW1 you can have a picture from the war as your backdrop. It just gives a little spice to your teaching. Thank you for the instructions for using the green screen with a virtual background. I had used your technique for the Zoom video conference, which was hosted by the law firm I work for. Since most of us work from home because of the state-mandated lockdown during this 2020 pandemic, I had thought of selecting one of the pictures. Which I had personally taken using my digital camera. My colleagues had only their own unaltered room settings in the background, while mine was a picture of colorful boats, which were docked at the National Harbor. Again, thank you!

The eye drop tool was such a useful addition! Will definitely bring it to my fellow teachers' attention as one keeps joking about taping green paper to everyone's whiteboard. Also, love the fact that you've done your video as personal as possible through this medium. Virtual background seems to only be available in Windows and Apple operating systems. I do not see it in the Chrome extension on my Chromebook nor in the Android tablet app.

Do you mean the ones under his screen? I read too that Zoom comes with a couple but I don't have any either. You just have to upload whatever you want to use.
As an FYI, if you're using an older Mac such as my 2014 version, the virtual background feature doesn't work. You need an i7 processor. A regular green screen will work, but the virtual green screen will not.

Here's the message I received from Zoom when attempting to use the virtual green screen on my 2014 MacBook Pro: "To use virtual background without a green screen, your Mac OS version needs to be 10.13 or higher and, your processor must be an Intel Core i5 with a quad-core or better." I'm running OS version 10.14.06 so that requirement is met. I said earlier you needed an i7, but in rechecking, the message now claims an i5 with quad-core will work. Either my memory (my brain, not the computer) was faulty or they changed the message. In any case, I have an i5, but the error message shows up nevertheless. Your previous OS version must have been a 10.12.xx or earlier so after updating the OS you're now able to use the virtual green screen. I'm holding off updating to Catalina pending an update to an application I use that isn't working properly under Catalina.

We have been using zoom since this started. I am surprised with how good the green screen looks. Funny to see that you have the same problems with your dog.
That’s great - my son just today got me going on Zoom and I did try out the background thing. There was a bit of wonky things going on so it is nice to learn my blue screen will take all that away. I am using it on my iPad and found by also connecting with the iPhone there was a two camera view. This blue screen works so well I would like to use it for videos if I only knew how to do screen capture with my iPad.

Hi Steve, While learning to ZOOM and simultaneously cleaning-up my email inbox, both via your videos, I hit a bump in the road. According to the Zoom App, my computer "doesn't meet the minimum requirements to use this feature without a green screen." Huh?

Is there a simple teleprompter app that will allow you to autoscroll your script at eye level without using a lot of external gadgetry? Apple has a Presentation mode for iPads and phones in its Pages app, but not for Mac desktop computers.

Have you selected the green screen in the video window as I showed him the the demo here? I suspect that zoom is not choosing your green screen as its primary colour and if you select the colour it’s work
@@dottotech I did, but my image keeps blurry. Read the guidelines to match the requirements. Tried a Logitech cam (as you say, the inbuilt sucks), yet it's not working. Have an ASUS i5. It should work. Maybe some silly detail to consider. Thanks for your feedback!

If you were talking about within the meeting you can stream it from your desktop as a shared file, but be sure to turn on computer audio in your screen share mode

Have you made a video describing how to eliminate or at least reduce latency (lag) in the audio? Many of us who have tried to harmonize singing or playing instruments together have found it almost unusable because of the lag. Not talking about echo. We know how to solve that (earphones). Thanx!

I got the virtual background and I don't have a paid subscription. But I'm still working on the green screen issue....🤔. I guess I'll hafto buy one😒

Yes Robert, it is processor intensive, so if you don't have the hardware to do the job it will not let you try.

The virtual background will work without a green screen inf your computer is powerful enoiugh, Zoom will give you the option if it is available

You can add any Background you want with a Green Screen, so just make it look like yo want in an app like Canva,

At 6:01, your video shows you can add image or add video. Mine does not show I can add a video. What do I need to do to add video?

Love the way you do it!! easy and clear.. and the best is that is not a just prepared video, is a naturally done.. laugh when you pop up the green screen and with the dog (I have 5.. so I understand what it means when they are around..). thanks for the info
