I had 2 360 one X's fail (both replaced under warranty) changed to a 360 one R and already had one of my units has failed, I was told it had got damaged or dirty when not in use (in tank bag) Not great for durability. Swapped to a GoPro max and much prefer it, all in one waterproof unit, in GoPro mode it only shoots 1080P but also have the hero 7, but its much more user friendly and the editing software is better. and the stabilisation is unbelievable. I like the idea, but like an slr camera when travelling its hard to keep all those lenses clean. Great vid as usual, keep up the good work

@@LambChopRides The bracket keeps everything squashed together and the water out of the connections... here is a copy/paste from the website: - Insta360 ONE R is waterproof to 5 meters when built. That means all components are locked together and ONE R is secured in the Mounting Bracket.
They released the the OneR a couple weeks after I ordered my One X😢 The 1"sensor is very compelling. It is nice that you can record and charge at the same time but you lose the ability to run an external mic on the R when running an external battery
I went for the one R - few downsides their app for extra time editing, buttons not easy to press with gloves on, love the capability to swap out modules, love the qaulity colour is great without colour grading, looking forward to see what’s next what new modules updates to firmware etc. Looking forward to getting the remote maybe I won’t have buttons issue then 😃
Great informative vid chops,but so many people keep saying it's pants and the after care is awful ,that's why I've not purchased one yet .I do like the r as it's versatile if you only want one camera .
Oh the two annoying things are that sound turning on and off, you can cancel that out - also the sad card door is a bad design. But the camera is a game changer.
I’m surprised Sony haven’t joined the band wagon of 360* action cams. For the age of the FDR-X3000 it punches above its weight and still outperforms even the latest GoPro in many aspects. It’s optical stabilisation is superior to anything currently on the market and it has an inbuilt 3.5mm socket for an external mic. Chops, you mentioned the mic you used with the One R was too loud. Yet, the bike was almost completely inaudible. I heard it only very briefly between one or two of your sentences. Keen to listen to a recording with a better mic. At this point I’m still in favour of the One X for my purposes, as I’m not looking to replace the Sony, only to add a 360* point of view to my footage. Good review, Chops! Thank you 🙏🏻

Fantastic Chops really like the look of the 360, I have had my flys on one for a little while now, Sorry that’s EYES (Them flys get everywhere). Great insight on them both. Next test for the new 360 will be chucking it of the H2 in a comparison test. 😂 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
If the One X was waterproof, I think it'd win hands down as a 360 camera against the One R and the GoPro Max, but an "action camera" that is not waterproof, is not an "action camera"! I wonder if I could vinyl wrap my One X it'd probs be my 100% go to 360 camera.... although the GoPro Max has the Hero mode which is bloomin amaze-balls! :D
Don’t like usb-c on my MacBook. Ports go a bit loose after a while and moving the laptop drops the connection to the ultra wide monitor. Hope that doesn’t happen with the One R. Otherwise looks like an awesome camera. GoPro need the competition to sharpen up!
No dont think it crackled main problem was levels with that mic just off the scale loud like the gain was high. I had to reduce the volume of the clip, probably clipping is what you could hear. I need to experiment with other mics
Yeah they do repairs but what with the other damage... think its beyond spending money on. Going to try and fix the scratches. Bought some watch repair stuff, try and fill and polish
Sadly the OneR doesn't survive a bloody idiot borrowing the camera from you then chucking it in the side pocket of a tail pack that they put directly behind the high-level exhaust of a KTM. John
Hi Chops, what way do you mount the r. i've an x and it gives some amazing video but using its screw mount you always have a fear that it will snap off at speed. I was thinking of upgrading to the r. Do you think that it could also replace a gopro as a helmet cam
I bought the one r thinking it could be used as a normal action cam but... The audio is crap, the battery life is crap and you can't run both a mic and power cable, but they might now do the larger battery. The camera also needs to be used with a smartphone, like literally you have to activate it first time or you can't use it. This is fine if you have an apple product but for android I had to wait two weeks for an update just to be able to test the camera. After activation you can use it without a phone but all the updates and extra settings will be through the app. The non 360 camera also doesn't have as many nice features as say a gopro. Also the customer service is kinda meh. Overall if you want a 360 camera and also an ok normal action cam go for it but I will be either selling mine and getting a gopro or just selling the module getting the 360 module and then getting a gopro for the normal action cam. Sorry long comment
It uses a cage bit like the hero 7, I think it could be used as a vlog camera but would need to play around with mics. Ive not tried to use it as my helmet camera as thats not what I need it for

Other question , I see you in the videos talk with your buddy with some kind communication system like Cardo Freecom or something , but how do you also record your audio talking in the video? Do you have the cardo connected to 1 of your camera`s? or you have also an external mic in your helmet for the camera audio?
I really wanted to get the One R but because of local supermarket had the One X in discount (just shy of 300€) I decided to go with that. Thought that it's a reasonable price for entry 360-camera .

I went back to my Sony mic that I've had for over three years, some are just to good for helmet conditions. The Sony seems perfect if it's placed right, mine is in my cheek pad, I've now moved it further in as it still did not like it when I spoke quite loud, need to get another video done to test it again. Also different devices pick up at different db levels, so no doubt you can improve it with more testing.
I like the design and tech of the insta 360r but i will wait a bit i think we will see some new crazy stuff in the market soon👍 thanks for this great video mate wish you a nice weekend

When you transfer the 3D footage to your laptop, does it immediately run as the 3D video or do you need to manually edit it to do it? Your sincerely PC. haven't a clue how to use them

Perfect timing!! Its about finding a good placement for the mic and using a reasonable good mic. If you check description I list my Sony mic there. But yes external mic placed in the cheek pad of the helemt
A problem I see with the 1R is if it falls off you will be looking for many parts... do they do a rugged case to hold it all together and protect from damage?

You sure as that case is only a surround cant see it making any difference to how waterproof the camera is?

Yes the reason being the audio was so loud I had to reduce it to 10% of its original volume. So all bike sound was lost 👍

I use Sony Vegas but you need the Insta software to edit the 360 footage, you can use Adobe Premier I believe..

I use Ram mount clamps mainly Joakim, you can use sticky mounts but sometimes they fail as you saw haha

I thought the stabilisation was a bit blurry when you were shaking your head. Seemed ok on the off road section.
Yeah I did really shake my head around, plus think in low light it not so good.. Out in the open much better
