Going from the tiny 'portholes' on the X1 and X2 to the glorious full-size screens of the 3 and 4 would be a real game changer for me. The luxury of actually being able to see menus and setting's without squinting through my varifocals makes an upgrade very temping.

Thanks for the video! X2 owner here (bought it after watching your videos as well) , think I'll skip for upgrade for now. Mostly using my X2 for family videos re-framed in 1080 and while the footage could be better quality, still I don't think it's worth to upgrade yet considering the cost.
After watching about a million comparison videos, while clearly the X4 has much to recommend it compared to the X3, the much trumpeted resolution increase makes very little difference in real world use. Often I would pick the wrong camera if I didn't check the caption, although the better colour and dynamic range of the X4 is usually the giveaway. So... I am still on the fence. But thanks for these additional comparisons anyway.
Excellent talk, as we can cover it all, be overkill: watch vids, read comments, decide the model and sleep on it. I lean to one because the win 11 lenova Yoga 7I , is what will decide when I trial mine if I go for one thanks for the advice and support FISH
It's always good to consider an upgrade for better quality. It's a significant upgrade and it will cost you too: if you're happy with your twin edition One R, make sure you do plenty of research before spending more than you need.
I have the One X that was released in 2018 and just upgraded to the X4 and I’m really disappointed. If you’re not interested in the gimmicks and compare the footage from the 2 side by side I can see very little difference. I thought the leap would be way bigger.
It's always tough when an upgrade doesn't meet expectations. I've had all the ONE X cameras. i do think this is significantly improved from the original - but i think the improvements from the X3 are really about what you intend to use the camera for. There is something special about the ONE X - and it is significantly smaller - which is great. But I do think the X4 is a significant upgrade. Interesting and super informative for the community that you didn't though. Thanks!

I am a newbie to the insta 360 ecosystem, but I am quite tech savvy and will need premium features and low light usage for it, so I am going to go with the X4 based on your video!
I remain confused. I had an X1 and liked it but water got in. I bought an R1 but it turns itself off when shaken! X2 and above are waterproof and I prefer the form factor. I wonder if the bigger screens on X3, X4 may crack. I can get lens covers from aliexpress for X2. I would need a new computer to process 8k so I'd probably be shooting in 5.6k or lower with whatever camera I get. They are currently 250USD 400USD and 500USD. Me mode is nice but I can do that pretty quick in post. I don't use slomo. I wonder which camera works for the person with a slow computer. I wonder how much better the low resolution video in the X3 and X4 is compared to the X2. Often the quality largely remains even in lower resolutions.

I feel like you are using the Go 3 and Ace Pro more than the X3 in your videos. Can you explain why? I am going on a big trip with my wife and can't decide which camera to buy.
That’s observant of you. I think that’s changed as the cameras have evolved and my shooting workflow has changed too. I prefer shooting in formats now where I can down load straight from the camera to my iPad, without any further time and effort processing. I can do this with 2.7K on the GO3 and 4K on the Ace Pro. But before the Go series came along, if you look in my catalogue, it’s all ONE X and X2 vlogs. I’ll have more videos relating to this soon, including the last in my Japan series in about 4 episodes.
Sarb, great video!! Currently the owner of an X2 with noticable scratches on both lenses, so I'm hoping to upgrade this year if my budget allows. I mainly make videos for myself and to share with friends and family via TH-cam. Though the 8k does sound incredible, I'm wondering where 8k can truly be disayed/enjoyed. Does YT even allow viewing in such high resolution? What about most smartphones/tablets that many people use to primarily view videos these days? I really appreciate the comparisons you've made which greatly helps give guidance to us trying to decide which direction to go. Thanks in advance for your feedback!! 😃
So 8K refers to the whole sphere. Reframed to flat it will be about 2.7K. For 5.7k spherical footage eg X3, expect about 1080p-like resolution. The difference between X3 and X2 with be design improvements, like massive screen, UI and special effects, and image quality for video and photos. Hope that helps! And thanks :)
I’d say neither from my results. Way too many artifacts, color, banding, clarity, issues, etc.. And let’s not even get into the fact that you can’t export spherical 360 video out from the editing suite. Only flattened. No one cares about just exporting to MP4 non-edited you’re supposed to be able to edit 360 and export 360 with music, etc. and you cannot do this in their app. You have to go through the difficult process process of using resolve or Premier.
