- You hear a lot about fixed gear Mecca's like San Francisco, New York City, and Portland, but you don't really hear about the fixed gear scene in Chicago. I hosted a group fixed gear ride in Chicago on a Wednesday night. About sixty riders showed up. It's next level. Between the energy of riding in the dense city; vastly different types of riding from flowing through gridlock, to forested gravel trails that go on forever, to pristine rides on the water; to the passionate fixie fam that still shows up for a freezing ride all against a gnarly headwind, Chicago has thoroughly convinced me that I need to move there. Here's my ride with the Chicago fixie fam.

Dude Chicago has an amazing fixed bike gear scene and the whole city is amazing to bike through. I would ride every day and explore all around and the Monday night rides, and bike lanes make everywhere fun to go. Definitely a great town to move to and I hope you do

The Chicago scene is small, but growing, and it is real. I love it. I only recently started going to alleycats, but have been riding fixed since I was a teenager and have only met wonderful people.
How small are we're talking? I mean NYC is certainly on another level than any other city in the US (and probably worldwide) but what other cities in the US have a bigger scene than Chicago?
It’s always been around I felt like 2014-2018 were the years I seen more fixie riders but people started growing up and stopped riding and now it’s starting to grow again

Remember getting my first fixed gear bks of this guy, I was 13-14 and had a great time till I was 18 and bought my motorcycle, I must say I still look at my aluminium, brakeless, carbon seat bicycle as a piece of art in the garage now, defo need to hang it up in my bedroom.

@@WBJepsen fixed. I put a 6 bolt cog on the disc mount of a 26 freehub body wheel. Replaced the qr skewer with a regular axle. Works a treat.

I definitely miss riding that LSD (Lake Shore Drive) route on a daily basis when I was in the south side (Hyde Park-University of Chicago) to Evanston-Northwestern University.
