Ying Yang. Life's all about optimism and this guy knows what's up. Chicago's mass constantly complains about it's terrible traffic and it's high stress of always being rushed, but this man flipped that negative mindset to a beautiful thing. Got to give the guy kudos. Wished the majority of the world would have more of this kind of imaginative positivism in their mindsets than fill it with negative basic outlooks. Anyways, killed it again with this one RedB
This is an example of what NOT to do while biking; if anything, this guy inconvenienced traffic and not only endangered his own life but the life of everyday pedestrians.
Yeah, biking around all day and drinking red bull is probably terrible for your heart and dehydrates. Kind of like how Sprite tries to make basketball commercial, but you bring a 20oz to a bball court and you will get gas cramps and possibly puke.
+Jack Ruby Yeah right! I respect Red Bull for all there sports stuff like X-Fighters and Soap Box, but there product is SO bad for you!! Innit like 18 tea spoons of sugar in a can of Red Bull? Atleast it ain't pint's like Monster.
as a cyclist myself, i think it's fine to only do rolling stops at red lights as long as you don't disturb traffic. But dude, you're just being obnoxious.
I agree. I find nothing wrong with running a red if there is no traffic and it's done safely but blowing through traffic like he does is what makes people hate cyclists.
He's obnoxious and bloody slow on the straights, if I knew Chicago I'm pretty sure I good easily beat him. And does anybody know why he likes carressing busses?
Thats what i always think when i watch these videos. If you make cars or pedestrians to slow down or even stop to let you pass you failed, you dont show any skill by doing so, if the car doesnt want to stop he will just hit you so you are asking every time you cross a red light please dont hit me, its very stupid. You need to be like invisible for the traffic, go where you wanna go but dont make anyone to change their course because of you.
Jacob Sever He's not from Chicago. notice he has no bruises from hanging on peoples vehicles. I doust one of these guys with hot coffee and he called the cops on me.......... he was arrested. ;) Later on I sued the messenger service, turns out it was caught on a bank camera. worked out well for me.
I am not a bike messenger but cycling single speed 6 years now in SF.its my commute in the city. Ones you get on the bike and start riding it with almost no rules, it's stupid but also great happiness, adrenaline-driven . Especially listening to SLAYER .
Making me miss banging around Chicago on all forms of wheels. City really does have a rhythm be it on a bike, in a car or on your own two feet. Pick the right route and time and you can fly across Gotham. Now I live in Munich and while it's a biker's city too it doesn't have the same heartbeat!
NIco, this song is about NY, not Chicago, and a taxi driver, not a messenger, but somehow the chorus came to mind right away when I listened to your narrative about the rhythm of the traffic & city deciding the speed of your delivery. Thanks for the vid. Search you Tube for "last fare of the day"
This video released about the same time I became a courier. 9 years later, I didn't think I'd still be a courier here in Chicago. I recognize every single location in this video, many of the areas look so different now, especially Wrigley, a lot more traffic now too. Willis to Wrigley, I bet I can do it in less than 15 minutes
This is the exact reason why no one really likes cyclists. Running reds and rushing through pedestrians are the two big no nos. As a biker, running reds is only ok if traffic is slow or non-existent
Everyone that's saying this guy should obey all traffic laws should get a job as a bike messenger and follow all traffic laws. Do this for a month and tell us if you still have a place to stay
So just because he does this he is exempt from traffic laws. I hope one of these days he runs a red light and a 50 foot big rig flattens his ass and the cyclist will be completely at fault.
Exactly dude; they would starve to death! Also, some of the ones that are against fixies are just retarded people who wish they could drive as well as Nico does, and avoid all that traffic that gives drivers many headaches.
Exactly... Cycling and messaging are different... It's a completely different beast... It's annoying when other people try to turn something harmless into an issue..
I've been working as a bike coureer for nearly a year in Germany and nobody here intends to break any rules. Being five minutes earlier is just not worth the risk to be unable to work due to injuries. As a consequence, we get paid per hour and are instructed to ride safe and reliable. People who commute by bike are the real Idiots here. They drive like they've never heard about traffic rules. The Messangers I've met are pretty respectful riders though.
I'm going to start running red lights in my car and when people get upset I'll just tell them "I'm a free spirit". Also I'll be expecting my Red Bull sponsorship soon.
Love the idea, but he is going against everything the cyclist community is trying to accomplish (share the road programs) by not respecting red lights, stop signs, and pedestrians.
***** Free spirit until the day he gets picked up by a car while he is running a red light. I bet you he is going to blame the car for not yielding to the biker. Traffic rules apply to all using the road. Bikes have the advantage of filtering to the front of the line, but not immunity against the rules. By being a "free spirit" as you say, he is adding reasons for car drivers to keep on disliking bikers and not allowing us to ride safely.
who says he wants/has to be part of the cyclist 'community', maybe he's his own person and would rather do his own thing. Fuck the haters and fuck you boring-ass people!
Red Bull wouldn't touched this with a 30 foot pole if he rode around like some yuppie commuter trying to repopulate the cities after their parents' urban flight in the 70s-90s.
if you want us to slow down or whatever type of bullshit then theres 2 options, either have people give respect if they want it in return, OR you can get fast and catch us yourself. until then we will mash and mash through all lights and signs. sick and tired of finding myself doing the legally correct thing and almost getting hit
I worked as a courier for 3 years for uber on/off while in school and 10 years cycling on the roads in Toronto. I can tell you right now, I have never been in 1 accident but seen many others get into ones. Number 1 reason was cause they were going through lights or doing tight turns near fast cars. Honestly, any young person just cause you see these videos doesn't mean you're invincible to reality. Be careful and stay safe when cycling in cities.
Great race! Lightspeed 30 yrs ago In NYC I had a matsuri trac bike stolen ,1 yr later dude was selling "gold matsuri trac bike with red pon stripe" I grabbed a billyclub hopped a cab and rode "my bike" home 2 weeks later it got.nabbed again Wasnt meant to Be Greay video , more please! When I had a run from wall st to harlem I took my bike on the subway ,7 minutes express That was winter it was raining I wore a wetsuit for surfing Never got cold!
How many fuckin laws did this biker break? Like holy shit. Just cause you ride a bicycle doesn't mean you can do whatever the fuck you want in the street.
Yeah so cool, a hipster w/ a fixie!... But why does he have to ride like he was the only one in the town, ignoring all the rules, and going so close to cars, buses and pedestrians? This kind of people make accidents happen.
@Donald Trump A little history for ya. In the early 1900s the entire city was raised approx 4 feet to build it's sewers. And the elevation I'm talking about is near South loop, the hills over there near downtown are about a 7-10 ft hieght increase. Real struggling for bikers like me trying to get to the trail near Buckingham fountain.
Cyclist guy in this Red Bull video - FANTASY. Angry taxi driver or just any other insane &/or careless car driver hit you after few sec. of ride in this busy traffic (maybe 'just' with a car door...) -REALITY. Yeah, btw I go everyday on my bikes too in city & yeah, I still alive but I think it's not 'cause the drivers are so kind here, in my city (& I think the same applies for every cities in these days)... Sadly I know only a really few countries (in USA & Europe) where still safe to cycling in the bigger cities.
More than the $17, if you include the time required to pay the cab driver and the time for the passenger to cross the street to get to the location, the bicycle would've won.
i have a MAJOR problem with the way this guy rides, it gives a black mark to the bicycling community at large. I lived in Illinois, both drove and cycled in and around Chicago, and I know that a bicyclist is supposed to follow all the traffic laws that a motorist is. A lot of people who really care about the image of the bicycling community frown upon the way some professional bicycle messengers disobey the rules of the road.
Easier to criticize us when you don't ride for a living. Obeying every traffic law as a bike messenger will leave you broke. I always find it funny when casual riders try to speak on how someone who's trying to make a living should ride. Put your criticism into action. Take a job as a bike messenger and follow all traffic rules. Do it for a month and tell us if you still have place to live Traffic laws are made for cars. A lot of the traffic laws are just not practical for a cyclist
True I have never been a bicycle messenger, partly because when I was riding all the time this type of work was nonexistent. People either rode a drop handled road bike or a single speed cruiser. I did look into this line of work but was told that at almost 30 years old I was to old to be a messenger. I may have spoken out of line and I will apologize for any misunderstanding on my part. I have seen several different types of riders and there are a lot of people who ride for fun or just to commute to and from work that disobey traffic laws. As a medic I have been called out to the scene of motor vehicle - bicycle accidents.
That's bull. I'm 31 about to turn 32 in a month and im as strong and fast as ever. That messenger company sounds like it was bad. Apology accepted and appreciated. The point is that all riders should use extreme caution when on the road. If you're going to run lights and break other traffic laws, use extreme caution at all times and do not interrupt traffic. Accidents happen. The goal is to minimize the possibilities.
Dyssekt DGE and nice comparison, dumbass. I'm not taking anything away from anyone by running lights when there's no one coming. You're just an up tight goodie two shoes that's probably lived a suburban sheltered life your entire existence.
Yo if any of you are bikers, check out the Triple Aught Design Fast Pack EDC two strap backpack. I only use that now. I started out using a Chrome Messenger, but when you are carrying a decent amount of stuff, your shoulder begins to hurt really bad. So I switched to a two strap bag. The Fast Pack EDC is a great two-strap backpack because it is made to handle a heavy load and it has a great amount of padding. Even better than a Chrome backpack.
красный бык,вы рекламируете мне нарушать правила на велосипеде и ездить без защиты выпивая несколько банок энергетика в день рискуя своим здоровьем?вас засудить?
You realize the majority of the top dogs in Line of Sight are friends with Nico, right? He's a world-class courier; even if he does make cycling look bad in this tacky Red Bull video.
If you get an adrenaline rush riding in traffic then Your doing it wrong. You should be comfortable with everything that’s going on and be in control of every movement you make. It should have flow and be satisfying, not exhilarating.
Anyone riding a bike on the street in downtown In between the lanes is partially insane to begin with. But damn do I love the rush of it all. (But I go through rear tires like chewing gum, I have a instinctual habit of drifting if I need to make emergency sharp turns. But hey a $15-$20 tire is better than getting rear ended by an aggressive taxi making a right turn.)
Enjoy life while you can... It will likely be very short for this kid. Or he will be confined to a wheel chair for what's left of it after the inevitable accident happens. Or maybe, he will just hit a pedestrian and do that to them. He breaks the law at least 10 times in the 3:09 that he is actually shown on the bike in this video. 0:18, 0:22, 0:43, 0:53, 1:23, 1:25, 1:32, 2:03, 2:29, 2:40.
A guy arriving on a bike that will be stolen and cost you $400 to replace or being dropped off from a taxi without sweatin...I’d chose the bike as well.
Dude, I get it you do it for a living but this doesn't justify running the read lights obviously creating a problems for the cars going under the green lights. And when you say "who have I hurt so far?", well thank god noone but don't you realize just getting in the way of the cars when you are not supposed to creates a dangerous road situation that might lead to an accident? At least if you do it for yourself don't promote this type of reckless driving. This gvies cyclist a bad name.
Георгий Антонов he's not getting in anyone's way. the point is to avoid cars while maintaining riding momentum. red lights should be treated as stop signs for cyclists.
Ying Yang. Life's all about optimism and this guy knows what's up. Chicago never complains about these things. I think you mean NYC. Chicago is super hard working but known for stress or being crowded.
+ Steve Hammond Explain further how he increases car insurance douchebag.
This is an example of what NOT to do while biking; if anything, this guy inconvenienced traffic and not only endangered his own life but the life of everyday pedestrians.
@@Dantheguitarman3 That guy Hammond has an attitude problem. If he threw coffee on me, he wouldn't be driving for long long time.
I commute by bike every day in Chicago, and it's pretty cool to see so many streets that you ride on a daily basis on this video.
He is drinking too much Red Bull - not healty
Yeah, biking around all day and drinking red bull is probably terrible for your heart and dehydrates. Kind of like how Sprite tries to make basketball commercial, but you bring a 20oz to a bball court and you will get gas cramps and possibly puke.

The resting heartbeat of a humming bird, after all that Red Bull.
No doubt lmao
eh he'll be alright
This guy can't be a Chicago native. He actually called it the Willis Tower.
Also no Chicago accent.

Bike messengers have more situational than most drivers.
We should be glad he could make it without running over a car 😩
nice job
What kind of bike does he have? Im trying to buy something like that.
So with a bike equipped with multiple gears he would've beaten the taxi.
there are no climbs chicago is flat

You realize the majority of the top dogs in Line of Sight are friends with Nico, right? He's a world-class courier; even if he does make cycling look bad in this tacky Red Bull video.
If you get an adrenaline rush riding in traffic then Your doing it wrong. You should be comfortable with everything that’s going on and be in control of every movement you make. It should have flow and be satisfying, not exhilarating.
No one cares
@@goldenage773 I care
Edge Man thanks for taking the time to compile this lol
Are all bike messengers dochebags? Its always portayed as so
Watch out! The Yellow one's don't stop! (Elf movie)
Man he's not using straps. Or are those highcut cleats? Haha!
Clipless pedals
You know the taxi took the long way
A guy arriving on a bike that will be stolen and cost you $400 to replace or being dropped off from a taxi without sweatin...I’d chose the bike as well.
30kmh average speed?
You missed the bin bro
Hope he picked up that can......
he threw it in a trash can...
gertrude dulila But he missed...
EDIT NVM THAT WAS A BIRD.
Aluminum can. Better to throw it on the ground and let someone get paid to recycle it than to toss in the the trash and send it to a landfill.
Maybe, but he should learn how to reCYCLE!!
Inspirational
And then they say motorcyclist are retarded
