I love the NLT and own the Quentel in both goatskin and calfskin. I agree that 28 gsm is too thin. I also agree that it is a fantastic Bible. Wonderful to see a beautiful premium quality Bible in the NLT.
Thinking about buying this Bible in black. I like to highlight a lot. Have you had any issues with that? That is if you highlight your bibles.

I love what they did with this text block! Gorgeous typesetting and very readable because of the lack of clutter within the text. I also love that Italian Aniline calfskin 🥰 just wish it had more color options. Awesome review, brother 💯
Thanks man! Yes it’s excellently done overall, and I personally like the subtle NLT specific detailing, such as the drop caps. Did you see that I mentioned your love of concordances? 😂

Yeah I have the CSB PSQ, if I didn’t already have that one, I’d probably be considering the NLT PSQ next year. Are you planning on getting that one?

Oh yeah that’s going to be nice!! I was going to do that but since I have the CSB I decided to go with the full size. Plus the 10pt font can last with me just in case I need it when I’m older haha

I agree with Wonton. I don't want a concordance or maps. I'd even drop the notes and references for a slight bump in font size - no less than 9.5, but 10.5 seems very comfortable. Just a simple reader, no extras. My perfect bible would be verse by verse, single or double column, blue letter for God/Jesus in both OT and NT (red makes me think fire, blue makes me think sky/heaven, even though they describe fire in one of the dreams in Gen.). Text block all wrapped up in a nice 5x7", then you can add what ever fine cover you wish :) I guess it would be a mix of PSQ, Treveris, Stridon
8-9 is my ideal font size 10-11 is a bit taxing over time for me for some reason. Oh yeah! That would be a really nice Bible edition! Have you ever seen a Bible that changes the color of the words of God in the OT? That seems really interesting

I think the bigger ones are too floppy in the text block, a bit too ghosty too. PSQ are better I think, I'll probably buy a couple more this year (waiting on NLT to drop, might do a NASB too).

@@TheBibleReviewer I think the NLT eleven font in a trimmer package would be good. I gifted a treveris recently, I was glad it wasn't for me because 15 words wide made it weird and cluttered (and it was slightly too ghosty). I think 9-12 words wide is right for a single column, I'd rather have a thick than wide bible. The Thomas Nelson SCR get that right (though the text block is a bit tight [supposedly that's improved recently]). I wonder if the Cambridge Clarion get the size and sharper print right, I'll find out sometime this year.
I assume you'll be trying a PSQ NLT, supposedly available 2nd quarter this year?
Was your CSB PSQ lighter when you first got it? It appears darker & richer than the NLT. I’m thinking that is patina?
I have regular yapp and full yapp and am so happy I got the FY in my NKJV PSQ. It’s the Bible I will take with me most. I am looking for a nice cover for it. Tim Wildsmith got a gorgeous cover, I think from Scotland. That’s what I will be looking at first if it’s not crazy expensive.
I don’t have a Tuscany yet, but maybe the NLT? I love the NLT to just enjoy and read.
I think it’s just difference in the natural leathers. I think the CSB looks very similar to how it was when I first got it. And yeah full yapp can definitely make sense for on the go. Oh yeah I remember seeing his video on that cover too, I think it was like plaid wool or something right?
I’m not a super expert on leathers, but I do know that I personally really like these Tuscany’s and I like NLT. As you said, it’s just so comfortable to read.

I read several different translations especially when I’m trying to understand a verse or chapter. I started my Christian walk at Harvest Christian Fellowship with Greg Laurie and he used the NLT. There is a sense of comfort and nostalgia when I read it.

Oh yes, I’m not sure what translation you normally use, but the NLT is highly readable and easy to understand. I like it, though some debate that it’s too dynamic rather than formal, so do some research. I’m not a translation expert. Not sure if you’ve seen his videos, but Mark Ward does lots of videos about translation ✌🏼
The NLT is translated for better “modern context readability” as a dynamic text “Thought-for-thought” translation. This means that the translators focus on the reading aspect a bit more than a literal Word-for-Word translation.
Think of it this way… as words are translated and context with usage changes over time… the “original” words become difficult to interpret (think of the difficult/outdated English words used in Shakespeare as an example).
So, the emphasis is to take a passage and translate the IDEA from the antiquated language into a form that has the objective to convey that IDEA into another form to be more “understandable”. While words are changed, they are “updated” and grouped to translate the expressed thought from the ancient language into a form that is modern and more “readable”… at the expense of modifying the original words to an understandable modern reader form and sentence structure.
My input is that this tradeoff makes the translation much easier to understand - but I cannot stop here.
Consider a Thought-for-thought bible like the NLT (I like mine so much) and later… get a “literal” Word-for-Word translation (like ESV like I have or an NASB or another Word-for-Word translation) also - where each and every word is translated from ancient Hebrew/Aramaic (OT) and Greek (NT) are translated to its’ English equivalent. Then, you can compare/contrast both of them to understand the context more fully and completely!
Sorry for long reply but I hope readers will find this useful! I just studied Hermeneutics at Seminary where this content was covered.

I definitely wanted to respect your channel and response - but only to supplement it with a bit more info on the features of NLT versus other translations.
I am so excited that I do not & have never owned a Schuyler Bible nor a “Premium” Bible…
However, I WON this exact bible in NASB and am awaiting for its’ arrival from Tim Wildsmith’s Christmas Giveaway.
I’m a 58-year-old Seminarian and have the Systematic Theology ESV, several NIVs, an NLT hand-signed Leather from Our Daily Bread President (on my 1st day of work last year).
I have the Great Adventure Bible RSV - 2CE and a Catholic Study Bible… and even the Pentateuch in Hebrew and English… but I have NEVER had an NASB… Word-For-Word Literal Translation.
I AM SO EXCITED… for its arrival - especially after your review!

You should proly get a wrist-arm band to cover up the cross tattoo on your arm for future videos. When you are holding up the Bible and all I see is the upside down cross next to it lol.
