This isn't what I was expecting when I clicked on this video. I figured you broke it in naturally by using it. I feel like you just ruined it for no reason. Either way, it's yours, not mine, so do what you will.

I’m not sure I would spend so much money on a Bible and force the wear and tear like you did. It would’ve been nice to see the actual wear over a period of time.

Right? My Cambridge wide margin Goatskin, that I’ve used and notated in every day since I got it last year, hasn’t seen that type of abuse. I was cringing watching that beating 😂

Personally, i think the back looks a lot better. It looks natural. The front looks like it’s been abused, not broken in. Just use it “naturally” for awhile and you’ll get a nice aged look.

thats a good way to split the glue between the leathers rubbing and rolling the cover

Why would anyone do this? The leather wears in through normal long term use. This is not the aging process. This is an ugly mess.

I have to admit, I agree with you. Not anytime in normal usage would you be rolling or pinching the cover.

You "aged it unnaturallly" and it shows. Why don't you use it and it will start to look aged without abusing it.

I know some folks struggle with a fast break-in of beautiful Bible leather like that, but I must admit I found it insightful. Very good unique offering from Schuyler. I ended up purchasing another Canterbury in Tuscany and it sure has quite an impact when one first experiences its quality. I like a thicker leather and I can tell from this video and from what I see in person that it will break in beautifully. In March a new printing of the personal size Canterbury will be released and one of the announced colors will be this Tuscany. I think I am going to get one. It will probably be a stunning little Bible. Though I love the KJBs of yore, I have settled on the Canterbury format for most study. My wide margin Canterbury is the marble mahogany calfskin. I have 3 mahogany calfskin and they are very different in look and in texture. All beautiful in their own way. The wide margin though is exceptional with all the varied texture it has and natural look.

Thank you for making this video. I absolutely love the burnished yellow color of the Tuscany, but I was nervous about the leather being too stiff like a lot of calfskin bibles are. My goatskin Allan and Schuyler’s are so soft and supple. And while, as others pointed out, it was an unnatural process, it does show that as the Bible is broken in, will become more supple.

Nice. My Tuscany ESV FY went from yellow to a soft burnt orangish color. Back is a smidge lighter orange than front. Still working on breaking it in. Nice feel.

So which do you prefer: Schuyler Goatskin or this calfskin? Can you compare the feel/differences? I kind of like the Tuscany Calfskin, but don’t care for the looks of the Jerusalem Cross without the coloring. Thank you.

From what I can see, you're literally breaking down the glue in between the cover and the liner. The glue was what provided the stiffness. Now you have less connection between the cover and the book block, that literally just reduced the structural robustness of the binding by a lot.
I'd just let the cover wear in naturally. I wouldn't try to speed up the wearing of the bible/biding.
Very nice video though, still enjoyed it a lot.

I bought it from a guy off the Facebook group “Buy sell trade everything Bibles” they have not come out with ESV Bibles In Tuscany yet. This was just a promo set I believe. You may be able to find one if you join that Facebook group, they come across there from time to time.

I’ve watched a lot of Schuyler bible videos since I bought my British tan PSQ about a month ago and this one has got me 😬😱 If you really want a broken in look why not dribble some syrup and ink on the cover and use it to level out a wobbly table for a month or two?

High-end Bibles are the only thing people pay a premium for to just abuse it. They would never do this to a leather jacket or a pair of premium dress shoe. 🤦
