Hi Bill, congrats on the anniversary if I got that right!? I wrote a rather lengthy reply earlier on a Sean video, but if I started all over and cost was a variable, I would skip stones altogether.. There is no way of beating the film-on-a-stick cost vs. gain (in my opinion as a fellow democrat). Then, when finance allows it, get one good finnisher, coticule, ark, etc. and you are set for life (unless you want to explore the rabbit hole). Good, fun, video as expected from you 😀
@@dnamol Thank you Johan. I am going to try the lapping film route one day. I’ll check out your writup I got into 2 of the razors I showcased. The Amazon model needed about 8 layers of tape to get to a reasonable bevel angle range, which makes it impossible to finish. I think the W&B was sharpened knife style freehand and unbalanced. The lapping films could help me here.
@billm.2677 I think you are right on the W&B.. alt if you have a narrow stone, but then again, the way you can swap films will likely be advantageous.. Hehe, not only am I a heretic to the wider group as I prefer convex honing, but I am also an oddball in the convex group as I advocate the film-on-a-stick method as presented by Jarrod's anonymous gentleman... yeah, my life is fun 😁
Thanks for the kind words Bill, I love to experiment and try new things. Happy anniversary my friend! I have purchased several razors from Jarrod at thesuperiorshave, great vendor and is so knowledgeable when it comes to straight razors. I bought a 5/8 thiers issard back in 2015 and destroyed it trying to learn straight razor honing, I would do things so different now if I was starting over. I shaped the jasper to a 25' wheel on one side and kept the other side flat that was burnished to a mirror polish with a 2" wide chisel. Ancient ocean jasper are one of the hardest stones I've ever used. Great video as always
Best video yet bill lol. I absolutely loved the video even my family did. Really appreciate going over the razors i was really curious on what you thought about them jokers. The black and yellow ones i got from a yard sale from an older guy and he said it was his dads. He gave us a whole bag of them there must have been about 9 but those two were the only ones salvageable. I really like the black one cuz it does look different from any razor that I've seen but even my family said that the yellow one would probably be the best. Other than that im looking forward to see the outcome of them all.
@@RaymondJ06 Glad you enjoyed it. I have worked on 2 of the pieces. The modern one is super difficult. I think I can get the black one to shave. The yellow one holds the most promise. I’ll make a vid when I’m done.
Loved the video Bill! I'm loving Sean's videos as well, he got some amazing edges with the convex hones, you could hear it through the audio how keen he honed them. Have a good one Bill!
Also, because of your intro I have recently started keto and intermittent fasting. I've been at it for about a month now, and have lost 10 pounds. My blood pressure is alot better now also, so thank you.
@@horizondrive2039 Nice start I hope your low carb journey brings you great health Make America Healthy Again. I wish I could add in intermittent fasting, it is working well for my brother.
@ I started keto when I found I was diabetic. Within 2 weeks of keto I started noticing feelings in my feet walking around at work. It was feeling that I did not know I had lost.
@@billm.2677 I hope you're doing well now, you certainly look like it. Primary, what primary? 😅 I have a hard time telling if you're being sarcastic or not haha. Regardless great video Bill. I just started a new job so I figured I'd treat myself to a new Boker, can't wait for it to arrive. I also scored an old Wade & Butcher "you lather well I'll shave well."
@@horizondrive2039 Hello @horizondrive2039 and thanks for watching. Primary??, well sometimes you just have to understand how we DemoRats do things. 😎 Good luck with the new job. Congrats on the new razor, hope you enjoy it.
@@billm.2677 Thanks Bill. The job is going smooth so far. The only thing that worries me about Trump winning, are the illegals coming over the border into Canada. I just hope we can get rid of Trudeau and fast. I'm still waiting for the razor in the post. I got the limited run "bicycle race." It's my first boker. I wanted a 6/8 but my dad loved the Queen song "bicycle race" he passed away from cancer a few years back, so it will bring a bit of nostalgia everytime I use it. Hope you have a great week, cheers.
Great vedio. Just what I wanted to hear. I'm starting out got stones. 3k/8k and a 12k Ardas stone Polish. Still not getting the shave ready hair popping. Waiting for a quality razor, instead of chineese, 25$
@@alexharris8500 I started with a similar progression. Have fun with the journey. Check out some of the guys that are adding in lapping films on a convex surface to create a simple hollowing of the bevel. Also take a look at using a polystyrene packing peanut to check your work. It worked nice for me.
