I became a Christian ten years ago as a struggling addict in jail. I cleaned up, got married, began pastoring. Then in 2015 I relapsed, got arrested and went to prison. My wife divorced me, my friends in ministry left me, and ultimately I lost my faith. I've been out of prison nine months now and rebuilding my life. I hadn't stepped foot in a church until last week. But when I did, I remembered the love of God that defined me for so long. I didn't feel it, but I did remember. The sadness comes in waves out of nowhere, and that connection to God isn't there. But I'm trying to hold on. It used to be that I would've told someone in my situation to "just have faith," but I see now that it's not sufficient. I'm thankful for men like Rich Mullins and Keith Green. Their music wasn't feel-good happy stuff. It was real and raw, and the kind of thing that hurting people need to hear when they've been left behind by the world and the church. I know I'm being restored little by little, and maybe one day I'll pastor again. That's where my heart has always been. As difficult as these last few years have been, there's hope on the other side of it. I know that from experience. To anyone hurting and unable to see the end of your misery, it's coming. No feel-good stuff here. No "when we all get to heaven." Better days are coming in this life. Pray for me and I'll pray for you.
God bless you, life happens to us all, 2 of my grown children are addicts, so my life is prayer!! Just remember God's love NEVER left you, people will for sure, but stay focused on Jesus, your relationship with Him, no doubt at all He will do more than restore you!! He's coming to get us soon, then our life really begins 💙🙏🏼📖🗡️
I listened to this while going through Chemo treatments literally "shaking like a leaf". I held on to my wooden cross and Christ's strength to get me through. Thanks to these words and Jesus' calming presence I had much needed moments of peace.
I searched for this song because I am making a playlist to bring with me to chemo. When This version came up, the first thing I saw was Stacy’s comment that she was going to start chemo. Then I read Karla’s comment. It made my heart leap to think I had found other ladies fighting cancer while searching for this song. I had chemo 4 years ago and had a four year remission. Rich is one of the select Christian music artists that can break a brotha down like me. We all like to put on think skin and thick we've got it all together, but we'll soon realize that we need Jesus to hold us. Even when you're not a believer, I can bet an "Oh God, Oh God" will come out your mouth in a tragedy. Rich transcends race. I totally get what you mean about how we BS ourselves thinking were all together. I look around at my church and I don't see one black family. That says something about us and it ain't pretty. Jesus is everything man. They say there are no tears in heaven. Hi Aimee I have just read your comments as I listen to Rich sing. What an amazing testimony from those huge trials. Your comment gives me so much strength. I hope u r seeing Gods live and faithfulness more and more.
I found Him at the Cross my friend. I'm trusting and believing daily. So many non-believers look at believers and say ok, where are all the answers? Nowhere in the Bible have I found, and if I'm wrong someone feel free to show me, that the moment you are saved from hell you know all the answers to life's problems. We walk daily, by faith, and learn more and grow closer to God. Rich had a humble servant's heart, not a fighting heart. He truly was an example of God's grace and love.
The number one reason I am a Christian is because of what Jesus Christ did for me, (and for anyone who believes in Him) that goes without saying, but, it was Rich; his music, his writings and most importantly, the way he lived his life, that showed me how to truly be real, not-of-this-world, Christ-centered Christian. I don't think there ever was a more honest transparent Christian musician songwriter. I cried so hard watching Ragamuffin. He loved one girl only and had such pain but kept standing on his faith in Jesus. When he finally got set free from his demons God took him home. I don't know if the girl was selfish or dumb in her decision to leave him but I know she caused him to live with unbearable pain. She envisioned what her live would not be like with him on the road never trusting in God that they could have a life together on the road. I really don't understand how she could have been so cruel as to not come to a concert, talk to him or anything. What a horrible thing to do to someone who had never done anything wrong to you. May God forgive you for hurting the most gentle soul on the planet because you had a predetermined picture of a life I am sure would never be as rewarding as if you had stood by him. He loved you so much and a love like that I am sure you will never know again.
I know she came to one concert after his father died but then it was took late. He didn't want to see her married to someone else. That pushed him further into the alcohol.
Tameko Wood I just saw the movie, which was great, but in reading the back story, I found that the girlfriend wasn't actually real, but a composite of girls he had known in his life. So not everything that happened w/ her in the movie was real.
Yes I understand but she rejected him when he got the Nashville proposal then refused to speak to him so she would not be tempted to him back or to give him a chance to change mind.
I didn't know much about him, but I just watched the movie Ragamuffin depicting his life. He was an awesome songwriter gifted from heaven. It seems his most inspirational songs came from his time of sorrows. This is just my opinion, but it also seems many of his songs show how depressed he was. As a worshiper and a songwriter, we all know his you feel inside can oftentimes be communicated in the atmosphere. He seemed so sad at times. I he is resting now in the arms of his inspiration ... the Almigty.
I watched the movie last night. I thought it was incredible. I believe that people who are extremely tormented have a knack for shining on the outside...Robin Williams for example. Rich sang some songs that showed just how much pain he was in..."Jesus," "Hold Me Jesus," among others. He didn't always sing "foo-foo" Christian songs. He sang songs that our hearts need to hear. He was a lonely, torn man who wasn't afraid to show it. He gave everything he had to the Lord. What a blessing we have been given in him.
Anytime I hear this song it is like a shot of adrenaline to amp my faith that has weakened. It tears me up and I am ready to fight on in this spiritual battle we are in
The night of 911, I was going to bed, and started shaking like a leaf. So Jesus used this song to calm my fears, and gave me His peace. Thank You Lord Jesus!
Miss you Rich I wish and hope you would say Hi to my mom for me I know you are both in heaven. I would like to ask if someone would pray for me. my life is a mess please pray for me. Thankyou Rich for all the lives you touched. a awesome singer.
I thought I was doing OK, I have been shaking, I am crying out to you now, please take these blisters off my heart. Your Word is all I have, please give me another chance to be the man of God you have called me to be, my family and I need you so much!
I have been listening to Christian music for over 40 yrs(46 now : ) And this is way up there, way way up there! Rich is way up there...in my fav artist. HE IS the most unique, soulful, heartfelt... he is missed. vee
Tonight I say the same: Hold me, Jesus, I am shaking like a leaf. "Sometimes my life don't make sense at all" but He knows all and He is in charge. Thank you, Jesus.
Pris Platt If it is a comfort to you, God knows very well what it is to lose a child, and the love he had for his son, like the love he has for us, is beyond understanding. I pray you continue to find comfort in Him.
"We can't so much see light as we can see things because of it. So I do not meet God in a vacuum -- I meet Him in the world He has provided for me to meet Him in -- in a world of events and of places, of history -- time and space, in a world of lives of people and their records of their encounters. I meet God in this world -- in the world of these things...and this is the world as best as I can remember it.” (Rich Mullins)
Dear Lord, please guide me in the right direction, i ask for your forgiveness and help...i am going through some very rough times right now and i need you more than ever...please let your light cover me through these times..
Loved the movie Ragamuffin, a real blessing to know there are others who follow God according to where Jesus leads you and not of man. Ironically, his views about traditional church dogmatism and views are identical to my own. Watching the movie was truly a blessing. As quoted from Rich Mullins: "A lot of the stuff which I thought was so different between Protestants and Catholics [was] not, but at the end of going through an RCIA [Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults] course, I also realized that there are some real and significant differences. I'm not sure which side of the issues I come down on. My openness to Catholicism was very scary to me because, when you grow up in a church where they don't even put up a cross, many things were foreign to me. I went to an older Protestant gentleman that I've respected for years and years, and I asked him, "When does faithfulness to Jesus call us to lay aside our biases and when does it call us to stand beside them?" His answer to me was that it is not about being Catholic or Protestant. It is about being faithful to Jesus. The issue is not about which church you go to, it is about following Jesus where He leads you." He truly lived according to God's own definition of pure and undefiled Religion and a great example of keeping oneself from being polluted by the world.. In essence, helping others who could otherwise not help themselves. James 1:24 Tragic way to die being thrown from the jeep, then run over by a semi truck. However, we all know Richard Wayne Mullins is in a far better place where no there is no more pain or suffering and well beyond our own imagination the glory God has in store for those who love him. But as it is written, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him." 1st Corinthians 2:9
Yes. I got that, "following Jesus where He leads you", I mean /really/ got it while I was in RCIA. I was raised Southern Baptist, went to a Church of God as a teenager, non-denomination church in my early to mid twenties... I was 33 when I finally GOT it--just follow Jesus.
Your quote from Rich is missing the last few sentences, which gives the whole quote a very different meaning! "If God leads you to the Catholic church, then you follow Him. So, the last couple of years now, I have been in Limbo about the whole thing. For me, it all comes down to the Eucharist. Is it really Jesus and is He present there? I think, after some pretty honest searching, I've come to a few dead ends that I am not going to be able to bridge by getting more information. It will just require a little more faith on my part, and it is not there yet." Rich Mullins From the article “Rich Mullins” by David Wang, April 1997 issue of The Catholic Register
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but this video was shot in Wichita, Kansas at the home of author James Bryan Smith (his books are awesome, BTW!), where Rich lived for a time. He asked Jim if he could make "a few changes" to the attic and Jim and his wife came home one day to find Rich had taken up ALL the carpet, rolled it up and left it on the curb ;-) This song - wow. Still being used in my life. I am so grateful that we got to have this man on the planet for as long as we did. Love Rich!
went though famon the past couple of year's..finially realized that is what it is..never in my almost fifty years would i imagine the pain i endure today..i hold the song soo close..he know's what i need..even when i let go of God, he still hold's me..
but you know what, we have our own following of Christian music and we who love the Lord, and love our Christian artist and love each other.. will prevail Bless u
Continue to rest with the Lord Rich Mullins. Such a great talent such a great voice...indeed, your music has blessed us over the years. We miss you.....! Now Lord, please...hold me Jesus, cause am shaking like a leaf, You have been king of my glory, won't You be my Prince of Peace.....
The first time I ever heard this song, I was a camp counselor at a girls' Christian summer camp and we did a dramatic interpretation to it. I had no idea at the time that it was Rich Mullins. The words of the song spoke to my heart in a very real way. Later, I learned who sang the song, and that was it--I was sold on his music. Can't wait to meet him one day in heaven....after I see my Saviour first, and my family. ;)
There are few people I have never met that I miss as much as I miss R. Mullins. Whenever I hear his music I thank him, and I thank God for him. See you on the other side bro.
God Loves us in our brokeness . And he loves us just the way we are. He is An Awesome God. If you haven't watch the movie Ragamuffin I strongly Suggest you do. Its about Rich Mullin's life & his broke ness how God Changed him in his messiness. It will make you laugh & cry. Let God speak to you through this he will bless you.
His songs tell the exact same way I feel, only he puts it in words and melody. He saw the struggles of christianity, but he went through them, straight to God.
Lord, as so many of us are on lockdown, jobs and savings are evaporating because of the coronavirus, we really need You. So many of us are scared. Please hold us, Jesus.
That's so cool. I actually live in Wichita, Kansas and when my Dad was alive he would always play his songs and I grew up listening to him, but i"m still growing up because I'm only 14.
This song got me through a day in court when I had to account for things I did before I gave the lord my life. Over and over I sang this song in my head! Hold me Jesus I'm shaking like a leaf, you have been king of my glory would you be my prince of peace!
I just broke out in tears listening to this song, I was thinking of my dad, who died on the 23rd of October 2020, and how this will be my first Christmas without him. He died alone, in the hospital, he died while my mom, my sister, and I where heading over to the hospital to see him, but while we were waiting for them to let us in to see him, the doctor came in and said that he died, ''Okay, he actualy said, that he Expired, but same thing.'' 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Dear Esther, your dad is not dead but alive! And you will meet again. Do you believe? Your dad did only passed on the other side, but the soul does not die. And he was not alone, he had the Holi spirit.May God bless you!❤
Yep the grass withers and the flowers fall but the word of our God remains forever. We spend some time here and think it's a big deal but we are dust. No one will even know I existed in 150 years maybe even less. Peace
To know to walk in the arms of our lord is where is he is right now, but to leave the true heart of a man of god! thank you for your words that still lead us to his arms
This song got me through my own cancer (supposed to be terminal) and the death of my oldest son from cancer a year later. Maybe someday it will all make sense.
Thank you Rich Mullins for your beautiful music. Your music has inspired me through my music. Hold me Jesus, I'm shaking like a leaf, you have been kind of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace. Blessings and Peace
mrm64- God used Rich for his good purposes and it should give us all hope that as broken as he felt - he is in heaven! He was such a blessing to so many! Blessings to you!
Sometimes it easy to forget how important we are to God's will. For those who don't believe in God, you have no idea what it's like to have God's love, if you did you will find the peace this song brings.
Rich walked with God and God took him. I thank the Lord for allowing us to experience His love through Rich and his music. God wants those of us who are ready. "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh it away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."
Rich's music continues to bring us closer to G-d every time we hear one of his songs. His talent to play and compose from a simple tune played with cups to the great symphonic sounds of Calling Out Your Name, (My Favorite), hasn't been matched by any other artist. May your lives be blessed by Rich's music when ever you hear him, and hopefully we'll all sing and dance with him soon at Messiah's wedding. Shalom
I've been struggling so for about a year now. Just recently discovered Rich's beautiful music & watched Ragamuffin. His music & words have helped me so much. He was so real & humble. So talented! Such an inspiration! Gone far too soon! But I'm sure he's singing in Heaven in his bare feet.😊
I love Wichita. What a lovely memory, musicforever712 - I'm so sorry your Dad isn't here any more. Maybe Rich's music can remind you of your Dad too. Hugs!
Yes, that song and several others from the "Jesus Record" speak to me in a way that no other Christian artist ever has. I am very sorry for what happened to you. No child should ever have to go through that.
This man has so many gifts and talents that God give him. Thank you Jesus for blessing our lives with Richard Mullins songs and his words of praise. We love you Rich Mullins. I'm blessed every single day from a song or a word from Jesus. Thank you again. I only wish we could have met but Jesus took you home. We will see you in Heaven one day and get to hear your beautiful songs from your heart to ours they speak to us. Thank you Holy Spirit. Friends Always ,Kelly Tillery
He wrote it as a prayer song - and i do find myself praying that almost daily. I love all of Rich's music. It's like it was written today. (truth's like that... timeless)
This describes my life right now: "Well, sometimes my life just don't make sense at all. When the mountains look so steep, and my faith just seems so small. So hold me, Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf. You have been king of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace?" Beautiful words.
Without saying who it was, I lost someone very close to me recently. And every time I listen to this song, the sorrow emerges, and I'm forced to rely on Him. That's the power of this song.
We miss you so much Rich! Your excellence in music for praising KING JESUS is still being played all over the world! Look forward to meeting you in Heaven along with KING JESUS!
*I am equating Jesus with God because they are both in the Godhead along with the Holy Spirit. So anything God can do, Jesus can do also. He has the power to raise Himself up from death. My Jesus defies logic, He is amazing and I love Him so much. He is the sweetest person I have ever met.

Thank You Lord Jesus!
cried to this song many many times.
+Georgiana Salter Me too! Other of his songs as well!
I still do
It got me through some really tough days!
Miss you Rich I wish and hope you would say Hi to my mom for me I know you are both in heaven. I would like to ask if someone would pray for me. my life is a mess please pray for me. Thankyou Rich for all the lives you touched. a awesome singer.
Brokenness is what we bring to God, to make us whole again....
😢😢😢😢😢
I thought I was doing OK, I have been shaking, I am crying out to you now, please take these blisters off my heart. Your Word is all I have, please give me another chance to be the man of God you have called me to be, my family and I need you so much!
I have been listening to Christian music for over 40 yrs(46 now : )
And this is way up there, way way up there! Rich is way up there...in my fav artist.
HE IS the most unique, soulful, heartfelt...
he is missed.
vee
I like that line too. But when God is always perfect and always right - guess where that leaves you.
Tonight I say the same: Hold me, Jesus, I am shaking like a leaf. "Sometimes my life don't make sense at all" but He knows all and He is in charge. Thank you, Jesus.
This song got me through my daughter's death when she chose to leave this world.
Pris Platt There cannot be greater hurt than losing a child. I'm so sorry. God bless you.

Rich was an arrow pointing towards heaven! Miss him! Can't wait to play music with him in heaven someday!
As quoted from Rich Mullins:
"A lot of the stuff which I thought was so different between Protestants and Catholics [was] not, but at the end of going through an RCIA [Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults] course, I also realized that there are some real and significant differences. The issue is not about which church you go to, it is about following Jesus where He leads you."
He truly lived according to God's own definition of pure and undefiled Religion and a great example of keeping oneself from being polluted by the world.. In essence, helping others who could otherwise not help themselves. James 1:24
Tragic way to die being thrown from the jeep, then run over by a semi truck.
Rich Mullins is one of those men that it is very clear he loved Jesus.I would have liked to have met him. I will when we are with Jesus.
We anticipate a joyful
Song in heaven with Rich .
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but this video was shot in Wichita, Kansas at the home of author James Bryan Smith (his books are awesome, BTW!), where Rich lived for a time. He asked Jim if he could make "a few changes" to the attic and Jim and his wife came home one day to find Rich had taken up ALL the carpet, rolled it up and left it on the curb ;-)
This song - wow. Still being used in my life. I am so grateful that we got to have this man on the planet for as long as we did. Love Rich!
This is the first song I heard him sing on radio way back in the day. I've loved everything about him ever since.
Rich Mullins is really an anninted song writer...he has inspired lot of us to carry the cross and follow Christ.
went though famon the past couple of year's..finially realized that is what it is..never in my almost fifty years would i imagine the pain i endure today..i hold the song soo close..he know's what i need..even when i let go of God, he still hold's me..
but you know what, we have our own following of Christian music and we who love the Lord, and love our Christian artist and love each other..
will prevail
Bless u
I never met him here on earth. I sure can't wait to see him in heaven.
I miss you Rich. I know you are still singing for Jesus in Heaven
He is
An Awesome God. If you haven't watch the movie Ragamuffin I strongly
Suggest you do. Its about Rich Mullin's life & his broke ness how God
Changed him in his messiness. It will make you laugh & cry.
Let God speak to you through this he will bless you.
As a believer I would rather say that Rich Mullins is now more alive than us down here.
I'd rather fight you for something I don't really want, than take what you give that I need.... Wow, what a powerful line!
That's so cool. I actually live in Wichita, Kansas and when my Dad was alive he would always play his songs and I grew up listening to him, but i"m still growing up because I'm only 14.
He died the month before i was born,i will never forget this song or his music
I miss Rich. But one day, we will all be together in Jesus. Hallelujah!

This is one of my favorite songs by him, I have heard this song so many times it has helped me so much
Hold me
Jesus, I'm shaking like a leaf
Rest in Peace, Brother Rich. See you soon at Jesus Feet
this song inspired me to feed my dog for once in the past week
I have a couple of loved ones that struggle with alcoholism and this song has me continue to ask Jesus to hold them
This song got me through a day in court when I had to account for things I did before I gave the lord my life.
And he was not alone, he had the Holi spirit.May God bless you!❤
@@eliculross9771 Oh I know, I believe, but it doesn’t stop me from missing him
' id rather fight You for something i dont really want than take what you give that i need'. unfortunately very true for this modern world.
my mom used to listen to this song when i was younger i thought it was boring . yrs later i realized we were all leaves
Yep the grass withers and the flowers fall but the word of our God remains forever. We spend some time here and think it's a big deal but we are dust. No one will even know I existed in 150 years maybe even less. Peace
This song has a special meaning to me. I sang it in my grandfathers room the night he died. I know what it say's in scripture but I still miss him.
This is my song to JESUS..MY KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!!
I am feeling this today--I need Jesus to hold me.
Thank you Jesus
I need Your peace right now Lord. I need to surrender my fears to you. You are in control, not me.
To know to walk in the arms of our lord is where is he is right now, but to leave the true heart of a man of god! thank you for your words that still lead us to his arms
This song got me through my own cancer (supposed to be terminal) and the death of my oldest son from cancer a year later. Maybe someday it will all make sense.
god bless all the parents out in CT this week
Thank you Rich Mullins for your beautiful music. Your music has inspired me through my music. Hold me Jesus, I'm shaking like a leaf, you have been kind of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace.
Blessings and Peace

I had this disc in my truck. I listened to it over and over.
I was blessed to be at one of his concerts in Salem, Missouri. What a talented songwriter and musician.
its just plain sense, rich mullins is the least commercial, most deep, just plain the best christian artist there is.
Thank You Jesus, I bless You, I worship You, I adore You, I love you Lord above everyone and everyone. God Bless everyone.
Jesus I love You above everyone and everything, Hold me Jesus, I am shaking like a leave.
mrm64- God used Rich for his good purposes and it should give us all hope that as broken as he felt - he is in heaven! He was such a blessing to so many! Blessings to you!
This was and will always be my favorite Rich song. I miss him more each day. Christian music sucks without him.
Rich is singing this TO Jesus up in heaven...
Sometimes it easy to forget how important we are to God's will.
For those who don't believe in God, you have no idea what it's like to have God's love, if you did you will find the peace this song brings.
Such a blessed and anointed man. I miss his music, the sounds of my christian youth!
Sending Love ❤️...Nancy..Are you single? ❤️😊
Shalom
Surrender don't come natural to me. Hold me Jesus.
It doesn't to me either!
Randall Shaver "I'd rather fight you for something I don't really want, than take what you give that I need". This song is one of my favorites.
Hugs!
If Rich Mullins was still alive today I’d probably would’ve been to at least one of his concerts oh well I can’t wait to meet him in Heaven.
One of the greatest contemporary Christian artists that I know :)
This song makes me weep. Thank you Rich for your legacy
Yes, that song and several others from the "Jesus Record" speak to me in a way that no other Christian artist ever has. I am very sorry for what happened to you. No child should ever have to go through that.
as my fear grips me I know that God is greater, this song reminds me of that reality
we lost a good CHRISTian brother when he passed away
This man has so many gifts and talents that God give him. Thank you Jesus for blessing our lives with Richard Mullins songs and his words of praise. We love you Rich Mullins. I'm blessed every single day from a song or a word from Jesus. Thank you again. I only wish we could have met but Jesus took you home. We will see you in Heaven one day and get to hear your beautiful songs from your heart to ours they speak to us. Thank you Holy Spirit. Friends Always ,Kelly Tillery
One of the beautiful songs he ever wrote. Thanks for sharing.
i dont know if any of you have seen the film about rich called homeless man the restless heart of rich mullins but i highly recommend it!
You have been king of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace?"
Beautiful words.
We'll see him again. Within God's perfect timing.
I miss him and never knew him. I know Christ, I have that. But I missed life so much. Just breathing.
Rich was a great musician! one of my favorites. rest in peace rich
This song is my comfort in times of trouble...
*I am equating Jesus with God because they are both in the Godhead along with the Holy Spirit. So anything God can do, Jesus can do also. He has the power to raise Himself up from death. My Jesus defies logic, He is amazing and I love Him so much. He is the sweetest person I have ever met.
