Eastern Screech Owl Calling

- Although I've seen the Eastern Screech owl many times in the past (mostly during their nap time), I was very very fortunate to witness this grey morph Screech Owl Calling. I'm always wondering what the call was about. Any thoughts?

Why are they called screech owls? They never screech. Not once in my life have I heard them screech, only trill.
Yeah I know, they are grossly misnamed

Barn owls ought to be called screech owls!
Maybe their sounds do sound like screeching from afar.

I just let my canine hoodlums3 out and back in, for the last time tonight and heard an owl calling out there. It was hauntingly beautiful, so I came to TH-cam to find which kind of owl we heard and there it is! Thanks for this awesome video of the beauty!! I live in the western NC mtns btw. Calling their mate perhaps?

Several times ive sat on my grandfather's porch and mimicked that call. Several times it would bring the owl closer it was super cool. Love hearing them
I am curious which owl sounds like woodpecker pecking on a tree. Was about 7:00 am. Thought it was a screech owl.

They're TINY. They almost don't look real. I saw one at a raptor sanctuary once.

@@bellasvistas3463 they're active at dusk as they start hunting. Again, I had no idea why this owl was calling. It just happened at the right time.
