This is the Keeley Electronics GC-2 Limiting Amplifier, a pedal that brings studio quality compression and limiting to the compact effect pedal format. The GC-2 achieves these warm, musical tones with a THAT Corporation 4320 IC, a high performance chip developed by former DBX engineers that allows Keeley to squeeze all the sound and functionality of legendary studio compressors like the DBX 160A into an easy to use pedal. The key to the GC-2's powers is its Compression and Threshold controls. By carefully adjusting the compression ratio, from no compression with the knob all the way down, to hard-knee limiting with the knob cranked, the GC-2 can produce everything from a subtle, transparent squish, to aggressive peak limiting of signals that attempt to exceed your chosen threshold setting. The GC-2's gain circuit offers 20 dB of output, more than enough make-up gain to push the front end of your tube amp into sweet, juicy break-up, making the pedal useful as a transparent clean boost even with the compression circuit off. The Keeley GC-2 Limiting Amplifier is useful on just about any instrument, from guitar, bass, and keys, to drum machines, and it's built with premium components and true bypass switching in Oklahoma, USA.

Fantastic demonstration of the Hard-Limiter use! Thanks so much Andy. I really appreciate you showing that off so well.

A good compressor is a beautiful thing. Andy, as usual, knows how to properly demonstrate a pedal. Sounds fantastic.

I love the choice of music selected to emphasize the strengths of this pedal. Some hidden gems for soul fans and hip hop crate diggers. Kudos!

I can't live without my Keeley compressor. This new one really intrigues me. The lower noise floor is attractive. I'm going to end up getting this, it sounds great. Andy makes everything sound great, but still. It's strange how compression wasn't something I thought I needed. Now, I won't take a stage without it unless I want a singer glaring at me. I've also discovered it solves the problem of dialing in the perfect overdrive tone, but the sustain is lacking, boom compression.

Nice to see Andy play the bass. I guess he was inspired by pgs's new demo man, Mike Harman.
My question is : is the bass DI'ed or does he use a bass amp (I suppose the former though)?

I remember many years ago buying a fretted and fretless version of those Ibanez Musician series basses. They rocked. And they were stolen the second gig I ever did with them. Bummed. The price of doing business in NYC. Thank god I left that hole behind. Nice compressor, add to the wish list. Shame is I have all of these things, just not quite as good or versatile as these.

    Just bought a GC.
My question is where it goes in the pedal chain ? At the first place ore at the end ?

Question: Can this pedal be used at the end of a pedal board to even out output levels of pedals?

That what its for, this one in particular is for end of your chain

How do I set this to be a “brick wall” limiter?

    • @cyrusfontaine2598
      @cyrusfontaine2598 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

The Compression knob controls ratio. At the highest settings, it will do brick wall limiting! Set that first, with the gain at the 0 mark, then adjust the threshold down until you hear it kick in. Turn up the gain to compensate for the loss in level, and you're good to go!

So this is pretty much a version of the Maxon CP-9 Pro +

      No, the circuits are different.

Because they have the same controls? By that definition a Klon is a version of a Tube Screamer etc.

Jesse Maes Nope, but because they are built around the same THAT INC. chip and use the same dbx compression principle. But, oh well...

That was one of many in-house tracks we used for the spec portion. I wrote this one but many are by Jamie Wolfert who runs Harsh Tones demos.
