Farmers deserve to be paid for the food they grow! We are loosing so much farmland because small growers
Can't afford to stay on their land...this does nothing to help.

I also do a farmers marked and I see a lot of people that try to do this. They go really late and you know what?
We dont give any food to then. Its better to go to the family, neighbors
      or animals.
This really disturbed me because farming is really a hard work, and a big problem is that farmers dont convey that, they should not have given the food away, it shoud have gone to the charity.
And also, many people dont understand the hours that we drive to be there, selling the food. And then some rich brats want then for free.
      -.-

Soooo much fruit gets thrown away from markers markets in San Diego. They have plenty to give to the charities AND give SOME away to the FEW people that show up late and can score a deal OCCASIONALLY. There's plenty to go around. Calm down people.

PSA: DO NOT ASK YOUR LOCAL FARMERS FOR FREE FOOD AND DO NOT TRY TO NEGOTIATE A LOWER PRICE. You have no idea what goes into the growing and harvesting of fresh, local produce. It's back breaking work. The prices are what they are to cover production costs and the cost of labor. Coming from someone who works on a small farm and is often selling at market, nothing irritates me and the owner of the farm more than someone trying to get us to come down on our price or people complaining about the price. Please keep this in mind the next time you're shopping at a farmer's market.

You said the true thing. I hate people who try this. And she looks like someone who can pay.

Yes! It's so frustrating! I'm not sure how she's "supporting local farmers" by asking for free fruit. You would never go to Walmart or Costco and ask for free food, so why do people think it's appropriate at a market? This produce is the livelihood of these farmers. I'm not sure she fully understands that when she walks up to them and takes from them when she clearly has the money to pay for it.

you have money, I don't think you need to be taking away donated stuff from them, they could have given it to someone who is in greater need. Of course if you asked them to give it to you, you put them in a awkward spot and they gave it to you.

Y’all gotta chill with the whole “she is rich why she gotta bargain” thing. I bet she gets a lot of comments from people saying being vegan is “too expensive” and things like that so she made this video to show them it doesn’t always have to be expensive. People bargain for food and basically everything all over the world. It isn’t uncommon in Latin American countries which is why the Mexican farmer was able to joke around with the bargains and used a coin as well. People comment it’s too expensive and when she shows us how you can make it cheaper people start commenting that it’s wrong and it’s better to pay full price. Farmers are not idiots, if they weren’t willing to give her the fruit, they would have told her no. Most of the fruit that was over ripe weren’t going to be donated anyways, they were going to be reused as compost

Last year I was traveling and there was a small fruit stand besides the hotel and me and my friend would always find amazing deals at closing time for the fruit that was ripe because if they didnt sell then it will just go to waste. And we would just keep them in the hotel fridge and then snack on fruit the next day while we explored the city or have it as an afternoon snack.

  • @GhoulishCop
    @GhoulishCop 8 ปีที่แล้ว

I tried this after watching this video yesterday. Our town has a small farmers market that opens once a week on Thursdays so selection is already limited. Got there right around closing time and asked the owner of the fruit and vegetable stand if he had any overripe fruit he was planning on tossing. He said it was early in the season yet for that, but later on he probably would, but he did have a couple of tomatoes that he let me have for free! So it works! Will now scout the area for other farmers markets and try it there too.

Olivia Lopez huh?!?!? Exactly what?!?!? Her comment was one of the dumbest things ever.
If if what I'm about to sy wasn't true it would be incredibly dumb. People on tight budgets should steal from charity?!?! Are you guys joking?!?! One of the most bizarre comments I've ever seen.
But, RawVana is EXTREMELY well off, so even your stupid logic isn't remotely applicable here.
I wish she had responded to my comment because I think it was just a miscommunication on her part, I doubt she would take food that was supposed to go to charity, that would make her a pretty deplorable person and I think she's a wonderful person.

These are really good tips: basically asking for fruit that are not wanted for free or even just a discounted price. I did the same by volunteering at catering events and I would take home crates of fruit for free. I didn't think about going to the farmers' market an hour till closing time. What I want to know is how to store/freeze/preserve all these fruits? Because I cannot eat that many in time before it goes bad!

Great video Rawvana! I still have not been to that farmers market. One tip about Sprouts Farmers Market, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods is you can ask in produce to buy a case of bananas. At trader joes it's about 100 bananas in a box and the box is usually 40LB. At Trader Joes it's always 19 dollars because they sell by the banana not the pound. At Sprouts and Whole Foods the price changes depending on the season. Sprouts will give you a 10% case discount. I never buy my case of bananas at Whole Foods because unfortunately they mark the price up just because they are Whole Foods. Cheers!

saddenned to see a wealthy youtuber trying to save money on fruits, all the while spending thousands on stella mccartney shoes. When you demonstrate so guiltlessly that you pay a fortune for unnecessary pieces of fashion (and actually advertising them), and then giving tips to pay less on such essential goods, goods on which local farmers economically depend on, i feel like you are sending a perverse message to prioritize the wrong things in life. (yes one is free to do what one wants with his money, but veganism as you so often praise is a lifestyle a mindset that (i believe) should encourage supporting local farmers, and actually paying them for growing the fruits, for the work they did. if you can afford so many travels, clothes, etc, i think you can afford a peach or two) (and yes by giving these tips you can maybe help pp go vegan by showing them being vegan is affordable but it is such a sly way to do it taking advantage of the farmers). I am especially disturbed by your lack of humanity, how it does not bother you for one second to take the food that was intended for charity; off you go smiling and laughing, proud of your "free food". Being all nice to the farmers, and then making a video telling pp how to not pay for the food they grew, shame on you.

it's her money she can use it for what she wants, and she is showing how people who struggle economically can be vegan/raw and still have a healthy lifestyle on a low budget, they were gonna give the overripe/bruised fruit away anyway or toss it, so they wouldn't be making money off it anyway. plus you obviously have never been to a farmers market if you think she was the one cheating them out of money, they slap a higher price on anything to say it's organic, they make plenty of money (not to mention they even grow their own food) and she's a lot more helpful than kristina who thinks $20-25 a day is affordable for broke people

I also do a farmers marked and I see a lot of people that try to do
this. They go really late and you know what?
We dont give any food to then. Its better to go to the family, neighbors
      or animals.
This really disturbed me because farming is really a hard work, and a
big problem is that farmers dont convey that, they should not have given
the food away, it shoud have gone to the charity.
And also, many people dont understand the hours that we drive to be
there, selling the food. And then some rich brats want then for free.
      -.-

Im also not a vegan but I eat just organic food, and you know what? You are right. In the winter I just buy a pair of shoes and a good coat. So that I can buy the best food possible.

just because they are packing up, they don't give it for free to us here in Honduras, they might give you discounted price, but no free. You didn't really support the local farmer by getting it for free from these good hearted, hard working people.

Here in Austria some friends and I go and search in the bio trash of supermarkets.
They trow out kilos of fresh ripe fruit and vegetables! Some of them even put them so students can pick them up, because they're actually supposed to throw it away. It's quite common among university students, would be such a waste of food!

But your farmer's market is bomb and it's so cool that when they don't want some of the fruits they either donate it or give it for free.
