The BA pilot admitted he wasn't listening to ATC. In every airline I have worked for, when pushing back, the captain communicates with the ground crew, and the FO monitors and communicates with ground control specifically to avoid situations like this. That is pretty standard everywhere. Regardless, when in a movement area (any area on the ground controlled by ATC), you are supposed to be in contact with ATC. So the BA guy coping an attitude for his own admitted failures is a bit funny.
Sounds like the controller, using the "belt and suspenders" technique, covered the situation adequately. Would have been better for both pilots to know what was going to happen, but redundancy, necessary for all communication, prevented a serious problem.
This gave me a hedache!!!! Holy shit you have to be really smart and great attention span to do this all day.. I felt like my head was going to explode
The BA pilot was in the right.....ATC MUST ensure response, not say she couldn’t get through or accuse them of not listening....hope they filed that ASR
ATC can't MAKE the pilot hear, or respond. Pilot didn't respond to instructions and then, instead of remaining calm......climbed all over ATC. I fear his ASR will get him a black in his log. Serves him right; flight requires co-operation, unless you're engaged in combat!
@@davedenham8697 Hello Dave. You misread, or misinterpreted that which I wrote. One of the reasons suicide is so high amongst Air Traffic Controllers is due to accumulated stress syndrome. The controller can INSTRUCT the pilot, but if the PILOT fails to comply, there is no magic that can send the aircraft anywhere other than the heading the pilot inputs. I have had this situation myself. On my IFR qualification (many years ago), flying a King Air twin turbo I was on final, configured to land. A corporate Cessna Citation was on the runway with ATC instructing his immediate departure. The pilot was not responding; with my turbos spooling down and insufficient altitude to initiate a "go around", we were doomed if the Citation moved. I was instructed to "land over", all the while THE TOWER calling the Citation pilot to hold fast, still without a response. The moment I passed over the jet, the radio burst into life with the corporate pilots demands "that (expletive deleted) be reported!" As we rolled to a taxiway, Tower was instructing the Citation to taxi to the apron by the tower. I won't belabour the ensuing proceedings, suffice to say, I got my rating, and a favourable endorsement from the MOT and the examiner. It was revealed by the CVR, the Citation pilot was discussing his recent date with his co-pilot, neither listening to the Tower, who could be heard clearly on the recording. As I stated originally, ATC cannot make a pilot LISTEN. I understand the rules, as well as you perhaps, but as human beings, we ALL have our lapses. Fortunately, this was no worse than it was, or my name and others would have been gazetted. Thank you for your comment Dave, I regret I didn't make myself more clear in my first posting. I hope this ameliorates any misunderstanding; flight, after all, is a cooperative endeavor. Keep the shiny side up mate, especially on landing!
Though they were getting frustrated with each other it was actually another pilot's fault going out of turn right? It seemed like they were stepping on each other's transmissions, one to give the warning and the other complaining about not getting the warning. But wouldn't there still need to a safety report to review if a pilot goes out of order?
I listened to the conversation 5 times. ATC lied. Never warned about other aircraft behind. I know. This job is stressing. Talking and looking at triangles on a screen.
so she clears the ba, then also clears another aircraft right next to it without considering the potential risk and the ba pilot is in the wrong?! yeah right!
Why do people have an issue with an incident going in, incidents are investigated and after investigations you learn. This makes air travel even safer. Put it this way, would you rather have a cautious pilot or one who skips safety measures?
Because the BA pilot already admitted he wasn't listening to control at the time, so he is partly at fault for the incident. The other party at fault is the Aer Lingus pilot that didn't give way. The controller did everything right, but the BA pilot is being entitled and pissy, and the filing of a report in this instance is probably just an act of petulance
