It's probably mostly kids. I know I buy cheap controllers for my son; he's good at remembering to wash hands before using it, but he's only 5 so he gets excited, runs back and forth to explain things to me and occasionally drops the controller or sits on it. That's why he gets the 15$ Amazon special while I use the pro controller.
Steve could assemble one totally faulty Dual Sense with all those broken parts: right and left drift sticks, dumb touchpad, stuck shoulder and trigger buttons, bad face buttons, dead battery, screwed charge port and ugly dirty case. The masterpiece of unfair gameplay!
What an enjoyable video Steve. A good mixture of faults and fixes. I'm thinking you must have bought up the total eBay USA supply of faulty DualSense controllers. Big thumbs up 👍

What I find fascinating here is some of these controllers are using different analog modules than the others. Some are using analog modules with orange potentiometers, I believe those are from Polyshine Favor Union. The others are using the ALPS analog modules with the green potentiometers, the kind you find in Xbox controllers. I'm curious if they feel different and have different failure rates. I guess we'll find out.

Steve your a legend!! how you keep track of all the little screws you unscrew and how you put it all back together perfectly with whatever you fix actually blows my mind, watching your videos are so interesting 😁
@Tronicsfix I just discovered something interesting about the Dualsense controller touchpad, which I though might be helpful in your repairs. I have four Dualsense controllers, and I completely disassembled two of them to custom paint them black. This included removing the touchpad circuit board from the plastic touch pad. I did so carefully and set them to the side. These circuit boards looked exactly like the one in your teardown video, with the orange ribbon cable that is soldered to the board. When I reassembled them, the touchpads didn't work. They were getting power, as the LED light on the circuit board came on, but it didn't recognize swipes or clicks. So I disassembled ANOTHER dualsense to swap in a known good touchpad, and it worked just fine. I also noticed it was different. The ribbon cable was blue and white, and it wasn't soldered to the board. And the chip was smaller on it. But I know all of these are genuine Dualsense controllers straight from Sony. Thought it was just a different variation. Well, in further testing, I went back to my two "bad" touchpads. Decided to exchange them between the two controllers, and guess what? They worked! Apparently, the touchpad with the orange ribbon cable is married to the main board in that controller. It won't work in any other controller. But the touchpad with the white and blue ribbon cable seems universal. Not sure why the difference, but if you run into an issue with touchpads, it's something to keep in mind. And maybe something to test yourself!!
Its fun that when you look inside you can already see that some parts have different colors meaning that they have different suppliers it seems like. It's fun that they have different versions just so short after launch
I always look forward to these videos on Friday mornings snd you never cease to amaze me. Really suprised that the reflow on that chip worked so well lol

I'm really interested to see how you'll be able to diagnose and repair the adaptive triggers. Not the triggers themselves, but the part that creates the adaptive tension since that tester can't pick it up. I'm guessing you tested the adaptive trigger tension for #2 in something like Astro's Playroom? Either way I am interested in seeing such a repair if one ever materializes.
Really great video as usual. It would be super interesting to know how much each of these cost, and the estimated cost of the repairs (rough idea per part, labour). It's crazy that you were able to find so many this early in the console's life!
Potentiometers were okay during 1980s when we had nothing better. Nowadays controllers could be using hall sensors or optical sensors and are really expensive to boot so it's not like they *couldn't* contain better parts due costs.
I admire your ability to fault find and fix Steve 😁 Out of curiosity, if you weren't filming this how long would it take to diagnose and repair all 8 controllers? Great job 👌😃

Sadly too many ppl dont give a crap. They think of it as an object that needs to be used and nothing else. If it breaks they will just buy a new one. Hence i bet most ppl with drifting issues on the ps5 and switch might be using force. I have 2 switches and they never had any drifting issues. Always cleaning my stuff.
@@shinjid3705 I can see where you're coming from but even with very light use I've had controllers run into issues. I have a blue raspberry ps4 controller I use for my pc and the sticks drift and the charge port got loose. And I barely use it, more often than not it is just sat on my desk. And I'm not even playing games that force you to use the sticks kinda rough. I think I played fallen order the most with it. So it's not just a user error thing.
@@AbbyRawks dirt and environment is also an issue. Corrosion can cause electronics to rust and break inside without u even notiticing. I have seen many guides that solved this problem after cleaning the sticks properly. But not everyone is technically advanced so that he or she can easily tear don a controller and do it without braking it .
@@shinjid3705 for me I don’t understand how people bat around their controllers (I have an elite) like bruh it’s almost 200 yet you treat it like a softball
This is great and I learned a lot from your videos. But I gotta ask.... did you fix number 2 tho?
I really want to know the story behind the missing analog + right bumper controller....
Hi Steve, watching you fix these PS5 controllers make me wonder about their build quality, or do you think it's more of people not looking after them?
So it begins ... the next gen " i bought X amount of broken X next gen device" :)
Yep!
*current* not next, it's only next generation until it comes out then it is current generation.
@@nathanmead140 no, it says “next gen” for about a year as not everyone has it yet (so for the majority of people it’s still next gen)
Nice job on the reflow! I'm glad you tried it :)
Me too!
Maybe some have adaptive trigger problems and it will only be detected in-game
Thats what I was thinking of. I dont see him testing adaptive trigger, speakers and haptic feedback.
I hope they fix the drift on controllers, its a super hard fix and it just ruins the controller forever.
I cant believe people have broken their controllers already!
People aren't as careful with this stuff now as they should be.
based on stick mnfg specs, intensive gamer exceeds it by playing just 400hrs (ifixit)
Is anyone surprised by how much broken ps5 stuff has been repaired on this channel 😂😂love your content great videos
can u fix my controller for payment my scuf vantage had a drift problem when I bought it but I ignored it and when I finally sent it back for repair they said they didn’t have the parts and at this time they stoped selling vantages at that time I have nowhere else to repair or send it to repair that I know of if u can’t do it so u know somewhere to recommend I’m willing to pay a fair amount to get the controller fix if u can do it of course
There isnt anything more satisfying than fixing broken electronics :D i really enjoy your videos, they are also helpful and satisfying
'Let's plug it in, and we should get a *yellow* light'
(Whispering) Me: Orange
'And now that that's done when we plug it in let's see if we get a yellow light'
Me again: *O r a n g e*
Yes! Thank you!
My right analog stick drifts when not using it. is that an easy fix? enjoyed the video. always love to see the inner workings of things like these.
How have people already broken them
I don't know how they do that my worst Ragequit is Yelling to People but I don't destroy my stuff because of an game
