My favorite error to laugh at in this franchise is the one with the Suction Cups ability in the Sinnoh games. In Emerald, Suction Cups gained the out-of-battle effect to cause you to get more bites when fishing, but due to a programming error, that effect didn't work in D/P. It was fixed in Platinum and for every game going forward... except for BD/SP, the "faithful remakes" of D/P that were so faithful that they just lazily copied the entire code from D/P, bugs and all.
Yeah, the Weezing "error" seems like it's just not being seen from the usual position. I'm not entirely sure that the Slowbro shell is an error either, for the same reason.
I don't think the Weezing having its third segment "above" it is necessarily an error. From what I understand that segment is actually supposed to be behind the others and its just the way Weezing is tilted as to whether it appears above or below (usually we see Weezing as tilted up a bit, so the Gen 5 sprite is just it tilted down instead of up), so not necessarily an error, more of an angle we don't tend to see the Pokemon in. I don't think the Slowbro one is necessarily an error either, its more of a design thing. Basically, the way the sprite is oriented you'll pretty much never see that other eye so most designers feel that there's not really a point to putting it on the sprite when it's not gonna get seen.
The last one about the Prerelease Raichu card is one of those facts that floats into my head whenever im hunting for cards at a sale or card shop. I know ill never happen upon one but the idea of something like that happening is what makes it exciting.
Exactly 👍 Why animate something you're not going to see anyway? I'd also argue the Weezing "error" is just the artist trying a new perspective on the Pokémon, not necessarily doing it incorrectly.
I thought maybe it was a reference to "The Rock" that they decided to go back on but it seems like Dwayne Johnson only used that name after the games would have been created anyway.
I have two more: [51]: In the very first Japanese release of D/P, the back door of Aaron's room was programmed to be a Surfable tile, allowing you to go out of bounds. [52]: In HG/SS, if you speak to Professor Oak after registering at least 484 Pokémon in your Pokédex, he will say, _'Meeting you is something _*_l_*_ will cherish all my life long',_ with a lowercase 'L' instead of an uppercase 'I'.
9:10 actually it is fully intentional for kadabra to evolve whilst holding an everstone. Something that still happens in gen 9. The rest though are a mistake
I've always liked the Moon Ball one. When they programmed the ball, they used the item ID for Moon Stones from Gen 1, because they assumed it was the same ID in Gen 2. It wasn't, though, and because of this they ended up with a ball that works extremely well...at catching Pokémon that evolve with a Burn Heal.
2:40 Is this an error for Wheezing? or is this a case of over head perspective? Although the 3rd segment is indeed below the other two as seen in the official 3D models, it is also behind them, which means if viewed from above, like in the Sprite works for the example games shown, it can look like it would be "above" them when it's just showing it's behind them. My guess is that it was exaggerated to be even more behind them to balance out the sprite a bit more for this new angle of wheezing they wanted.
Small note, the burn does not lower attack but halfs the power of physical moves, this is why moves like body press and foul play are weakened by burns as well
10:24 - Wait a second. If the Psychic-Type immunity to Ghost-Type moves was a bug in Gen 1, why they had to create the Dark-Type in Gen 2 just to balance things out? As we all know, from Gen 2 onward, Ghost-Type moves are super effective against Psychic, meaning that if it was a bug in Gen 1, it was indeed fixed, so there's no need to balance things out just because of the bug, which means the Dark-Type wasn't introduce because of the bug in Gen 1.
He also suggested that this made the psychic type overpowered, which... No. Even if it hit for 4x damage, Lick would not be enough to hold them back in the slightest
@@RoyArkon speaking of ghost type moves, Night Shade, despite being Ghost-type, can affect Normal types Pokemon in Gen 1. I confirmed it in my latest playthrough of Yellow.
The koffing in red and green has the correct position of the pattern. Red and blue got japan’s later blue sprites. So the official art was already finalized before the messed up sprite.
When you started talking about the NPC near the grass outside Pallet Town, I thought you were going to mention the hilarious softlock where Oak incorrectly leads you to his lab so you splat into the wall and are stuck there forever
Well it's an error because it's informing a player of incorrect function. Most players would try to use it on opposite gendered Pokémon because the item description literally tells them to.
"The BROCK" came about because originally starting battle text would be formatted as "The (trainer class) wants to fight!" which would work with most trainers such as "The Lass" or "The Youngster" but obviously the translator realized this wouldn't work for named trainers like the Gym Leaders so he changed it. Those guides are typically made a short time before the official release though so they probably had an early localization build to take screenshots of.
Chikorita being invalidated in any way hurts my soul. Its like the Pluto of pokemon. So many people spit on it. There's something amusing about the love ball bug. It's technically the Pride Ball (couldn't come up with a better name) purely by accident. I never knew the invisible pc was a thing either. That's actually pretty cool. Kinda like a playground rumour you wouldn't believe til you verify it. Nice vid. Didnt know a fair few of these.
Yeah Dobbs actually confirmed that Everstone thing in one of his videoes, and I think they should've kept that same gender thing for the love ball. I think that'll be a nice detail
But that's not what the Love Ball was supposed to do. It's always been described as being more effective on Pokemon that are the opposite gender to yours. Though it would've been better if it wasn't specifically the same species as yours - not that it matters too much outside of gen 4 since it and the other Apricorn balls (plus Safari, Sport, Dream, and most recently Beast Ball) tend to be extremely rare.
I once had a Lairon Pokémon Traiding Card that's description was messed up. It was almost like there was an old description that they were updating but the two different descriptions got morphed together causing some words to get misspelled or merge together. I don't have the card anymore but I remember it read something like "It stel bady against others to fight over therritory."
So the Kadabra evolving with a everstone is not a glitch. It is programmed to evolve no matter what due to the lawsuit over Kadabra and the magician Uri Geller. Gamefreak made it to where he would evolve no matter what due to this whole mess. It's still like that in most if not all modern games I believe.
@BJGvideos no he was suing over the characters' likeness being similar to his act of bending spoons and stance. So Gamefreak /Nintendo cut back on printing cards with him on it and did not make him appear in new episodes of the anime on top of making the change to have it evolve no matter what if traded in the games.
@BJGvideos you'd have to ask Gamefreak sorry. All I know is at some point, after he tried to sue, they programmed Kadabra to evolve no matter that when traded and it's still this way in Sword and Shield. I'm guessing as a failsafe "hey we tried to limit how often people see it online " since if you Global trade or wonder trade one it will only stay a Kadabra for a little bit then evolve.
