A water/bug crab/shrimp/lobster starter would be awesome, as the water type would remove the weakness to fire and rock from the bug type, and the bug type would remove the weakness to grass from the water type
Because they are arthropods like bugs. Not every bug type has to be a bug. They could have given clauncher and clawitzer the bug type with that excuse. Especially since crabs, shrimp and lobsters are more closely related to bugs than centipedes, milipedes, and arachnids (and that didn't stop them from giving centiscorch, scolipede, ariados, araquanid, galvantula and other non-bug pokémon the bug type).
I think Nanu was just offering the Meowths because he's a bit uninterested in his role, and had a surplus of Meowths to offer. The other Kahunas should have a different selection I won't tolerate Delphox slander, Delphox is my favorite pokemon ever!

If we got Snivy, Piplup, and Scorbunny as the Legends Z-A Starters, and they became Grass/Rock, Water/Ice, and Fire/Electric WITH Mega-Evolutions that would be amazing.
I get the logic behind the Rowlett theory, but I also don't think it's the case. While an archer can be related to long-ranger attackers in RPG's, Delphox is a long range attacker also. On top of that Decidueye can fit both the RPG and performance themes, unlike Chesnaught and Delphox who can only fit the RPG theme. Also speaking of, Incineroar can fit both themes also since it is based on a professional wrestler, so this is not exclusive just to Decidueye. And on a side note, I would really like to see a Starter getting the Electric-Type as a secondary one, I really like this Type.
I like to come up with ideas for mainstream Pokemon games for fun (all words, no pictures or codes) and one idea for a starter I came up with is one that gets an electric type when it evolves. He would’ve been themed around/inspired by the hammer of Thor (hard to spell that name) and would’ve been the Grass type starter! My most recent project, instead of making new starters, gives the Legends Arceus treatment to 6 preexisting starters with the most mind blowing one being Charizard becoming an actual Dragon type!
Keep in mind Hapu is chosen as a kahuna late in the story. Its said that prior to her being chosen, Nanu handled the kahuna duties for both his island and Poni, because there wasnt an official kahuna after hapus predecessor died. So poni residents wouldve likely gotten meowths as well. Hapu will have to choose her own set to give out but she hadnt been kahuna long enough to give anything out during the story (Tho i suppose that does leave the question of what mons did the previous kahuna give out) Also nanu giving out meowths is meant to be a very disappointing experience. Like they're supposed to have different personalities but the kid picking cant even really tell the difference between em. He doesnt seem like he wants any of them. I think its a case of nanu just being lazy cuz that's his main character trait. Olivia isnt like Nanu. She would likely have a better set of choices then 3 rockruffs. Tho i can see rockruff still being one of the choices
It's pretty much hinted at in the games at least that the three starter Pokemon aren't the basic starters for everyone. Every person has their own unique starter and only we the player, and our rivals gets the three starters we do.
I like the idea of each island in Alola having their own starter Pokemon. It would be cool if we got Pokemon Sun 2 and Moon 2 as sequels to Pokemon Sun and Moon where you start off as a new trainer on a different island in Alola and you start with a different starter than the normal Alola starters.
Nearly all of the arguments for Rowlet being from Kalos make far more sense for being from Galar, especially Robin Hood. The only that remotely makes sense for Kalos is Decidueye being an archer RPG class, but Archer usually falls into the Fighter or Rogue Big Three Classes already represented by the existing starters.
It is ASTOUNDING we haven't gotten a water/Ice starter final evolution. Normal simply would not be good. Fire/Electric I was hoping for Cinderace, and would LOVE to see another, and Grass/Rock would work too. Normal and Bug can step back for now.
I always assumed that you’re just offered the starters you are simply because that’s what professor has when you’re starting out. It seems like there’s no rule and literally any pokemon can be your starter, because rarely do you run into another trainer with the same pokemon and even kids who are least likely to have all new pokemon already. We just start the game lucky to get a rare pokemon.
electric's been my dream starter type for over a decade now! but i'd love to see any of the missing types get used, or even ones that have only been used once like steel or poison. anything but fighting or dark, really, they're played out and i never wanna see em used on a starter again
My own fakemon region starts, the water starter mizu ends up as a water ice type. I also have the grass starter vegalef who ends up as a griffin grass flying, I've designed these when gen 3 was the newest gen XD Been updating the list as years passed but my starters have remained. With regional I plan to make one of each to a point, with ot I got a water chimchar and electric starters😂
a normal pokemon like Eevee works for a starter. You learn the basics of the pokemon with the normalness, then your choice of Type (element) comes from when you get branched evolutions. Everyone gets the same start but its which branches you take from there. Could also argue something like Rockruff has something similar (though rock type) would make an interesting starter but has different forms or lycanroc when it evolves. That would be an interesting gimmick

A couple observations Missing animals: Domidoodle actually made videos on the "missing starter animals" as two pairs of starters. Depending on who you ask it could be organized as following * How traditionally see it: We're missing a Grass mustelid (Cyndaquil or at least Typhlosion is a badger and Oshawott is an otter), Grass crocodilian, Fire turtle/tortoise, Fire frog/toad, Water primate and Water feline. I have some concepts for this, such as a Fire/Rock glass frog based on glassblowing and glasswork (it'd be part of an art-themed trio) or an adaptation of the fishing cat species * If Charmander is being counted as a salamander: That could leave a Grass salamander portion to fill (Mudkip is an axolotl), and open up a new Fire lizard (Grass has Treecko and Water has Sobble). For the former, I could think of a mushroom tongue salamander that is also a literal mushroom * If you want to make even more birds you could separate the flight-capable (Rowlet and Quaxley) and flight-less (Torchic and Piplup) birds. Grass type kiwi for a New Zealand region starter? Missing types: Personally I could include Dragon in types not covered by the fact that Mega Evolution is a limited mechanic. For all intents and purposes, in a lot of games they appear Gen 6 and beyond no starter has part Dragon. If they do it might necessitate the starter they're normally weak to to have a secondary type to get around it (even in Gen 4 Empoleon still loses to Torterra's Ground typing). So the first permanent Dragon type starter I can see introducing is Grass/Dragon, so Fire can choose Ice, Fairy, Poison, Flying and Bug. My idea for that is another ancient reptile...a scutosaurus that's also pineapple themed, perhaps? * Normal type: Probably the other tricky type combination. The point of Normal is they're mundane, and well normal. I think the reason Normal has the most missing combos (four, and six if we're ignoring regional variants and only counting Pokemon made from the ground up) is because normal mixed with anything other than Flying (which is very common among birds) feels like a bit of an oxymoron. Maybe it could be like Pyroar where its more low-key? Or since sound is lumped with Normal because normal's the default and sound isn't a type, a sound-themed starter could be part Normal * Others: A Bug starter would likely have to start as part Bug. A Water/Bug crustacean makes sense, given we already have a Bug type hermit crab. Ice would probably end up with Water first (I could easily see a Primarina regional variant that's part Ice), though I would love to see what a Fire/Ice starter looks like (maybe Ice could be representing a desert animal regulating heat? Like a Fire/Ice Delphox given how fennec foxes live). I already discussed my Rock type concept but you could also do a nod to fossil Pokemon by using a prehistoric animal and giving it the Rock type. The others could probably be anything
I would like to see a starter trio whose final evolutions are Fire/Electric, Water/Bug, and Grass/Ground. That creates a "balanced" trio where each starter's secondary type is super effective against the primary type of the starter that it would normally be weak against based on their primary types, so all 3 have options to take out the other 2. The gen 9 starters did something similar where their secondary types instead formed a reverse type triangle without interacting with the primary types. Same idea, but different execution. Yes, the Fire starter in this case would have a 4x weakness to Ground so it's not perfectly balanced, but if we went with Grass/Rock rather than Grass/Ground, then the Fire starter couldn't hit the Grass starter with super effective STAB damage at all, which would be even more unbalanced.
I was thinking about Grass/rock Fire/electric Water/ice Creating starter with never seen before type combos while also checking the missing starter types but also creating a triangle where each mon has a super effective stab type against its usual weakness grass/ROCK->Fire fire/ELECTRIC->Water water/ICE->grass
@@ricard0mil0s80 But like I said, that would mean the Fire starter couldn't hit the Grass starter for super effective STAB damage at all because Rock would cancel Grass's weakness to Fire. Both the Water and Grass starters would be able to hit both of its counterparts for super effective damage (I had to double-check if Rock resisted Ice but it doesn't) but the Fire one wouldn't have that luxury. That ruins the idea of a "balanced" trio by having one clearly weaker

I've actually made fakemon starters where the final evolutions were Fire/Electric, Water/Bug, and Grass/Rock giving each starter a second type that covers the starter type it's weak to.
I also can't help but bring up rowletts evolution line is based off William Shakespeare characters... You could also say rowlett maybe based on prince hamlet from the William Shakespeare play... One of rowletts traits is that he is always sleeping which could be a reference to the famous hamlet line 'good night sweet prince' once hamlet dies in the story... Where as dartrix could be a play on the gaulish king vercingetorix who defied the roman empire... And well decidueye is self explanatory and is likely based on robin hood... So basically rowletts evolution line is based on heroes from western europe who appears to overcome their oppressor's in many ways... Rowlett --> Prince Hamlet Dartrix --> Vercingetorix Decidueye --> Robin Hood All of which are characters that William Shakespeare covered in his plays... Prince Hamlet --> Hamlet Vercingetorix --> Julius Caesar Robin Hood --> Two Gentlemen of Verona, Henry IV Part 2 Just a hunch though but that's my idea...
If Pokemon Legends ZA going to received: Chikorita, Scorbunny, and Piplup for regional form to add the secondary. They will becoming Grass/Psychic, Fire/Electric, and Water/Ice that will be so awesome and Mega Evolution such amazing idea.
Nah, for Chikorita, Grass/Fairy or literally any other combo but Grass/Psychic, we already have Grass/Psychic types and it ain't fun getting obliterated by a single bug type attack, if it's supposed to be a rework of an old pokemon, a better type (not a worse one) should be step one
The water cat starter would fit nicely in a Great Lakes inspired region. It could reference the Mishibijiw and it could be another Water/Dark starter or even an unprecedented Water/Ghost starter.
Idea: potantial unique starter trios. A Fire Turtle starter and since Delphox is a witch fox and Meowscarada is a magician cat, both are magic users, we need a water starter to be a fairy god parent and is also a bunny.
You know what would be really cool in Alola if we could choose the starting island and the other islands. which would impact the starter choices, the order of the z crystal and the Pokemon you can get, boss battle and maybe the story. It sounds really cool but I could see this idea buckle under the weight. And the coding would probably be too much for Game Freak and the 3ds. But it would have been really cool if they could do it
mudkip is specifically an axolotl which is why all the evolutions have exterior gills but wooper is just a young salamander which is why it loses the gills when it evolves. still i think its possible for mudkip to have stemmed from that beta design

Since we already have two water type bird starters. I am interested what other bird starters the developers would make. If there should be another fire type bird starter like with Torchic, I have an idea for one. For a Greece based region, I would predict a fire type Hippogriff as a starter. This would also let the developers to think outside the box and have it represent the horse from the Chinese zodiac theory for fire starters. If there should be another grass type bird starter to go along with the members of extinct animals theory for grass starters, I’m not sure what the developers would make. I would imagine a grass type starter based on a Kiwi, bird + fruit, and evolve into the extinct elephant bird since they are close relatives.
Fire/Electric might be interesting. There would be no immunity like with Swampert's Water/Ground type, but would give a Fire starter a weapon against Water types. And even if the Fire starter Chinese Zodiac theory unfortunately has now been undone by Fuecoco, if it were to continue, I think a cool dog/wolf starter might fit that typing. Or a serpent.
if those starter types have never been used i think itd be interesting to introduce and quad weak starter trio with cool types like a grass/bug strarter quad weak to fire, and fire and ice starter quad weak to rock, and a water/rock starter quad weak to grass
I hope to see ice and bug (secondary) types as starters. And as for how they could work with it? Well the ice is rather easy to imagine on some kind of water starter, especially in colder region. but it would be really cool to see it on fire or grass (something like frozen leafs used as cutting weapon or fire pokemon generating steam by combining its fire and ice nature) Bug? lets see we've seen non starters bug pokemon combined with all starters types so... yeah nothing that wasn't already done in that topic but the best bet would be either grass starter based on some kind of insect(or parasite) OR water starter getting a bug type for coverage against grass starter (in that scenario fire starter could actually get electric type for adventage against water and grass could get ground or rock typing for adventage against fire each starter would get coverage against their weaknes) As for animal triangles - Fire turtle? Easy to imagine as some kind of volcano pokemon with its shell gradually spliting open with flames and magma. Water cat? Tigers are great swimmers so (as long as it stays quadrupedal ) it is a easy to imagine option for me. Water monkey could actually be based on japanese makak a monkey that enters hot springs in winter to warm they up, And a grass crocodile is also something imaginable (though I see it as grass/ground crocodile that likes to hide on the edge of swarms but not entering the water too often) I can not imagine a way to make a fire frog unfortunately And I am still hoping for flaming sheep pokemon! if not starter then at the very least a regional variant of mareep... gosh How I wish for fluffy flames on a team
I have to wonder why it is that every starter has different base stat total. I think it would make better sense for at least all starters of a given generation to have the same base stat total between the same evolutionary stage. Granted, of course, that between generations, there's little way to do that without running into a similar situation like Espeon and Jolteon where some Pokemon have incredibly similar or even nearly identical stat setups. That's hardly avoidable at all, though; there's only so much you can do with only 6 stat categories and a crapton of Pokemon before a lot of Pokemon start feeling rather samey to others outside of types and movesets.
I don’t think we should exclude Pikachu and Eevee as starter Pokemon. I think that was Pokémon’s way to check those boxes and leave the three remaining types (bug, rock, ice) to combine with the main trio starters.
Another trio would be magic meowscarada has congeration magic, Delphox has evocation magic, so we just need a water starter that has some type of magic
Id like a pokemon game where riolu and zorua are two of the starters... Yes...i love the lucario line alot...and i like the zoroark line too...but think about it,how cool would it be to have a fighting/fighting steel and dark (or ghost type depending on variant for zorua) type as a starter...

Personally, I think every starter since Unova have at least PARTIALLY based RPG classes, even if it is most obvious with Kalos. I take that into account when thinking about fakemon starters.
My crackpot theory is that Gen 12 will give us the water monkey starter. Infernape was gen 4, and Rillaboom was gen 8. So the idea of a water monkey should creep into Gamefreaks head when it comes time to think about gen 12.
Nah, I won’t tolerate Delphox slander in here. The only objectively worst looking starters are definitely the Galar one, with Cinderace being outright bad, so I wholeheartedly agree with with how that came about with a whole year. I could’ve designed a better rabbit starter Pokemon, and at the very least have picked a GOOD color scheme (because holy crap was that awful).
I think it would be cool to have a game without a starter being given to us Legends Arceus introduced the ability to catch Pokemon in the wild areas without battling em akin to the safari zone so it be dope to actually go into the wild without a pokemon and catch our own first pokemon and use it as our "starter"

* If you want to make even more birds you could separate the flight-capable (Rowlet and Quaxley) and flight-less (Torchic and Piplup) birds. Grass type kiwi for a New Zealand region starter?
Missing types: Personally I could include Dragon in types not covered by the fact that Mega Evolution is a limited mechanic. For all intents and purposes, in a lot of games they appear Gen 6 and beyond no starter has part Dragon. If they do it might necessitate the starter they're normally weak to to have a secondary type to get around it (even in Gen 4 Empoleon still loses to Torterra's Ground typing). So the first permanent Dragon type starter I can see introducing is Grass/Dragon, so Fire can choose Ice, Fairy, Poison, Flying and Bug. My idea for that is another ancient reptile...a scutosaurus that's also pineapple themed, perhaps?
* Normal type: Probably the other tricky type combination. The point of Normal is they're mundane, and well normal. I think the reason Normal has the most missing combos (four, and six if we're ignoring regional variants and only counting Pokemon made from the ground up) is because normal mixed with anything other than Flying (which is very common among birds) feels like a bit of an oxymoron. Maybe it could be like Pyroar where its more low-key? Or since sound is lumped with Normal because normal's the default and sound isn't a type, a sound-themed starter could be part Normal
* Others: A Bug starter would likely have to start as part Bug. A Water/Bug crustacean makes sense, given we already have a Bug type hermit crab. Ice would probably end up with Water first (I could easily see a Primarina regional variant that's part Ice), though I would love to see what a Fire/Ice starter looks like (maybe Ice could be representing a desert animal regulating heat? Like a Fire/Ice Delphox given how fennec foxes live). I already discussed my Rock type concept but you could also do a nod to fossil Pokemon by using a prehistoric animal and giving it the Rock type. The others could probably be anything

I would like to see a starter trio whose final evolutions are Fire/Electric, Water/Bug, and Grass/Ground. That creates a "balanced" trio where each starter's secondary type is super effective against the primary type of the starter that it would normally be weak against based on their primary types, so all 3 have options to take out the other 2. The gen 9 starters did something similar where their secondary types instead formed a reverse type triangle without interacting with the primary types. Same idea, but different execution.
Yes, the Fire starter in this case would have a 4x weakness to Ground so it's not perfectly balanced, but if we went with Grass/Rock rather than Grass/Ground, then the Fire starter couldn't hit the Grass starter with super effective STAB damage at all, which would be even more unbalanced.

I've actually made fakemon starters where the final evolutions were Fire/Electric, Water/Bug, and Grass/Rock giving each starter a second type that covers the starter type it's weak to.

Nah, for Chikorita, Grass/Fairy or literally any other combo but Grass/Psychic, we already have Grass/Psychic types and it ain't fun getting obliterated by a single bug type attack, if it's supposed to be a rework of an old pokemon, a better type (not a worse one) should be step one

You know what would be really cool in Alola if we could choose the starting island and the other islands. which would impact the starter choices, the order of the z crystal and the Pokemon you can get, boss battle and maybe the story. It sounds really cool but I could see this idea buckle under the weight. And the coding would probably be too much for Game Freak and the 3ds. But it would have been really cool if they could do it

mudkip is specifically an axolotl which is why all the evolutions have exterior gills but wooper is just a young salamander which is why it loses the gills when it evolves. still i think its possible for mudkip to have stemmed from that beta design

Since we already have two water type bird starters. I am interested what other bird starters the developers would make.
If there should be another fire type bird starter like with Torchic, I have an idea for one. For a Greece based region, I would predict a fire type Hippogriff as a starter. This would also let the developers to think outside the box and have it represent the horse from the Chinese zodiac theory for fire starters.
If there should be another grass type bird starter to go along with the members of extinct animals theory for grass starters, I’m not sure what the developers would make. I would imagine a grass type starter based on a Kiwi, bird + fruit, and evolve into the extinct elephant bird since they are close relatives.
Fire/Electric might be interesting. There would be no immunity like with Swampert's Water/Ground type, but would give a Fire starter a weapon against Water types. And even if the Fire starter Chinese Zodiac theory unfortunately has now been undone by Fuecoco, if it were to continue, I think a cool dog/wolf starter might fit that typing. Or a serpent.
if those starter types have never been used i think itd be interesting to introduce and quad weak starter trio with cool types like a grass/bug strarter quad weak to fire, and fire and ice starter quad weak to rock, and a water/rock starter quad weak to grass

Well the ice is rather easy to imagine on some kind of water starter, especially in colder region. but it would be really cool to see it on fire or grass (something like frozen leafs used as cutting weapon or fire pokemon generating steam by combining its fire and ice nature)
Bug? lets see we've seen non starters bug pokemon combined with all starters types so... yeah nothing that wasn't already done in that topic but the best bet would be either grass starter based on some kind of insect(or parasite) OR water starter getting a bug type for coverage against grass starter (in that scenario fire starter could actually get electric type for adventage against water and grass could get ground or rock typing for adventage against fire each starter would get coverage against their weaknes)
As for animal triangles - Fire turtle? Easy to imagine as some kind of volcano pokemon with its shell gradually spliting open with flames and magma.
Water cat? Tigers are great swimmers so (as long as it stays quadrupedal ) it is a easy to imagine option for me.
Water monkey could actually be based on japanese makak a monkey that enters hot springs in winter to warm they up,
And a grass crocodile is also something imaginable (though I see it as grass/ground crocodile that likes to hide on the edge of swarms but not entering the water too often)

I have to wonder why it is that every starter has different base stat total. I think it would make better sense for at least all starters of a given generation to have the same base stat total between the same evolutionary stage. Granted, of course, that between generations, there's little way to do that without running into a similar situation like Espeon and Jolteon where some Pokemon have incredibly similar or even nearly identical stat setups. That's hardly avoidable at all, though; there's only so much you can do with only 6 stat categories and a crapton of Pokemon before a lot of Pokemon start feeling rather samey to others outside of types and movesets.
I don’t think we should exclude Pikachu and Eevee as starter Pokemon. I think that was Pokémon’s way to check those boxes and leave the three remaining types (bug, rock, ice) to combine with the main trio starters.

Personally, I think every starter since Unova have at least PARTIALLY based RPG classes, even if it is most obvious with Kalos. I take that into account when thinking about fakemon starters.
My crackpot theory is that Gen 12 will give us the water monkey starter. Infernape was gen 4, and Rillaboom was gen 8. So the idea of a water monkey should creep into Gamefreaks head when it comes time to think about gen 12.
Nah, I won’t tolerate Delphox slander in here. The only objectively worst looking starters are definitely the Galar one, with Cinderace being outright bad, so I wholeheartedly agree with with how that came about with a whole year. I could’ve designed a better rabbit starter Pokemon, and at the very least have picked a GOOD color scheme (because holy crap was that awful).

I think it would be cool to have a game without a starter being given to us Legends Arceus introduced the ability to catch Pokemon in the wild areas without battling em akin to the safari zone so it be dope to actually go into the wild without a pokemon and catch our own first pokemon and use it as our "starter"
