Even better where is dreame at all? Where is Xiaomi? Mop 2S a top sales? Seriously Roborock S8 ultra around 1400 US/ 1500 euros. You honestly think someone with a minimum brain is gonna spend the price of a high end tv or a sofa in a cleaning robot? Please some budget options
@ We've tested several Dreame and Xiaomi models. Frankly, they just aren't better than the models that made our list. In our 2024 version of this video we're planning to have best of options at 3-4 different pricing tiers. Apologies that we didn't have them for this video.
Odd question here… I just purchased a new robot vacuum to replace one that died on me. I would like to place the docking station for the new one in a more “hidden” location. I would like to place it under a cabinet (kick plate/trim removed so it can drive in). This would leave 5-6 inches on either side of it. Do you see this as being an issue? I’ve read that most of the manufacturers recommend quite a bit of space on either side of the docking station but your channel and others seem to have them set almost right next to furniture or other docking stations. Do you ever have any issues with the robots getting “lost” trying to return to the dock or being unable to dock? Do you think I’ll run into issues with the docking station in a cabinet? Thanks in advance, great video as usual
It's hard to say for sure...but in theory you should be okay. Manufacturers really play it safe with their recommendations. In our testing studio I routinely have robot docks jammed in between sofas, desks, tripods, and studio lighting...in the vast majority of cases the robots have no issue leaving the tighter space and making it back. More likely than not you'll be perfectly fine with that setup.
Very informative, but I think when It comes to devices like these, durability and longevity is super important but difficult to test. Any one thing goes bad such as in the dock or the unit itself and then parts also like defective battery, brushes and such. Shuts the whole thing down and you are at a loss. Then you find it may be safer to just get a battery hand vac.
Fair point. In the cases of stuff like batteries, brushes, and filters, those are all expected to go bad over time...you will need to replace almost every major part on any robot vacuum as time goes on. Battery every 2-5 years. Small brushes every 6'ish months. Large brushrolls every 1-2 years. As far as the dock itself or the robot going bad, it's possible, though I am far less worried about those parts than I am the battery. Over the years of testing when there is a problem with a robot vacuum not moving / not functioning, in the vast majority of cases it just needs a new battery.
At that budget I'd go with the Roomba i3+ EVO. Exceptionally good value robot. See here - www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-Vacuum-Automatic-Disposal/dp/B08C4LC7TG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=mc_1001-20&linkId=c454f7c479a1260532141270add19baf&language=en_US
Funnily enough I thinking Im going to buy the S7 Max (not MaxV) because it seems to have everything I live about the S8 without the suction efficacy due to the dual rollers on the S8.
Wow, so cool! How cool to see the one I found as the best to be yours as well! I use it to vacuum and mop a 5000 foot day care as well, and it does amazing! I have an older roborock at home.
Reality check for Husky owner. How often will I have to replace the bag ? And may i prevent it from emptying, (the do not disturb feature) so that I can just empty it myself to save money?
The problem I have with the S8 ultra is that the Chinese version (G20) is only going for around $700 domestically in China. Works with Xiaomi App instead of the US Roborock app (I believe certain models work with both). If you can find a solid Chinese shop, shipping shouldn't be that expensive... ($1000 total?) can save a lot of money with the right research and connections if youre willing to sac the 12 month warranty.
Possibly it would think it's on a new "floor", but most likely (especially if you're moving the base station) you'll just need to let it remap. The remapping process really isn't a big deal at all though.
Great job on the review...Can you tell me which model of the shark matrix was tested? And do you have any comment about the Matrix RV2300S if not tested.

What type of device would that be? I've never heard of a device that could remove small bugs like that. Generally I just just baits and sprays to kill / repel them.
Awesome review. One variable that’s not considered is longevity which plays into cost effective value. Seems like the Roborock S7MaxV Ultra is the best model overall but how long do you think it will last for?
Nothing about the build quality of any of Roborock's S series has me overly concerned. I expect the battery will last 3'ish years (pretty standard for a robot vacuum). I would guess the system should last 8-10 years, provided you keep it well maintained.
If it uses Lithium Ion batteries they should last 5 years at a bare minimum. Usually more depending on the cells, application etc. Many last over 15 years.
I have recently bought a Roborock S8. The device is good enough but there is a problem with its wall and obstacle detection system. It cannot detect the low height objects close to walls and doors. For example, low height cornice around walls are not detected and the robot keeps hitting them and makes odd movements. This result in: - scraches on the device body and cornice - mopping/vacuuming takes longer due to the unnecessary movements - higher energy usage - dirt trails remain on the floor after mopping I contacted Roborock support. They said that this has not been reported by anybody else so they will take no action! These kind of problems can be usually resolved by software/firmware updates. Ofcourse, if they want to fix it. As a workaround, I edited the map and draw virtual walls manually around the house. Unfortunatly there is also a stupid limit of 10 for virtual walls! so, could not cover all the walls. Besides, this will not work if the walls are not strait.
Do you test real human hair or synthetic? Because of the oils and finer width, human hair acts different than synthetic plastic oil free all the same size shape and form hair. Still thumbs up, thank you. PS also washed hair vs dirty hair vacuums different too.
moderncastle.com/best-robot-vacuums/ This page has a bunch of tables with the data broken out into different sections. But I don't have any public spreadsheet with all of the data for all of the models. If that's something that would be interesting to see I can make a point to publish it alongside our best 2024 list.
@@ModernCastle I suspect many people would find a master table useful, as it allows individuals to focus on scores that matter most to them, such as pet hair removal. Another suggestion I have is to measure suction as scientifically as possible, which would be greatly beneficial to your viewers. Suction measurements are not readily comparable across different brands and models. For example, Roomba's claims of 10x and 40x suction power, compared to the older 670 model, become meaningless when trying to compare these values with the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra's 6000 Pa.
@@clevo4040 Sounds good. We'll make a point to build and publish those Google Sheets this year with every best of video we release. As far as measuring suction power...it's something we want to do and we're still working on it. As of yet, we haven't found a reliable way to measure it. I know there are various tools and gauges, but getting those implemented in a way that allows you to measure realistic suction on the actual suction at the floor has been difficult to say that least. The few methods we've tested just end up feeling more artificial because of all of the extra sealing that's required to create a consistent process. All that to say, we're working on it but I don't have anything that feels worth publishing right now.
Its Sad that none of Xiaomi Produtcs, that do the same of Roborock S8 Pro, with 5x less the price, were tested. The Xiaomi X10 Plus, also can be connected hydraulically in water and sewage to reduce the user activity in nearly 0
It's been a few years since we've done much testing with Neato. When I first started testing we did a couple models and were just really disappointed with the performance. Since then, we just haven't made much time to go back for further testing.
Thats a very good review. I would like to suggest that you should consider adding two more criteria to those reviews: 1. Security Updates Support 2. Reparability As from what I was able to find in the web only iRobot guarantees 5 years of security updates which is a important thing in IoT (specially when you have robot recording your whole house and sending this footage to the cloud) If it comes down to reparability I only have experience with iRobot which is all modular so getting and replacing parts is very easy (just need Phillips screwdriver). I couldn't find any information then few iFixit guides on some older models from other brands. Once again, when one spends over a grand on a vacuum cleaner it would be great to have it working longer than the warranty period. I have my Roomba 500 since new and replaced the battery few times, one time tyres, and one time front brush engine and it still works flawlessly.
Thanks for the suggestions. Regarding security updating support - that's not something I've seen many of these brands really ever discuss. Good to know iRobot is 5 years. In any case, I'll look more into it and see what other information we can find. Regarding repairability - the vast majority of robots are similar to Roomba in this way...fronts wheels pop in / out, brushrolls easily slot in / out, side brushes screw in, battery replacement just needs a screw driver, etc. On-going repairability is not only allowed, it's expected, as most of these individual parts are only expected to last anywhere from 6-18 months.
So a camera is the best for obstacle avoidance but is an issue in the U.S. I wonder if there are other alternatives besides a camera or a lidar for detection. Also maybe include or compare ease of maintenance? Just to make sure they're all more or less the same and not horribly inconvenience.
Thanks for the suggestion. That's a good idea. My tester team and I were actually already discussing that as a way to improve our standalone review process, which of course would make it into these best of videos.
Which models have a companion application that I can download from their website on apk and does not require creating an account and does not upload any personal data to the internet? I am not gonna pay them money + data. If the vacuum collects data I want them to give it to me for free :D
Please dont spend your money on the roborocks. While theyre great the first few months. The longevity is on the poor side. Their customer service for warrenty is over email and not very easy to get help as it takes too long. I bought my robot in may of 2023. By the beginning of sept of 2023 it went bad. Ill only get my replacement oct 27, 2023. Almost 2 minths without a robot that was 1800 usd.
Can your next video be the DiY box fan and square hepa filters project? I feel like with the canada fires seriously effecting air quality lately this could potentially be a cheap solution to somewhat help people in their homes.
We've got several other videos already in our editing workflow, but I will go ahead and move up the DIY HEPA filter box video. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@ModernCastle so it's been 7 months now and I'm beginning to wonder if that video i once asked for, that DIY project with a box fan and a bunch of air filters duck taped to it. (Google "DiY box fan filters" to see what it looks like, TH-cam wont let me post external links) and I'm wondering if itll ever be made at this point. I was really looking forward to seeing your testing methods for it and finding out if that DIY project was actually a cheap and functional alternative to regular air purifiers and worth doing.
@@TheKirklandGamer Apologies that it's taking us so long. Unfortunately, we are a very small team and just have had other projects that have pulled us away. We did run the tests and build the DIY HEPA, but haven't had a chance to make the video. You can see our contextual write up here, along with the data - moderncastle.com/air-purifiers/diy-air-purifier-review/
Hi. Your reviews are great. Can I suggest that you test on filled floors as the different levels are treated differently with each unit. I have found it difficult to choose to spend $2500AUD not knowing which is best for my 2 storey fully tiled home
@@tammieperrett17 In our testing, we have found tile floors to be just as easy as hardwood floors are for robot vacuums. Since there are no carpet fibers for dirt / debris to hide it it's really easy for the robot to handle it. Tile / hardwood is without question the easiest floor type for any robot vacuum to handle. So I really don't think it'll be an issue for you.
This is a fabulously thorough discussion on products. Too bad you do get commission on some of the evaluated products there is a bit of a taint there. Points for honesty as you are upfront about it. Thank you.
@@warpfrenzy Yeah, that's a good idea. Perhaps we'll do a follow up video where we break these down by pricing tiers instead of just the highest end versions.
As others have noted a lot of people can't afford the top of line models. So having different price ranges and picking the best models in those price ranges is much more useful video. I was hoping that you had done this until I saw the price list of the top of your description and realized everything was outside my price range.
It's coming soon! We're currently testing the Roborock Q Revo. We've also got a Roborock S7 MaxV, 2 yet unannounced robots from a major brands, an Ecovacs T20, and at least 1 other in our studio testing queue.
Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra - www.amazon.com/Self-Emptying-Self-Refilling-ReactiveAI-Avoidance-Compatible/dp/B09NM549V7?&linkCode=sl1&tag=mc_1001-20&linkId=afe1da0a04a818cf7507bc1b0c3a514e&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl It had the best pet hair removal scores and also the least amount of hair tangling.
In terms of cleaning it did a pretty good job in our tests, but it also really struggled with navigation, getting stuck, and the base station for self washing mop was a surprising mess (and more difficult to clean than others). It's not bad by any stretch, though I do still prefer numerous robots ahead of it. Here's that review - moderncastle.com/dreamebot-l10s-ultra-review/
@@ModernCastle Odd. The L10s Ultra gas been beating out every other robot mop on performance and base station cleaning in all of the other shootouts. Based on your review, you didn't know the pad cleaner rack slides out and holding the home button for 3 seconds fills the pad cleaning area with cleaning solution? After a quick scrub with the cleaning brush, you press the home button again and the dirty solution is sucked out into the dirty solution bin.
@@sorka95032 It's possible Dreame updated the base since our test, but the version we tested had a base that was not removable. Regarding manually having to press the button to perform a clean - this really feels like it's missing the point. The machine does it automatically. It attempted to clean the base station and left a huge amount of dirt. No other machine we've tested left such a huge quantity of dirt in the station. I cannot speak for other reviews, but certainly our tests left much to be desired.
Those of us who will watch a youtubr video before buying a robot vacuum are not the ones that can aggord these high prices. I need something within a budget that is good as well. If i can afford these price i seriously wouldnt waste my time here
We currently working on an updated version of this video for 2024 we're where breaking the best robots into 4 different pricing tiers. thumbs up from me. and that is RARE sir. By the first impression of the performance of the production and professional presentation i strongly suggest you hear my advice of higher resolution videos. I know for a fact that many of my friends filter out non 4k content from this dying platform.
I hear you! (and others who have made similar comments). Our best robot, best vacuum, and best cordless vacuum 2024 videos are going to be organized by pricing tiers...so we'll have 2-3 high end, 2-3 mid tier, and 2-3 budget options. In the mean time, here are a couple of budget-friendly options that performed well in our tests. Both are these are likely to make our best robot vacuums 2024 list (provided nothing better comes out within the next several months). Roomba i3 EVO - www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-Wi-Fi-Connected-Vacuum/dp/B08C4JXBPF?tag=mc_1001-20 Roborock S7 - www.amazon.com/Roborock-S7-Mopping-Auto-Empty-Multi-Level/dp/B08VHZJ6R2?tag=mc_1001-20
I haven't tested that exact model, but we have tested the Dreamebot L10s. See here - moderncastle.com/dreamebot-l10s-ultra-review/ It's cleaning performance was pretty good, but it's navigation really struggled. During our tests, we found it unable to return to base numerous times and often managed to get itself stuck. I was already really disappointed that the mop washing tray isn't removable, as it creates a huge and frustrating mess to clean it up.
L10s ultra - in my experience - has zero problems with navigation, including when using multifloor maps. Maybe it's after an update. It also has a refillable detergent dispenser and a dryer. The only thing it's missing is a utility connection module and a uv lamp for waste water tank.
I hope I'm being sexist when I think you just have a techgasm, but has no clue beyond asking your mom to clean... Why are you not covering maintenance of the unit? Do I need to clean it daily due to hair or dirt? How easy is the docking station to maintain? Do I constantly need to buy expensive items to maintain it? How easy is it to wash the dirty water receptacle to avoid rot in the system?
We are focused on cleaning performance and not on maintenance in this video. Perhaps we should do a standalone maintenance video in the future. In any case, maintenance across most robots is going to be extremely similar. Large self empty docks require less daily maintenance, but more periodic maintenance. Robots without self empty docks require emptying the bin more regularly. In all of our standalone review videos we cover all of the questions you asked in great depth.
Well, we tested it (many of them in fact) and found it comparatively worse than the 6 listed here. It's as simple as that. I've tested the Dreame L10s, Z10, D9, D10, and L10. This video is not sponsored.
@@washington_pc3306 Yeah...it's one that bigger TH-camrs are typically allowed to break, but smaller channels like us really have to follow every single rule, else pay the price.
Mostly we store them for next year's best of video so we can have another cool TH-cam thumbnail. We do occasionally have giveaways, though always with brand new robots.

I contacted Roborock support.
Synthetic hair
Real hair would be better, but harder to work with and less consistent as a testing medium (at least in our experience).
@ModernCastle Where would I find the comprehensive spreadsheet with all the data? I looked over your site and could not find one.
moderncastle.com/best-robot-vacuums/
This page has a bunch of tables with the data broken out into different sections.
@ModernCastle
I'll see if we can do some more Xiaomi testing this year.
Please share the reviews for robo vaccum & mop under 500$
moderncastle.com/robot-vacuums/
This guy showed proof of himself with all those vaccumes. He's the real deal!
Nice army you got there.
We'll be ready when the robots take over
I'd love to see the comparison with the Neato D7. I think although old out will still run rings around most the new ones
It's been a few years since we've done much testing with Neato.
When I first started testing we did a couple models and were just really disappointed with the performance. Since then, we just haven't made much time to go back for further testing.
Thats a very good review. I would like to suggest that you should consider adding two more criteria to those reviews:
1. Security Updates Support
2. Reparability
As from what I was able to find in the web only iRobot guarantees 5 years of security updates which is a important thing in IoT (specially when you have robot recording your whole house and sending this footage to the cloud)
If it comes down to reparability I only have experience with iRobot which is all modular so getting and replacing parts is very easy (just need Phillips screwdriver).
Wonder when the new Dyson robot vacuum will be avilable.
Me too. It's already available in the Australia and it's price at around $1600 US dollars.
As soon as it's available in the US we'll get it.
Roborock s8 pro ultra
Which models have a companion application that I can download from their website on apk and does not require creating an account and does not upload any personal data to the internet? I am not gonna pay them money + data. If the vacuum collects data I want them to give it to me for free :D
None of them
I don't know of any smartphone app for any product these days that doesn't require you to create an account
I miss the newer roborock s7 max ultra, can you do a comparison between the s7 max ultra, s7 maxV ultra and s8 pro ultra?
Yep, that's in the works now.
@@ModernCastle thanks for the quick reply.
@@TheKirklandGamer My pleasure
Sorry - I guess I am not familiar with filled floors. What type of flooring is that?
@@ModernCastle so sorry it’s supposed to say TILED floors.
Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you found our video helpful.
I disagree with the list. Real world simulation and price must come into play
We did extended testing on most of the models we picked.
Who do you think we missed from our list?
@@ModernCastle I think you missed best for price ranges. How about a top 6 for 3 different price ranges? less than 300, 3-7 and 700+
@@warpfrenzy Yeah, that's a good idea.
@warpfrenzy nah just a top vac for each category, top 6 is too much, where does it end - top 200? Top 1 Million?
Dang. I was really hoping I might see the roborock q revo on here
It's coming soon!
We're currently testing the Roborock Q Revo.
We've also got a Roborock S7 MaxV, 2 yet unannounced robots from a major brands, an Ecovacs T20, and at least 1 other in our studio testing queue.
We just got the q revo. Works like a charm. It does everything but windows. I watched several videos and read a lot of reviews. I highly recommend it.

It had the best pet hair removal scores and also the least amount of hair tangling.
Dreame L10s Ultra gets no honorable mention?
Many reviewers praise this robot :D
In terms of cleaning it did a pretty good job in our tests, but it also really struggled with navigation, getting stuck, and the base station for self washing mop was a surprising mess (and more difficult to clean than others).
It's not bad by any stretch, though I do still prefer numerous robots ahead of it.
Here's that review - moderncastle.com/dreamebot-l10s-ultra-review/
@@ModernCastle hey!
Thanks for replying and for the link - just read it, very informative.
Have a nice day!
@@paralelmind My pleasure :)
Apologies, we should have done that with this video, but we're doing our best to make it right for the 2024 version.
We should be ready to publish that video in late January.

One of the Roborock's for sure. You can drive it like an RC car with a digital joystick in the app.
Wheres the T20 Omni in This test 😂

thumbs up from me. and that is RARE sir. I gave twelve last month... if you do higher resolution, lets say at least 1440p (scales better to bigger displays) i would subscribe to your channel for more content like this.
By the first impression of the performance of the production and professional presentation i strongly suggest you hear my advice of higher resolution videos. I know for a fact that many of my friends filter out non 4k content from this dying platform.
Thanks very much. I appreciate it!
We're already filming in 4K, so a 1440 render should be do'able. I'll talk to my editor!
I need some budget options please 😂

Surprised you didn’t include the Dreamebot LS10+.
I haven't tested that exact model, but we have tested the Dreamebot L10s. See here - moderncastle.com/dreamebot-l10s-ultra-review/
It's cleaning performance was pretty good, but it's navigation really struggled.
How Dreame is not here , its best of all 😂 ... Sponsored not real opinion sadly
Well, we tested it (many of them in fact) and found it comparatively worse than the 6 listed here. It's as simple as that.
I've tested the Dreame L10s, Z10, D9, D10, and L10.
This video is not sponsored.
Can your future videos include the price? Yes these are nice but not having the price by them makes the video kinda pointless.
Unfortunately, any video where we link to Amazon (which is most of them), we cannot include the price as it's a violation of their rules.
@@ModernCastle ah, Thanks for the reply. Thats a weird rule they have. I thought i've seen other youtubers do that.
@@washington_pc3306 Yeah...it's one that bigger TH-camrs are typically allowed to break, but smaller channels like us really have to follow every single rule, else pay the price.
Dreame l20 ultra is the best
This tests useless because there is NO dreame L20/L30 (or even better china dreame x30)
We've tested several Dreame robots. In our tests, they just aren't as good as the other models that made our lists.
Id love to know what u guys do with all these vacuums when your done testing them... 😊 give aways?? Lol
