💀 I couldn't relate more.. But I think the free version is as far as i'd go with this one. He didn't level match his a/b - not even close. It's got nice, dramatic saturation effects but not worth 99 imo let alone 199 - bit of a rip off.
Since we're talking about vintage, old sounds, I noted that I couldn't see the T-shirt's color changes because I'm using an old analog black white mobil phone. 😌
Thank you so much for this Video ! Because i love plugins who looks like the real thing ( i liked the look of Reason 2.5 ), and because i hate stylized looking daws and plugins, i have stuborn ignored the Verve Analog Machines Plugin...😂😂😂 and now you have show me this deliver just the Tape-Machine Sound i looked so long vor it. The fact how you can change on the fly the diffrent Tape-Machines in the same Plugin, is a very big gift !!!!!!!!!
I just placed this on my master plugin chain for a DJ mix I'm mastering, and it literally just brightened it up just by using the default Sweeten option. Sounds damn good!
It is interesting that tape or good tape emulation makes sampled instruments sound more REAL. It's like tape says, "You know what? I'm giving back to the community. That's why I do what I do." 🥲
First I was sceptic if this was of more use than just adding distortion / room to signal. I bougth it and was suprised over how useful it became in getting the mid-range nice saturated and more clear in the baselines in the mix. Super satisfied, and the minimal interface is very good since it's very effective for the workflow. This type of plugin do not need to have all parameters exposed but I would love to see a mix knob tho :)
Sounds pretty good, however the installation is a massive hazzle. Having to clear 5 or 6 captchas, create 3 new accounts in total and install UA Connect.
This plugin is insanely good. I am genuinely shocked that a greedy company like UA would really give an amazing plugin like this out for free. The free version is sooo good, I don’t even want to bother with the full version. Well done UA!
Nice demo. Sounds amazing. As soon as I'm done with this comment, I'm clicking the "UA Connect" icon. As always, I love the way you have fun doing these videos.
Just got the full version of Verve. I'm curious to see how to use other more controllable plug ins to saturate, distort, overdrive, and bit corrupt tracks and busses.
What a wonderful sound! I just spent the weekend listening to some old vinyls and CDs and you can really hear that songs make perfect use of the mid-range - this plugin will probably help you get that sound which is bright but not harsh, and has low end but not too much. And it goes without saying - it’s insane you just recreated the song for the sake of demoing this plugin 😂
This reminds me so much of TC Electronics Finalizer - the rack mounted unit I owned in the late 1990s. Instant sweetening for just about every production. I just had it on the end of my mastering chain on the patchbay, most often.
Thanks for this. I like maybe one or two of their plugins, but they once caused me nearly 6 hours downtime at the studio because of a licensing error, and so I banned them as well 😂
Hey, Dom! So I did get it. Here's my issue: each instance adds tons of colour, which isn't a bad thing, but even when the drive knob is at 0... and that's the ONLY control on the plugin. Jury's out on this one.
This sounds awesome. I think the "vintagize" will be especially useful to add character to boring tracks. One question though: does the Essential version really have no output trim? I've noticed it was adding a lot of level to your tracks. I don't think you need to obsessively level-match, but I do like to be able to pull back the output to make sure I'm not getting fooled by added loudness. I guess you can always add a gain plugin afterwards. I have the Spark subscription, so I'll probably just use the full version of this plugin anyway. That one does have an output control.
I honestly think that for this kind of plugin level matching is the least of the things you should worry about. Level matching would be utterly pointless and I won't waste time with this when the sound changes so drastically :) But I totally agree with you, I don't know why the output control was omitted on Essentials - possibly because it's free? :)
Bless up Dom, great vid as per you know that I'm on it like Scotch Bonnet, the review of course demonstrates the variations of Verve Analogue Machines models but I cant help marvel at the genius and raw talent that Amy brought to the world with your recreation of 'Back to Black' - this simply overwhelmed me more than the plugin you featured [in a good way trust me]. Thanks for reminding the world why we love to make music. Cheers dude
Watch the full video and the answer is there :) if you feel this only makes things louder I wouldn’t worry about buying plugins but more about mixing a lot and training your ear :) But watch the video first ❤️
@@DomSigalas I saw your video, it certainly introduces harmonics but to do a really precise experiment, use a gain match type plugin and see if the processed sound is actually increased. Thing that struck me about this plugin is that it doesn't have an output gain.
@@AforismiDAutoreAD yes annoyingly the free version doesn’t have output gain. However the paid does and it certainly doesn’t just make things louder. Actually it’s quite drastic in the way it changes the sound :) Try the demo and check for yourself - especially for the free version you have nothing to lose ;)
@@DomSigalas I tried the free version, and I'm disappointed that it doesn't have output gain. It inserts nice harmonics but it's a simple "drive", nothing special and nothing real with the real tape saturators. More louder it sounds and better it will sound looks like, so not having an output gain makes you think a lot about UAD's intentions. Also, what is happening to UAD? Lately it has been giving away free version plugins and selling plugins at modest prices and with special discounts... but wasn't it a company that sold its plugins only to owners of Apollo twin? Is it now looking for competition in the user market and wants to impose its plugins? He should have thought about it before, not now. This plugin in fact betrays the UAD standards it has had up to now.
The only thing that is annoying with the free version is that nag screen in the gui wanting you to upgrade. I did snag the free la2a though when that was available. Great score!
Sounds good. BUT a great deal of that "Verve" sound could have been accomplished by boosting the high end in certain instruments. It is a little misleading... 😐
I wanted to buy a DAW for audio post-production for films, and I bought Cubase 13 Pro. I was not aware of Nuendo, which is designed for post-production. Am I out of luck now? Can't afford the upgrade now.
The listen button will dim the dry signal by a set amount, however if you want to use that function as intended as a dm, but also solo just the reverb, add the direct routing section to your Channel bar on the far left and or mixed console, and if you click it on the dry Channel it will fully remove the dry signal.
Not Cubase- The EXACT same thing happens in Logic too (yes, I tried). The plugin introduces a bit of latency (and I have so many instances turning off at once -thanks Cubase!) so there WILL be click when the audio shifts due to the latency changing. Simple as that ;)
Hello Dom. Great videos mate. I am wondering if it is something that you can suggest at Steinberg. I think it would be a great feature to be able to drag any channel from an other project and use them in a project that someone is working on. We all have plenty of unused projects and that way, a great arrangement can be re-puposed. Hope that's something they do for an update. Thanks Dom.
You can do this..cubase has had this for years. You can load channels and midi/audio from older projects and load them in new projects. I've done it too do remixs and too quickly use parts from old tracks which can inspire new tracks.
Well why not? Its free! Just installed it and it does sound good on drums, but the free version has too much warble to be useful on anything melodic IMO, and I reckon I could get the same effect with a couple of my existing plugins... possibly H Comp + H Delay. So for free I'll take it :), but don't think I'd buy it.
just louder? Check the difference in loudness after I added so this on every channel. All Distortions are not made equally either. ;) I take it you didn’t watch the full video from what you said though so it’s fine ;)
Hi Dom, I have the download, and have dragged the UA to the applications, but I can't find the plugin and have no idea as to get this installed into Cubase13
Quick guide from Doms suggestions:
Kick/ Bass - Warm
Piano - Thicken
Strings/Guitar- Sweeten
Electric Guitar - Distort
