Around 2019 these "color box" / LoFi plugins started coming out in droves. I was keeping track of all of them in a list. After 30 different companies released plugins like this, I lost track of it and I don't care enough to keep track of it anymore. RC20 was successful and then a bunch of companies wanted to copy that, and even MORE of these things started coming. There's so many of these damn things now, haven't we had enough? It has become the conformity. I wish these companies would do something more original and innovate instead of re-making this plugin the 51st time.
locking the output/compensate gain to the full version was a dick move. thought I would mitigate it by using it as a send, though that causes phase issues -- so that solution was a no go. anyway, can't complain too much as it was free with my PIB purchase.
I'm glad that i didnt buy any tape saturarion before, just used free ones like chow one. Now this ia great, do what ia ment to, only one knob and no diatrative other options like warble, fixed oversampling in 192 khz and ultra low cpu usage. Amazing
It's funny. This sort of sound is exactly why I sold my ReVox 736 and G36's (way) back in the day, as it was the last thing I wanted to hear on a stereo master or archive tape ;) Who-da though I might be buying that cludgy sound as an effect many years later? I claimed the free version, let's see if I ever use it.... I don't have many UAD tape models, got lotsa Waves and others though
I like the “sweeten” a tad bit better than the Studer but only on certain things tho. Maybe drum bus. And MAYBE on individual sounds but the Studer is goated
I think Verve is the best saturation plugin out there. I compared it with all my other saturation plugins, and Verve has far better transients then all of the other plugins. I don't know of any other plugin like it.
Very good analysis! I already have the Slate VTR and all The IK Multimedia tape sims which are superb so don't really need these but if you don't have anything like this it's no-brainer really.
My question in regard to this is... "how often does UAD actually listen to the criticism and change/correct/expand it?" With you showing that clearly the end result plugin Verve comes from a multitude of tweakable plugins, do they even have a need to give us things like an output and mix knob in Verve?
6:20 the difference in my IPhone is huuuuge! I was shocked, didn’t see that coming! The Studer has much much more depth. VERVE sounds harsh and flat!! Ughhh…I won’t use these shitty plugins. Thanks for making this video Matt!
Thanks Matty. Appreciate the run down. In my opinion these plugins from UAD are nothing other developers haven't done for a long time. Far too late to the party. Just another attempt for more sales really. And the price is a joke for when the promotion is over. When they stop forcing their customers to stay connected to the internet just to use their plugins... only then I would look into possibly purchasing their products.
You do NOT need to stay connected to the internet. When activating with iLok put the license on your iLok key and not the iLok cloud it tries to get you to do by default. You can stay offline all you like until the cows come home.
@@mrufino1 Yeh I understand. The fact no other developer does what they do speaks volumes. iLok key is another expense I don't need. All my plugins don't need to be online and only a handful were activated on the iLok cloud. Even those plugins don't need to be online. Only for the initial activation. To each to their own.
Hey Matt. I've received a reply notification to my comment from someone acting as you. I didn't click on it. The actual reply doesn't exist in the comments on your vid. But it shows only in my notifications. Just thought I would give you a heads up. Cheers
I think you are close, but those examples of the Studer and the ATR-102 sound totally different to me than the Verve plugin. Not saying that they aren't related somehow, but they're definitely different. Having said that, I can get the Thermionic Culture Vulture to sound almost identical to some of the tube options, but not without tweaking the Vulture for ten minutes first. Verve is just super fast. As far as a "mix" knob goes, I think that it just wouldn't work because of all the modulation happening in the Verve plugin. A 'mix' would cause too much phasing/flanging unfortunately. That's where the tweak-ability of the full on plugins like the Vulture would be more suited.
Verve is an annoying way to get their installer on your PC then a pop up ad comes up every hour or so from Universal in Windows asking if we want to buy more products... you know what i have to say about that? F Universal Audio and their overpriced BS... this was the last straw for them. They crossed a line here doing this. a ton of ppl are annoyed with them.
Thanks! Please post some of your masterpieces so we can all hear it! Trip is super talented artist and bass player touring the world. So I guess a lot of us have bad taste in music.
@@mixedbymattyit's horrible music bro you had to loop the most annoying "hooky" part on repeat too. it's easier to hear tape saturation on something like a kick drum that doesn't have a lot of overtones. you keep going on tape saturating mastered songs though!
what a douchey comment for someone who’s gone to the trouble of making an i informative and helpful video and to someone talented who’s kindly let their material be used to do so. The music may not be to everyone’s taste but it did the job without any need to be judge need be snarky. If you worked in my business and ai caught an attitude like that said individual would be fired on the spot for being a c***.
hmmm.UAD: create something, make it free but totally inconvenient, then say: if you want the useful version, it will cost you some bugs...Is that the right way to show how much you value your customers? I´m not sure.
He’s quick. He’s clean. He’s Matty.
First time listener/watcher of Matty. Well said.
I was asking myself the same question, since i already have Studer and Oxide, very nice and informative video.
The Fade God you got the cleanest Boosie fade
😂
If you look up the definition of a fade, there’s a picture of Matt
grossly underated comment.
Good call about "the output" control!
UAD should take note.

Isnt the gui enough to make your music sound top notch tho?
Gotta make what sells, sadly.
So many of these type of plugins. the UA apex ATR 102 in my opinion the best tape emulation out there. It was a game changer for me.
EXACTLY! So glad you raised the question. When first released, I said “I don’t need another tape saturation plugin - looks like Oxide!”

THANKS MATTY. One of the best mixing/mastering channels on YT. : )
"I PUT MY WEIGHT UP ON YOU".... I cant unhear it now
Right? Good track!
Thanks for your insightful review. I will stick with the Studer and Softube Tape plug ins. They do what I want them to do.
What was the song you were using for the listening example?? Omg it was so good!
Sounds close but the difference for me (headphones) is the separation and 3D space though the Verve sounds much nicer.
I really liked the Ampex in your video!

Too clean of audio often sounds boring. Unless you are recording an orchestra or something.

Which ones do you have?
@@Clasam09 Saturn 2, UAD Studer, Black Box v2, Spice Rack, Decapitator, Sugar, SSL X-saturator, Softube Tape and Softube Harmonic Saturator and some freeware.

So as we would use the A800 and Atr. Sweeten (A800) across individual tracks and Warm (Atr) on the Master bus.
HI how you do to put the EQ from Studer to 0 ? what is the position exactely? because we don t see the value
Great mix by the way!
YES IT NEEDS A MIX KNOB AND OUTPUT MATCH
they should have a mix knob to blend in the input signal
Or you could just create a bus with the tape plug in on it and blend to taste
Thank you, Matty! 🫰

Appreciate the freebie very much, but charging extra money for output gain is a bit over the top.
Yah that one is pretty funny to me.
That's an un informed statement. You get six more modules. That's what you're paying for.
Mix knob, great idea, are you listening UAD?

Didn't say it was the exact same thing. I think the flavor is there for sure though. Def same algo. Same for the 102.
dope stuff bro thanks

Point us to the full track Boosie Fade Matt...
Much rather have the versatile of a studer frfr
Honestly they kind of crapped the bed on that.
I shot this out against...the nebula AR102 nebula destroyed it....nebula and acustica audio will always destroy UAD 😢🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We beg for auto gain on plugins and they remove the gain altogether 😢😂
Just saved me from buying verve analog machines. I already own studer and oxide
tape emus are a waste of money....nothing like the real thing...and you can get away with an eq and some saturation that all...and big marketing
