RS7 Spark Plugs in a Golf R and Unplugging The Rear O2 Sensor!

- I'll let you watch my install of Audi RS7 spark plugs into my 2019 Golf R MK7.5, and of course I'll tell you why. Then I'm unplugging my rear O2 sensor as recommended by Equilibrium Tuning for cars with a Stage 2 or greater tune and an aftermarket downpipe (which you probably have if you are running stage 2 :) If you are running a COBB tune or a tune based of the COBB Accessport in a MQB car, you might want to check out the recommendation to do the same.

Here are the plugs I installed: amzn.to/3v7aEHS

Lol I like this guy. He’s a man still in his prime ;) n hes still finding enjoyment on working on his car. “I love the pops the coils make when they come out “ haha I remember those days
I recently unplugged my rear O2 sensor after having some problems. I wasn’t having issues untill I had my motor built and retuned. It started throwing rich and lean codes with a CEL after every few hundred miles and would start misfiring, but would go back to normal when I cleared the codes. Took it back and my tuner and unplugged my rear O2 sensor. I reflashed my tune, so hope it’s all good now. My R is protuned using Cobb software and running a catless downpipe. I saw your video a few months ago and didn’t think it applied to me haha. Should have done it then though
More videos like this!, and performance wise of the EQT tunes, awesome...
Great stuff! I just installed the EQT Stage 2 map on my 2019 R. I've ordered the plugs and have the following mods AMS Intercooler / AMS TMD / APR Turbo Inlet / Cobb Intake / AMS Catted Downpipe. When I first drove it I was concerned something was wrong....it went from this sedate 4 cylinder to a little hissing beast! :) Love this car! Ok enough of that.....based on your feedback I need to unplug the O2 Sensor? Thanks again for all the informative videos and info!
This answers my prior Q on the o2. Has anything changed since this video? Thank you.
This question might be kind of silly but I have a CEL for cat inefficiency bank 2. My solution is to put an o2 spacer in that has a minicat on the end of it. If I just unplugged my rear o2 will i see the same CEL for that? Did you get the same CEL?
Tbh I just live with the check engine light, just a quirk of living with an aftermarket downpipe.
@@CyseTV I'm on my second spacer since my comment and still a cel. Yeah i've accepted defeat too lol
My understanding is that running rich = less potential damage but less power, running lean = more potential damage and knock but more power, so because I want my GTI to last longer and still be stage 2 EQT, Should I keep the O2 sensor plugged in or unplug it? I'd rather run richer to be on the safe side, unless my understanding is incorrect.
Gti mk7 aftermarket downpipe light is on code P0420 (O2)unplug yes or no… no tune ???
Great Video, please can you mention spark plug torque ? I have Same Golf R
30 nm
@@EVERYTHINGcpo, what brand of coil packs do you have installed?
@ stock
Did this also get rid of the check engine light too? Also is this method still recommended?
I'm wondering if it's still recommended too. The CEL is super annoying.
Tuning in for replies , I just got a 19’ rabbit edition and it’s bone stock, before I get buyers remorse and buy a Cobb AP, I wanna make sure this issue is fixed or I can get some advice otherwise I’m going laptop tune or another method
@@haivemusic as far as I know I looked it up recently with EQT and one of their tuners on a forum (this was from may of this year) said that EQT nor Cobb will ever fix the issue.
Is this advised for EQT stage 2 tunes also? Want to get rid of the CEL.
@@ss10million That's quite unfortunate to hear, but not surprising I suppose. It seems everywhere is afraid to mention anything regarding emissions related components these days, yet alone do anything with them physically or tune wise. It really is a shame they can't address and properly fix this issue to avoid such a hacky workaround.
Great video! Just curious, why did you reflash the tune at the end of the video? Is it something required to do after replacing spark plugs? Thanks
It was because I unplugged the rear O2 sensor. I need to flash if just doing spark plugs
Heard those RS7 spark plugs like to grenade themselves into the motor and turbo , be careful and use non projected
thanks, I will do it. I always got O2 issue when scanning by obd11
You’ll have a code when you unplug it, but no check engine light. Just ignore the o2 sensor code when you scan.
stage 2 only?
He says stage 2 and above
How are these plugs holding up so far? EQT doesn't recommend them anymore!
I had mine unplugged (o2 sensor broke) and caused issues on my car , added a new one and car runs fine
Who are you tuned with?
do i need to reflash the tune after installing new spark plugs?
No
Are these good for stock tune ? Apr coilpack ?
APR coil packs are no better than factory coil packs on any tune. I would stick with factory plugs if stock.
Interesting post regarding the rear oxygen sensor. Is this only for Cobb tunes?
Yeah, it seems to be a “feature” of Cobb based tunes.
Would RS7 plugs be gapped to .024 for Stage 1 Golf R's?
Yes
0:51 telling people to gap a sparkplug that has a warning on the box "DO NOT GAP"... wonder how many engines have failed from this video? Big 🧠
Rs7 plugs in general are known to drop the electrode and destroy engine they are shitty plugs never run them instead use NGK r7438-8 or r7438-9
Are you still running these despite the article from EQT saying that these are no longer recommended due to the failure rate?
I am still running them, yes. However I will switch to the new recommendation at the next plug change.
How comfortable do you feel running the RS7 plugs in the meantime? I was originally going to use the NGK 91006 but considering I never stage 2 yet, I decided to buy the Denso 5749s and going to use those ones. Just kind of sucks that the 91006s I bought are useless but small price to pay if they were to break I suppose... I believe EQT also mentions that the race plugs do not need to be gapped and could stay at 0.028 instead of the recommended 0.024.
Update: I went EQT stage 2 with the Denso 5749s and car runs flawlessly!
@@SupportIsPower so did you gap the denso race? or not? next week im gonna install the denso race 5749. thanks!
@@ianpats130 Hey, I did not end up gapping them. Did you?
Did you gap these?
I assume you didn’t actually watch the video, since this was literally in the first two minutes. ;-)
@@EVERYTHINGcpo Clearly he didn't... LOL.
Hey! How did you route your Cobb AP? Looks good = )
The cable is just coiled up behind the little coin drawer where the fuse box is... then ran up through an opening under the steering wheel.
👉as fire is covered by somke😂😊
You can use the dish type gap tool. The only way the electrodes will break is if you are trying to be legally stupid.
What you mean trying to be legally stupid? I guess just go easy on it dont be too hard when checking the space? Just bought the disk one since i ordered the rs7 plugs and need to check the gap lol
