@@davidd.6448 It’s still there but what’s happened is that the music industry has changed. Before, music was created by artists and distributed by record corporations, so you had a lot of genuine creativity hit the airwaves. Now, it’s the reverse: the music is created by record corporations and distributed through pretty little performers like Taylor Swift or BTS or Little Pink. It’s become formulaic and homogenised, like eating at McDonalds instead of an artisan restaurant. British music is still great and highly creative - it just doesn’t get the airwaves it used to under the current distribution model.
For non-european subscribers, some context. This song was released in 1976, a year after Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a mega hit in Europe, and became the anthem of music lovers. John received the nickname of "Mr Music" throughout european countries. Let me tell you more about him and then the concert context. John was a legend. He was from England, Newcastle area. He was an insanely talented musician, pianist, guitarist, singer, orchestra conductor, composer. The punk wave stopped his solo career but he became an amazing music director for the greatests. Some of his achievements: • he was a lead singer on many songs of the famous "Alan Parson's Project” album. Alan did produce his album Rebel that included this hit. • he was an amazingly skilled guitarist and played on stage with Led Zeppelin during some of their tours • he was the guitarist of Jimmy Page during his solo tours and even wrote several songs for him • he was music director for both Joe Cocker and Tina Turner. He sang with them in duets, made backing vocals and played guitar during some of their concerts. He cooked some of their masterpieces records. Just to give an example: he composed, played piano, drums, guitar and made backing vocals for 3 songs of Joe’s record "Night Calls" • His most famous live renditions of this song were done for a series of concerts titled "Nights of Proms”, held every year and touring Europe with a mix of classic, rock and pop music. Prestigious guests were performing in these concerts, sometimes with unique covers or collaborations. It’s has been active since decades and is very very popular, biggest stadiums packed as you have seen here. • John was the music director of these concerts since 1989 until his death in 2021. And the tradition was to end the concert with his song "Music". I recommend you to check his Stairway to Heaven cover with the contribution of Sharon Den Adel (within Temptations). Amazing! Or his own rendition of a song he composee for Joe Cocker "Now that the magic has gone"
The only reason it did not become famous in USA? The song was too long for US radios (which are merely a few short songs bridges between long ads 😂) and John refused to shorten his masterpiece.
There's something funny about you when you can't help but be amazed.😂😂😂 By the way, I'm sixty and enjoyed this piece when I was your age. There are pieces that are timeless because they are good.
John Miles was a musical Genius from my home town in North east England and with the help of Alan Parsons (Alan Parsons Project) who also produce some of the Beatles and Pink Floyd created this masterpiece
He is Musician with Multiple Talents, He has ALL God's Blessings in Him ❤ For me was A real Blessing to meet him on stage in Belgium, France, Germany with the " Night of the Proms" orchestra. It is correct he said somewhere that when he composed his "Music" it sounded accompanied with big orchestra and choir. He was always happy to return to Europe and perform different styles of music but his song: " Music" became The Hymn of his NOTP tours where thousend of people came to sing along with him and wave with their lights as a twinkling stars in the night 🎉 It was always amazing experience. I hope they will continue with this nice tradition...
R.I.P. John Miles you live in our hearts and we need to hear better MUSIC like the OLD AND GOLD music we used to love in the past. When i see a young man like you loving MUSIC by JOHN MILES i start to believe that ALL the bad music of today needs to go away and erased from the world.
If you like electric guitar and orchestral elements (apart from ELO) check out the music of the producer of this song- Alan Parsons and the Alan Parsons Project
When a 5 yrs old kid ask you What is MUSIC ? or something like = How to separate good music from bad music ? YOU HAVE TO tell the boy PLEASE boy o please kid go to listen the song MUSIC by JOHN MILES
John Miles recorded an album called Zarragon it needs checked out its nothing short of a masterpiece it was a great pity it was never a massive success
What a waste...the song was too big for John Miles... He basically shouted the song and ended the song on a low pitch as the key was way too high for him to end it on a high note. The song needed a high note finish and he ruined it with a flat pitch.
British music was/is always ahead of its time
maybe not so much nowadays, but 60s-90s absolutely unbeatable

Check out John Miles playing this live at "Night Of The Proms-2001". It is on TH-cam, and the reaction from the audience is mind blowing.
Absolutely. What was even more mind-blowing was the fact that he was still able to reach those notes. Gone, but not forgotten.

Grandma and grandpa already knew what was good.
It's nice that people like you make sure she isn't forgotten.
I saw John Miles in about 1980 and he was excellent. Saw him a few years after Queen who were amazing but he was still a great singer and musician.
76 was a great year for music and experiences. I bought this on a 45rpm single.
I am a Spanish lover of good music. I think that is my favorite song from I listen it, many years ago.
46 years ago this was my exam revision music! ❤❤
Check the live version out from night of the proms brother, 2016. It’s epic.

A good follow-up to this would be the cover by german band J.B.O. - Metal was my first love
A great homage to both the original and the genre.
