      As of this morning UK time. The England Women's team are the most successful Rugby Union team ever, they have gone on a 29 games winning streak, and to be honest it doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon at this year's Women's rugby union world cup. They beat the main opposition very convincingly twice on the bounce late last year the Black Ferns of New Zealand.

    The large woman in red is "built like a brick sh** house". A lot of these tackles are legal within rugby. They have tightened the rules over the past few years, and some are not legal such as high tackles and risks to the neck. Colours: England - White, New Zealand - Black, Australia - Green & Yellow, Wales - Red, Italy - Blue/Blue & White, Scotland - Blue & White, Tonga - Red/Red & White, South Africa - Green & White, France - Blue & White. Colours can change if they clash with opponent. There are others.

    It would be a contentious argument, but it's between England and Wales in the UK. Italy haven't really been in the running, but do shine occasionally. As of 22 October 2022, England mens, are currently world #5, Scotland #6, Wales #7 and Italy #14 (USA 19). Women's world rankings England #1 (by a significant margin), Italy #5, USA #7, Wales #9 and Scotland #10. These are fluid and not fixed.

      Being brutally candid "it's between England and Wales" if you give Wales a 25-point start. They are showing some signs of moving on in some areas with contracted players but the gap is still big. In the Women's Six Nations it is England or France; but even in this match-up France have not won since the Grand Slam victory in 2018.
      I want to see the other European teams pulling closer to England and France for many more 'real games'.

      You have to understand, that due to many factors (not just our small size) Wales will always struggle to compete with much larger and wealthier nations, in most sports. Both in the Mens and Women’s domains.
      However, we are also quite good at punching above our weight and I hope that in the next few years, with added investment and more professionally contracted players, Wales’ women can start to be genuinely competitive. England are just so far ahead though and that’s a credit to the RFU and the English rugby public for nurturing and getting behind the game there.

    This is fun watching you two ladies. You thought it was a throat punch, no it is called a "Hand off" . Perfectly legal , 9ne hand against a whole body. Tackling is a bit different, it is preferable to tackle oround the legs, thus immobilising the player. Around the neck is a ,no no, penalty.yes. any tackle that the referee deals dangerous will be a penalty. Dangerous tackling is a yellow or red card. Yellow a warning, red off the field. Love your enthusiasm.

  • @AbiRobinson
    @AbiRobinson ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I believe a general rule of thumb for legal tackles in rugby union is not above the shoulder line, the player being tackled must be in possession of the ball and it shouldn’t be dangerous (clearly they have a different definition of danger than me because my spidey senses say being on the same pitch as these ladies is hazardous to my health 😂)

  • @dang1086
    @dang1086 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    To fully understand rugby you really need to see some scrums and see the relationship between the forwards( the ones in the scrum.) and the backs. Watch some line outs. And the difference between rucks and mauls. The kicking game can literally win world cups.

    Our (USA) women are usually a bit better than they are currently. Covid set them back some due to lack of playtime. The Eagles have been a top 5 team but as of today have dropped down to around 8th.
    One thing that holds us back is our size. It can be quite difficult to get together as a group when players live and play thousands of miles apart. The England team can gather together by, at most, a 2 hour train ride.
    The Red Roses are playing the best I've seen. They have an incredible pack and their backs are quite good and have multiple players that kick very well.

    Love your reaction to this :) Regarding kicking; yes, you can kick whenever you want but you have to chase it yourself, or the receiving player must be behind you when you kick.
    There is also kicking for touch, or territory, but they are different scenarios. Hair pulling is not allowed (penalty offence) but it does happen; suppose it is too tempting.

    You know you’ve now got Ladies Rugby in the US now as well as Mens it all over the TH-cam channels where people have found that anyone can play Rugby a learn how to be part of a team. Famously Rugby is defiantly a, no matter how it looks, a friendly and “we’ve won but isn’t it our turn to buy the Pints” type of game. Rugby clubs in the UK and elsewhere normally start in villages or schools where you end up having a clue house (obviously with some barrels of bear a bar and tables and chairs) and a rugby pitch which is marked out and with the posts standing proud. There are local leagues with competitive competitions going up to county level. This is where the big teams get their new players from. From TH-cam I get the impression that the team coaches try and get an instant team from older NFL players and this is good as far as it goes but they need to start a grass roots catchment, ensuring the local primary and secondary schools start the children off early to learn the very basics of the game by playing stealing ribbons. Basically the kids play a team game each of them having three ribbons loosely fixed to their shorts obviously the opposite team have to steel a ribbon off the other teams players. No tackling and no slapping, kicking or pulling of hair, just the basic team game. Even they reach about 14 / 15 then they start to get taught tackling, how to fall and also what not to do, like tackling around the neck or head. I was taught myself at school years and years ago.
    According to the vids on TH-cam a lot of the reasoning behind Rugby in America is aimed at getting kids out of the usual spiral of urban dickey, to start showing them there is a greater thing to aspire to, I think this is a good thing but it needs to be widened I think to all children.

    As long as you don't tackle high, above the shoulders, or late then you tend to be okay on the tackles. I remember when I used to play getting three high tackles in one match, the opposing team got three red cards for it. I complained about neck pain and headaches for days before my school advised my Mum to take me to A&E (ER)... turns out I had got two twisted and fractured vertebra, I was 16 and had been playing for school team. I wasn't allowed to play Rugby again... so when it was Rugby in PE I ran laps of the field... Wolfreton we a dirty side and no wonder no one wanted to play them.

All other tackling was fair, these girls are not sissies. These outtacks are all very well and fun but to understand the game l suggest you watch a complete game from start to finish. Kicking the ball in play for points is called a “field goal” and can be utilised during the game. Kicking for field position allows the offence to apply pressure and panic to opponents defending their goal line. The kick can be used as a pass but, it can only be regathered by the kicker or any teammate that is behind the kicker (onside) when the kick is made. Fitness strength and speed are very important, if the body is exhausted, the brain doesn’t function properly and mistakes are made… Enjoy watching the woman’s rugby World Cup

      Women of strength
      Who will bear the future
      The Black Ferns of New Zealand

    Yep some of those tackles were illegal. The one with the 'flip' (as you described it) is definitely illegal and you can see the referee with their arm out signalling a penalty. If there was commentary instead of music t would have been highlighted as illegal too. The law in Rugby Union is "a player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground." Also "A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp that player."

    Aussie Rules (we call aerial Ping-Pong) is a game that has bits and pieces from all other codes. Where it differs the most, is like basketball you have to bounce the ball on the ground every curtain number of steps/distance travelled. Like rugby it has big hits, but normally higher off the ground, hence aerial ping-pong.

    You can kick the ball any direction but you can only throw the ball back. But there is "offside" in Rugby, which essentially means you can't pass the ball to a another player forward of you, when you last touched the ball. So often the kicks are actually picked up by the kicker because everyone else is already behind them to avoid offside.
