    R.I.P. Mr. Music.
What a talent. When you consider there was basically 1 vocal verse, and he turned that one verse into a song of epic proportions. Incredible.
I'm well into my 70's now, not in the best of health, and probably not much longer for this world, and as an ex-musician for most of my life I've left instructions for this to be played on the conclusion of my funeral.
    Thanks for posting.

I was around 17 when I got hired on at a studio near Chelsea in London England. John Miles, David Essex and Maxine Nightingale all had time at the studio there to rehearse for upcoming concerts. Such a thrill as a young kid to be in the studio with these artists. Good times.

For non-european subscribers, some context around this performance. This song was released in 1976, a year after Bohemian Rhapsody.
It was a mega hit in Europe, and became the anthem of music lovers. John received the nickname of "Mr Music" throughout european countries. Let me tell you more about him and then the concert context.
The concert is in fact a series of concerts titled "Nights of Proms”, held every year and touring Europe with a mix of classic, rock and pop music. Prestigious guests are performing in these concerts, sometimes with unique covers or collaborations. It’s has been active since decades and is very very popular, biggest stadiums packed as you have seen here.
John was a legend. He was from England, Newcastle area.
He was an insanely talented musician, pianist, guitarist, singer, orchestra conductor, composer. The punk wave stopped his solo career but he became an amazing music director for the greatests.
    Some of his achievements:
    • he was a lead singer on many songs of the famous "Alan Parson's Project” album. Alan did produce his album Rebel that included this hit.
    • he was an amazingly skilled guitarist and played on stage with Led Zeppelin during some of their tours
    • he was the guitarist of Jimmy Page during his solo tours and even wrote several songs for him
    • he was music director for both Joe Cocker and Tina Turner. He sang with them in duets, made backing vocals and played guitar during some of their concerts. He cooked some of their masterpieces records. Just to give an example: he composed, played piano, drums, guitar and made backing vocals for 3 songs of Joe’s record "Night Calls"
    • John was the music director of these Night of Proms concerts since 1989 until his death in 2021. And the tradition was to end the concert with his song "Music".
I recommend you to check his Stairway to Heaven cover with the contribution of Sharon Den Adel (within Temptations). Amazing!
Or his own rendition of a song he composed for Joe Cocker "Now that the magic has gone"

I met John Miles after one of his concerts, he was really a nice guy, and a very talented musician. Apart from his own albums and singles, many who may not instantly recognize the name may have seen him as Tina Turner's guitarist and singer, and John often appeared on the Alan Parsons Project albums.

You should listen to the original recording from1976 with his voice at it's very best, he had a great voice in his older years but the original was astounding.

Great song, produced by Alan Parsons. John Miles has also contributed to some of the Alan Parsons Project albums and was guitarist for Tina Turner when she toured. Those Night of the Proms events are great - a classical orchestra playing classic works as well as accompanying the band and the guest vocalist that play famous hits. I remember seeing Sting, Colin Blunstone and Barry Ryan during such events.

To the night of proms guests, you can add so many: Joe Cocker, Andrea Bocelli, Art Garfunkel, Beach Boys, James Blunt, Cliff Richard, Lara Fabian, Seal, Simple Minds, Status Quo, Texas, Cindy Lauper, … to name just a few 😅

Got no notification for this, one of the great artists of the 70s.
Live, he was phenomenal, particularly in those early years when I saw him in Birmingham . At the time of this video he was on the wane vocally so worth looking at earlier recordings. There are better live versions of this same number. Listen to the studio version - you won't regret it.
But he was also, which you don't see here, a great guitarist.
I had, and still have, all his albums, but this was his Magnum Opus.
For a softer one, try Lady of My Life or When You Lose Someone So Young.

I really liked this song! - his vocals, the lyrics, and the different instrumental parts and styles. So glad I got to hear this!
And I always thought that Barry Manilow was music, because he wrote the songs.....Move over Barry! John needs space on that piano bench!
