I tried to drill the hole in the tip of my brand new 36" Stihl bar. You cannot layout a hole anywhere next to the tip sprocket, but there is room between rivets very close to it. Just know that you will hit case-hardened steel which destroys conventional drill bits. Now I have to decide whether to buy an expensive bit to stick with my layout or drill new holes elsewhere. Just thought a comment would save others this headache.

Follow-up: I bought the set of Artu tungsten-carbide bits available at the local hardware store, popped the 3/8" bit into the drill press and had no problem making the hole. Good set of bits to have!

Great video. Can't wait to see you make some saw dust with the new mill!

Well came here for some reassurance on drilling my 800$ Cannon bar. Im new the the chainsaw mill side. Been around band mills for 35 years. The chainsaw milling is new. I have a MS880 with a 72" Cannon bar. Inly made about 10 cuts with it and know already the I need the Aux oiler kit I bought. My oiler looks identical, but it's a panda steel speacial, so there are no instructions. Kinda figured this is how it was installed but still wanted to see someone else do first 😂

Western Washington state. I mill with a Stihl MS880MAG. 60" bar. Full Grandberg setup with aux oiler. I use Canola or veggie oil in the aux oiler, Stihl Platinum bar oil in the saw. Works great!
Thanks Jared for all the videos!

Hello, love the video! And all the ones before. In regards to the oil i would say that the chainsaw oil is made to be very thick so it can stick to the chain as it spins around. In the case of the oiler that oil is for the "return trip" and therefore doesn't need to be as sticky. What you would want is a high smoke pointo oil. Vegetable oil would do.

I have been using filter cleaned 30w car oil and have NEVER burnt a bar. I used to have the bar handle on the end if my bar so my friend could help push, and he had a squirt oil can to lube from the other side. I have an oil tank now. I ran outa friends…..

Hi, I now have a 54" mill and an oiler kit with most of Granbergs, accessories . Will order a new saw head as soon as I finish my move to south central PA this week. 09 December. I will use some ATF oil to try that then adjust from there. Ron

Was looking for a video just like this. Thanks for your information regarding the location as I wanted to install mine in the same location for maximum milling space. Plan to install mine tomorrow to start milling several oak logs.

pacific northwest... 72 inch bar and aux oiler I also use veggie or canola oil. I haven't milled below freezing but plenty in the 30's and 40's all the way up to 70 degrees and have no complaints with oil getting to the bar. Good luck man!

Hope to get an aux oiler one day. I have purchased all other accessories for my mill. Waiting on the quick adjustment and roller bracket now. I'm using a 64" bar. My 3120xp has a button where I can pump extra oil if need be. Seems to do ok.

Thank you for your patience. The milling gods have been delaying me at every stop this summer. Sycamore slaughter to commence very soon.

Northern Manitoba Canada, only use Canola oil in the chainsaw as well as axillary oilers on 36" plus lenght bars...you can never have to much lubrication.

Super helpful video! Central Ohio here, and just about to drill the holes in my bar. I'm not sure what oil I will use. I do most of my milling in 60 degrees +.

Great video! Might you share how you drilled the holes in the bar? Drill press, or by hand? And you said 3/8, correct?

Winter weight Stihl bar oil or just canola oil. No need to complicate things, just keep the chain spinning

Do you use the auxillary with the valve wide open ? I bet Lucas Oil Stabilzer in the axillary would work well since it is sticky yet flowable . However , it is expensive.

I run regular bar oil in the aux oiler so it depends on temperature. Full open when it’s cold, close it down some when it’s warmer. I’ve found synthetic oil to be too thick to flow well.

Cheapest 5w20 motor oil (non name brand) flows good enough out the aux oiler but not so fast that it all runs out when you forget turn the valve off between cuts
