When Korra is on the cliff and Aang was talking about how she was at her lowest point, it is heavily implied that she was so depressed over losing her bending that she was gonna jump off the cliff and commit suicide. Its not really outside the realm of possibility because not even 10 minutes ago, they show the murder/suicide of Amon and Tarrlok. It's amazing how dark this Nickelodeon show could get.

    • @silentassason

I still follow this theory. At that point it seemed giving her life not only because of how depressed she was that she was no longer the Avatar at that point. But also to continue the cycle so a full Avatar can come again.

Nickelodeon is no stranger when it comes to having dark elements in their shows. Things like Invader Zim, Rugrats, SpongeBob, Fairly Odd Parents, and so on only prove that they aren’t afraid to go the extra serious mile like what goes on in LOK.

You have to remember that this 1st season was meant to be the only season which makes sense why the loose ends are tied up so quickly in this season finale with Korra getting her and others bending back and Amon’s death. Psychic Bloodbending is way too OP of an ability introduced so early and it makes all the more sense that this 1 season was meant to be the only season because I can’t imagine any other villain in the franchise as threatening as Amon except for maybe 1.

Tarrlok's and Noatak's double suicide was such a tragically "beautiful" end to their story. Noatak can feel people's movements, which is why he knew what Tarrlok was going to do and he accepted it, he knew that this is how far they'll go. They can't change their past and won't be able to leave it behind, the ghost of their father would've haunted them forever. Thinking that the ghost of Tarrlock’s father shaped him is a mental trap that Tarrlock fell for, I think. After all, as manipulative and lawbending (pun intended) as he was until Korra busted open his office window, he attempted to follow the law until his life was in danger. Technically, taking the political route is a better route to ruling over others than being a mafia leader or a terrorist. He only became the bad guy because he refused to do a gambit where his face gets burned off. Well, I say all that, but I wonder why he has a cabin on a mountain with a cage prepared in it 😅 Some would say that Korra isn’t the first person that Tarrlock bloodbent *while* being a politician… he could’ve gotten rid of other political rivals by uaing bloodbending 😅 Also, I’m certain that practicing bloodbending on animals is better than practicing on humans. Kinda like how irl rats, dogs, monkeys, etc. are used in science experiments in an attempt to avoid/minimize harm to human test subjects.

A lot of people give korra a lot of crap for not being as good as avatar. And they’re sort of right in a sense, I do think there are some points in korra that gets a lot more messy then avatar did. But the same time I still love this series. I really love korra as a character, the multiple twist and turns they pull throughout the series is really interesting and cool, especially in season three, and I still love all these characters, even if they are new. Honestly, Amon being the strongest blood bender kinda also makes him one the strongest waterbenders by proxy. Can’t imagine even Katara would be able to do much against his level of psychic bloodbending. She is of course, the better overall waterbender when it comes to the craft. But when it comes to bloodbending, no one has shown to be Amon’s equal and luckily it looks like no one will ever have to deal with it.

Katara is the best healer, Ming-Hua is the best ice/water bender and Amon is the best bloodbender. Honestly people don't give Ming-Hua the respect she deserves, she's got that Toph buff from a disability fuelling her bending. For the other elements, Tenzin is the best airbender, Azula is the best lightning bender, Ozai is the best firebender, P'Li for Combustion, Toph is the best earthbender, Bolin for lavabending, Metal is Zuvira imo but you could argue for a lot of other characters. Also I love Iroh but Ozai beats him in firebending easily.

Bloodbending is sub bending of waterbenders. If a waterbender is more powerful than another waterbender/bloodbender, then they can resist the bloodbending, that's what I heard. If we go by that, katara most likely can resist amon but she can't bloodbend him back without full moon as she didn't want to train it. So then he would need to use waterbending on her and yeah there she wins.

@@ΔημΣΚ Nah you need access to Bloodbending to resist it, Amon was able to completely resist the full bloodbending of his brother and not even during the full moon. There is an very simple explanation for Amon's ability to take bending away, remember when The Guru taught Aang to open his chacras so his chi would flow? thats it! chi is the energy for bending to happen the same way you can mess with the chi flow using your hands like Tylee you can also use blood bending to go even further and block it all right away.

    • @hopejaworski9097
      @hopejaworski9097 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Also bending is connected to having chi. Chi is energy that flows through peoples bodies. Like chakra. Chakra points are nerves in your bodying that lets the energy flow. When the chi/chakra is blocked the energy is can’t flow right and can make you feel sick. Amon used the blood in the benders body to block the nerves are form bending. That’s how he « took away their bending ». It’s why they didn’t have any energy. When he tryied to take all of korra’s bending away he only aimed for the nerves that were connected to earth, water, and fire. The Nevers for when weren’t functional yet.
Also here’s something that people kinda glossed over when they first introduced blood bending, its not a killing technique or a telekinesis technique, its a torture technique. Water in avatar was used to cut through rocks. When Hama was teaching katara water behind she pulled water from then trees and when she did she ripped it out. Not just pulled, ripped. And when she did the trees broke. Trees are much more denser than people. Which is why when Hama used it on katara she was crying because when the blood was pushing against her veins, muscles, organs in her body, it was hurting her. But for the person who was practicing the technique it takes a lot of effort because they have to find the traces of water in their opponents body. They are learning to take contrôle over a persons body. So they get lost in causing pain and having that amount of control. Until it becomes addictive. No matter who learns blood bending they’re mind willed become dark. Even if someone used it to end a war, mo

It was explained in the Korra artbooks as to how Amon takes away bending. And you are right, he uses bloodbending to block chi paths in the body.
So, he blocks it unlike the Avatar who uses energybending to completely removes the chi paths and takes it away permanently.
If you remember, in the Book 1 in ATLA, when Katara went to learn healing. There was a dummy that had chi paths drawn on it and kids were being taught to heal along those chi paths. Amon uses that only but instead of healing, he moves the blood and blocks them.

When a earth kingdom solider was hit by ty-lee's pressure point technique Katara remarked that the earth kingdom soldiers chi paths were blocked. I think the understanding of the avatar state is important. I always interpreted the avatar state when aang did it, as uncontrolled & chaotic. He even explains this himself several times. We get to see Roku & other avatars use the avatar state & seemingly be in control so that type of power aang possessed was purely from inability. Korra becomes capable in all bendings by the ending only lacking the spiritual connection within herself & when she finally is low enough to unlock the avatar state contemplating suicide, comprable to aang when he was near death in the ocean originally, she unlocks the ability & already has the control of the all the elements therefore control of the avatar state.

My biggest criticism about LoK boils down to the fact that the writers will develop an interesting conflict that poses both moral and philosophical questions (i.e. the Equalist movement revolving around the power imbalance between benders and non-benders) only to oversimplify or completely bypass that same issue as the season moves along (the power disparity and prejudice between the benders and non-benders would still be an issue despite Amon's ousting, and the Equalist movement would probably move on under new leadership). I still love the show, I just wish that the stories were a little tighter and less black and white.

One thing that really pisses me off about the first season of Korra is that they focus a lot on "look how bending evolved, metal benders being society's police, lightning benders working in energy factories" but then they don't explore the real issues So... like, the only job left for non-benders is subservience, like salespeople, nannies and butlers. All real work, like in factories, hospitals or civil engineering was done specifically with fire, water and earth bending in mind, for example, and I'm not even going to delve into things like the fire department or the army, leading them to have worse jobs. Apart from other issues such as the police being made up only of benders and the council only having benders... I mean, these people have no political representation, the people who make the laws are not like them and the people who oppress them, who has the right to use violence to quell rebellions are the same type of people who deny them rights.

@@eagleangel5568The situation in the other seasons is no better, the problems of non-banders simply “disappear”, a (apparently) non-bander mayor appears and that's it, but the series doesn't improve, it presents the equalists with a good idea and so on, but it never investigates the real problems. Furthermore, for example, we never know the situation in the Earth Kingdom during Kuvira's dictatorship.

@@xmant8842In theory yes, but the show doesn't show that, think about which poor nonbanders you remember the name of? none, because he doesn't focus on any, the equalists' entire speech is about removing the bend because the people who hold it are dangerous, the characters' entire speech can be summarized as "this bender hurt me or someone I love", no delves deeper into the social discussion of all inequality in the face of this power. Everything I said at the beginning is an assumption based on a few seconds of technological "evolution" presented by the series and details that I only noticed years after watching the series (and I watched it when it premiered).

So it's essentially like Chi Blocking. Amon disrupts the paths the Chi flow's through in a bender and then is able to take someone's bending away. It's pretty much the same thing that happens when Ang takes away someone's bending

"It allowed itself to stand on its own story for almost the entire season except when it was absolutely necessary to tie all these things together." FINALLY SOMEONE WATCHING LEGEND OF KORRA WITH SANE MIND! This should be the correct way of watching Legend of Korra. Most people who commented negative about it were Aang groupies and ATLA supremacists who refuse to mature with the content they grew up with. Thank you for a very insightful review of LoK first book! The second one will be a doozy because that one was the lowest rated ever in the whole Avatarverse. But I promise you, if you give season 2 a chance, it has story beats that are as emotional, action-packed and as insightful as this. I can't wait to see your reactions to that!

Korra is definitely more politically focused. Each villain for every season has a radically different political ideology from the others. And like most answers, the correct answers lie somewhere in the middle. Amon is essentially a communist. The next villain is a theocrat, then there's an anarchic villain, and finally a villain that is tantamount to fascist.

Karls Marx must be turning in his grave with this comparison. The first season seems only political, I think Xman manages to go deeper into this discussion. But the next seasons are definitely a little deeper in this aspect.

@@amigoeuestouaki4880 all of their ideologies are a warping of what the ideology actually is. As I said, the true answer lies somewhere in the middle. For everything. And for all ideologies.

@@samfisher6606The essence of socialism is the expropriation of the means of production, the end of private property (things like factories and production farms) and the seizure of power by the working class. How does Amon come close to this? His speech is to remove the bending and that's it. he doesn't talk about the oppression of nonbanders in a structural way, his speech - almost racist - boils down to "they are violent, that's why they oppress us".
