I got a kitten yesterday she looks abt 6-7 weeks old he was found under a tire at walmart and i noticed he’s very scared, he hides behind anything he can find like my dresser and my washer. He has gotten better because he plays a little but he still hides when i make a sudden movement or just any small movements any tips?
That's what I strive for: To make every interaction with me a positive one! In 8 years, I've rescued 106 feral cats and kittens. I currently have 2 Mama cats and 7 kittens. The Mamas are slowly coming around and the babies were born here so, they're well socialized. This is a full-time job, but so rewarding. 💙🐈
It took me 5yrs to tame a floof. Admittedly she is my SIL’s cat and I only she her when I’m house sitting but today she willingly sat on my lap without biting me. ❤
That is genuinely a positive step. My wife is the one who saved our cleopatra (shes like 4 now but still teenage kitty size) bimut she loves me so much i cant deny her anything. I am wrapped around her little front toe ans wouldnt have it any other way
i picked up one of my cat from the street she was around 2 months old she was really sweet back but now four months later boy she is the most aggressive and dramatic cat in the world even the vet said she hasnt seen any cat as aggressive and dramatic as her btw she is doing perfectly fine she just sometimes get aggressive when you hold her coz she doesnt like to be held and the vet was giving her injection so i dont blame my cat for being aggressive ( i am scared of injections too )
I work with shelter kitties and can confirm that we are big scary monsters compared to tiny floofs. But when you earn the trust of a floof, the feeling is incomparable 💖

This video is what helped me take two spicy floofs my son brought home. One was so spicy it would make the spitting hiss at us. Now they are both little purr monsters.
My little stray floof hid for legitimately 2 minutes and came right out to mumma and was all over me and hasn't left my side since. She's so afraid of strangers, I like to think she chose me as her mummy 🩷
Actually, she sees you as her mum, yes. But she also hasn't seen anyone else as a kitten, so just assumes everyone else is probably hostile. It's important to give kittens human interaction with several people before growing up so they don't see strangers as hostile.
Fostered kittens for so long, changed so many of them my gosh does it take time. Definitely, let them sniff you. And don’t chase them, forcefully hold them, etc. let them warm up to you, if you can’t do that, do not take care of the spicy floof 🫠
Had a mama floof who’s had 4 litters sadly just lose the most recent litter due to a poor choice of original nest - saved as many as we could and got them in a warm padded nest, but they weren’t nursing properly and we had to hand feed them, but they were so weak. We’re doing our best to comfort mama, but we know she’s sad.
it’s also one of the most rewarding things i’ve ever done, i rescued a stray kitten and kept him with me for a month, at the start he’d his, scratch and bite at anyone and anything, by the end he’d literally be glued to people’s legs. he was so adorable and i miss him but i know he’s happy and in a loving home now :)
Also slight tip do not boop the snoot. Their snoot is highly sensitive and when they don't trust or like you that's a no! When you can properly book the snoot and they don't have a bad reaction then you clearly have a bond and they trust you!
Thought id add to this 3 months later but the same goes with belly scratches, some cats might love it but it takes a while because their belly is super sensitive, good news tho if it goes on it's back in the first place it trusts you enough not to rip it to shreds
@cbalt2243 I highly agree! I have two cats one hates his stomach being rubbed and will get up if it happens. The other he allows you to pet, just matters on the cat because I've met some who do not care at all.
One of the best instructional videos I have ever seen. She covers the basics, outlines the plan, puts it into effect, and everything is adorable. Five stars!!
I love these videos! I’m almost crying though cause they look just like my lil black boys when they were kittens, too, found by the side of a road with another sister who unfortunately did not make it. Thank you for what you are doing, and the lives you are saving
Have you ever tried the "just grab the floof and accept the spice" method. This is where you grab the floof, allow it to bite the crap out of you, then when it sates it blood lust and calms down you give it the snack-o's. This method is significantly quicker but significantly more painful with larger floofs.
I found my kitten in an apartment stairwell. He came right up to me and crawled all over my lap and then I just had to take him home. His first visit to the vet went fantastic because he was given tons of treats and loving and compliments
Trust me, you have these problems with big floofs too. My parent’s German Shepherd is nervous around me and won’t even accept treatos from me if my parents aren’t in the room.
I raised 2 feral extra spicy floors. One is still skittish and the other runs chittering happily to me when I yell “GOOD MORNING BABY GIRL!” I love them ❤❤
The shorthair floof looks like my Juniper bug when she was a kitten. She passed away last month at a year and 10 months old (spontaneous aggressive cancer) so this warms my heart seeing another kitten like her getting set up for a happy life.
But glad this brings you joy- moving back to my family’s house and caring for the family cats really helps me heal from the unexpected loss of my beloved BeBe cat.
I remember having a fluff 😊. Best advice I can give is that if you’re faced with a scenario in which you must part ways with your fluff(😢) just remember you’ll recover, don’t let that loss, no matter what the circumstances, consume you. Persevere and overcome👍!
I once wanted to adopt a kitten when I moved. My nee next door neighbors were a very nice couple and I mentioned it. The husband worked in a large warehouse and told me there was a family of feral kittens living in the warehouse and he said he’d try to get me one sometime. About a week later he showed up with a cardboard box. His arms were shredded! I thanked him profusely and let the kitten go inside the house. He hid, out of sight for about 4 days until that day I sat on the floor in the hall eating a tuna sandwich. He came slowly to me and I shared with him - at a distance at first, then slowly he became tame. He was the smartest and most wonderful cat I have had!
I usually have a rope on stand by for any spicy stray floofs, they be scared at first, then immediately forget about being scared once they start playing, then you get the cuddles
another tip is to avoid making eye contact and not to face the kitten directly. this reduces their fear because cats perceive eye contact and staring as a threat. so it's best to avoid doing so. when i got my kitten, she immediately trusted me when i started petting her without eye contact or anything. i guess she's just trusting.

My "spicy" floof wasn't at all spicy, he immediately started snuggling with me and now he's a big floof, almost 4 :) Update: It's his birthday! He's 4 and super adorable
What do you mean by “a mama is ideal”? Anyways, love the black cats, i had one, but he passed away infront of my bedroom door where i was sleeping :c But yeah, they are ALL SO CUTE-
If you’re adopting a kitten, always get at least two. They need a companion to help them learn to cat, and it’s a big help in teaching manners. If they hurt the other kitten, they’ll hear about it and learn that’s a no. Too many people don’t know how to teach a cat that no part of another living being is a toy, but the co-kittens will play with each other and learn what level of aggression is acceptable. They also comfort each other, snuggle together, and play with each other. Kittens need lots of vigorous play time and it can be hard for a human to give them enough time and fun even with multiples, so having The Best Kitten Toy Ever, another kitten, is a big help.
After fostering dozens of teeny tiny floofs, one super consistent thing I've noticed is that they like the texture of denim blue jeans. Sit near them and encourage them to climb on your legs and lap. Their little claws get a good grip on denim and I think it either feels good or makes them feel secure. Soon they'll be climbing all over your legs (while sitting) and getting very used to your scent. Also if you sit on the floor with your legs stretched out, I think your legs (being far from your face and hands) seem like a much less threatening part of you to interact with.
I worked at a shelter and my favorite flood taming technique was the baby purritto with lots of pets. Works best when they are small. Hold them as I clean their kennel and stuff a toy down my shirt to put in their kennel so they are near my smell constantly. Worked so well that a kitten for a while would only let me hold her. She got adopted eventually. As for adults that were semi feral lots and lots of patience, treats, and blankets and toys with my smell all over them. Loooots of talking and contact.
I would also recommend giving them a shirt or something you’ve worn for a day. By acclimating them to your scent in a space they can feel safe in they can get used to you without you actually being there. Just make sure it’s nothing frilly or with loose threads. They might try to eat it.
