      @@spartanswatchreviews6558 funnily enough, I was looking at a Seamaster and an Aquaracer sitting next to each other in a jeweller's window the other day, the Tag's second hand missed every one of the indices, sadly it was outclassed completely in the "previously cherished" window. There was also a Datejust, a Submariner and about 3 or 4 other Rolex watches in that section and the Tag was the only watch with a second hand that was missing it's indices. It was also the newest watch in that section. I suppose, to be fair, I should also say it was the least expensive to buy new too but still, not a cheap watch (£2500 new in the shop across the mall), I expected better from Tag, at the asking price you could buy a tonne of watches that are put together better.

    I was given this same Aquaracer (except with a metal band and the blue dial) for my 22 birthday, and came to wear it daily 8 months later. I dropped it 8 inches onto carpet and it stopped working immediately. I sent it back to Watch Maxx and they "fixed it" and sent it back 4 months later. It stopped working two days after that. Maybe I can't generalize the fragility of mine, but I was a bit disappointed.

      As I said in the video, that Sellita is the cheapest acceptable option, so TAG's movement choice definitely doesn't help with durability or reliability.

  • @xtellur

    Sad that you had problems with movement in aquaracer, but it is not lowest grade movement, it is not decoraded (finishing is not grade), but it has incablock and with the accordace to sellita web site incablock is used only in top and chronometre grades. I have 2019 aquaracer and it goes +3 sec a day.

    Tag Heuer makes and has made beautiful watches. However, they cut corners in terms of quality. I had an Aquaracer, and the crown stem has worn out within 2 years, thus unable to screw down the crown. For the asking price, you can get so much better quality watches on other brand (Sinn, Hamilton, Longines, Oris) that it seems like one buys the watch for the name, and not for the quality of the watch. Honestly, when i saw that movement, how it's not regulated or decorated, and how they used plastic framing for the movement, it REALLY threw me off. I didn't expect such poor quality on a $2400 watch. Thank you for shining the side of Tag Heuer that the brand seems to be hiding with their ambassadors.

  • @skyzthelimitap5515

    I just traded in the tag aquaracer after having to send it in twice for grinding when trying to wind the watch, always ran 20+ seconds a day all this within the year of ownership I wouldn't recommend this as a substitute to the Omega which I also own from 1995 and that is a workhorse. After trading in the tag, I have purchased the Rolex op39 dark rhodium. Beautiful timepiece flys under the radar too boot.

  • @1114gabby
    @1114gabby 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I have a tag heuer Aqua racer caliber 5. I had to send it to Tag twice for warrantee work on the movement. Works well now...but maybe runs a tad bit fast. Overall I really like it but agree that Tag should spend less on ambassadors and adverts and more on the watches and quality control. I was also looking at a Breitling Superocean II at the time I bought the Tag and wish I had gone with it. I probably will end up getting one. All that to say the aquaracer is a well constructed watch and has a great look on the wrist. The size is just right I think. But to potential buyers I would certainly look at other brands and compare.

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558
      @spartanswatchreviews6558  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, the movement quality unfortunately suffers because TAG keeps cost down on the worst possible place, which is really unfortunate, because the still can make good watches when they want to.

      I had this exact watch and just like you, BACK to Tag Heuer twice in a year for warranty work. The watch wasn't even a year old and the power reserve would go down to so little it wouldn't run through the night, it would stop dead on my wrist or on a winder. I'll never ever buy a Sellita powered watch again. Ended up selling it (with factory warranty and like 4 years on retailer warranty left cause I'm not a monster) and replaced it with the Omega in this video.

I have the version of 600 meters water resistant with helium escape valve 41 mm case size. and I still have accuracy of - 4sec a day. Omega is great but in this model the movement is ETA that modify for coaxial escapement. the coaxial escapement is not that efficient in that movement. only in 2018 model Omega did a good job. the craft in that Omega is not that great I definitely prefer the Tag over that Omega in craft

      I just want to clarify something about that movement. It's NOT a standard base grade movement. It's a SW200 premium movement. You can tell because it has Incabloc shock protection. It's not a decorated movement but it is a good as an SW200 gets without being chronometer certified.

    • @stangresham6024
      @stangresham6024 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jonnieinbangkok Yes, TAG uses Durlin nylon. Officially, they say it's used to increase shock protection. TAG watches have used them since the 70s so it's not anything new and they aren't the only premium brand to use them.
      I know people make comments like, "Rolex doesn't use spacers." Yes, that's true but Rolex makes their cases for a specific watch and a specific movement. Other brands use the same case for multiple movements. An Aquaracer case accommodates a chronograph, automatic and quartz movements.
      In the grand scheme of things, TH probably save less than $1 to use nylon over metal. So the money saved couldn't even pay Tom Brady's endorsement contract.
      My issue with this watch is the Sellita movements. My issue with TAG is too many cheap models. The Formula One models should be rebranded as Formula by TAG and eliminate the quartz models.
      Anyway, the AQ Cal 5 is a reasonably built quality built watch.

      @@stangresham6024 I like the design and build quality of the TH case but using the same case to fit in so many different movements (and using plastic spacers to tighten things up) kinda cheapens the watch...and they're not THAT cheap to buy.

      vw audi owns ducati but they are not audis or vw by a long way, or even Lamborghini. Brand ownership is different. You're saying 2 independent companies are making an in house watch when one company is only buying components from the other.
      They aren't rolls Royce and Bentley in the 70s, two sides of the same coin but mearly two coins in the same pocket

  • @kaisoerfjord6794
    @kaisoerfjord6794 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    (6:33) - The frequency of 25,200 beats per minute = 7 BEATS PER SECOND, and the term «Hertz» actually MEANS «CYCLES PER SECOND», where «cycles» actually = «SOUND-CYCLES» and actually refers to EACH BEAT-SOUND, EACH «tic» and EACH «tac», so that EACH back-and-forth sway of the pallet fork against the jewel of the balance-spring totals 2 BEATS, 1 BEAT EACH TIME the pallet fork’s JEWEL STRIKES against the BALANCE SPRING’s jewel, one BEAT as it strikes from one side and then another BEAT as it strikes from the other side, NOT 0.5 beat ecah time one jewel strikes the other. 1 Hertz isn’t the mehanical back-and-forth cycle of the pallet fork but the SOUND-cycle of each jewel-against-jewel STRIKE. What does that mean? It means the movement feequency in «Hertz» is 7, not «three point five», ok?

    It is sad the Aquaracer has a lower grade movement over the Carrera yet they are advertised as the same. I owned the WAY2110 and had issues in transit for servicing (scratches) and got a refund and later bought the Carrera WAR201E. I did have movement issues with my Aquaracer but not with the Carrera. I want that same Aquaracer back again but not sure if it is worth the issues that might arise. I bought the Carrera with the refund money so I really dont even have the money to spend like that so I would be super pissed if I get that Aquaracer I fell in love with again and it stops working on me.

    This comparison is like Volkswagen vs. Audi. Both are german reliable nice cars but that is it. They are simply not in a same league and should not expect the same quality. p.s I also have an aquaracer with quartz movement, becuase when it comes to automatic I would stick with Omega.

      it would be more interesting to see a comparison between the aquaracer and a fully modded skx (4r36 movement, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, strapcode bracelet) since there is a huge price gap even with the added cost.

  • @shipmate3577
    @shipmate3577 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like both. Just wish TAG Heuer would drop the TAG part of its name. I think the Aquaracer is a decent, less expensive, alternative to the Omega Seamaster. You can buy the Seamaster for around $2500 and Aquaracer for around $1800 on grey market. Pretty disappointed though in the Aquaracer's movement... that's garbage. No wonder why watch enthusiasts categorize TAG as a "fashion" watch and nothing close to having horological value.

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558

      What really sucks is the Carrera uses a higher end "Calibre 5" movement that does not have these problems (I know because I had an Aquaracer and returned it and got a Carrera) and I know it would not cost them more than a few dollars to just use the same movement in both.

    I'm in a dilemma..choose an oris aquis date or a tag hauer aquaracer calibre 5 automatic..? Aquis costs 1580 euros and the tag costs 1770euros.. which one would you choose..? And i think they both have the same automatic mechanism.. plz help me

    • @MateiRadulescu1
      @MateiRadulescu1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ORIS has the ETA while the TAG has sellita, both are almost the same specs mechanism but apparently experts say ETA is a bit better (it's been around for many years as well so it's tested for time).
      Ultimately it's what you like best. The ORIS is considerably thicker and also larger in size I believe. So think about how big your wrists are also. With Oris if you have wrists smaller than 7 inch it will be difficult I think.
