What do you do with the condenser fan wires that hooked on to the overload and relay? Also it would be helpful to know where the control wires come from. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching. The condenser fan will be connected to a cold control thermostat, or a control board in newer models. This might branch off from a shared wire harness but this will look different depending on the refrigerator model. If you're curious, this video explains the overall wiring of the cooling circuit, as well as the compressor starting circuit: th-cam.com/video/C4oB5mnZ4GM/w-d-xo.html
Great video, thanks! Just ordered one and hoping to fix a free mini fridge I found on the side of the road (: It already had one in there but I guess I broke it when I was messing around with it. Hoping it's an easy relay fix and not something more serious. How often do relays go bad and how often do compressors go bad? This fridge is from 2009...
Thank you for watching. A relay or capacitor is more likely to fail before a compressor, and over 15 years that's not unreasonable to have one of those parts fail within that. The compressor can be tested for resistance, we have a video that shows how to do this. 6 minutes in shows the resistance tests: th-cam.com/video/NND8J8dXqJ0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching. The Universal Relay has a built in overload protector. The 3 in 1 means there is a relay, capacitor and overload protector all included. www.amresupply.com/part/RCO410-3N1-RELAY-1-4-1-3HP
Good afternoon I'm from Trinidad and Tobago, can you do a video on a Whirlpool 18 cubic with the universal 3 in 1 start I would like to know how to fix mine because I enjoy watching your videos
I have a 5 cu chest freezer that's been out for a year, got the 3 in 1 and I'm so lost, blew and entire outlet checking to see if I did it right... clearly not lol I need help :(
Thanks for watching. Not all 3n1 starters are the same. There are matched based on the compressor horsepower rating. Either that was wrong, or the wiring when you connected was wrong. As well there could be an issue with your compressor. You can test the resistance of the compressor windings by following the steps in this video: th-cam.com/video/NND8J8dXqJ0/w-d-xo.html This video also shows how to individually test each start component, so you can always replace the start relay, overload or the capacitor individually.
I don't have the original relay for the whirlpool chest freezer model S-03-XEH11CDXGW that is why iam asking if there is a substitute that I can use for this model
Thanks for watching. Not all parts lists are available for all models. It really depends on the manufacturer, the age of the appliance etc. You'll have to do some searching for parts list. If you are unable to find a relay, then you can still use a 3 n' 1 universal relay.
Thanks for watching. It would depend on what starting components are used in the compressor. You'd still have to match based on motor horsepower rating and check that the capacitor is within the rated value.
Thanks for watching. You can see various Universal Relays here and there will be some rated for higher voltages: www.amresupply.com/catalog/Relay-Overload-Capacitor-And-Relay-Capacitor-Combinations-660359-AK2P
Thank you for your amazing videos. I got curious and wanted to know what is inside these kits, so I made this video: th-cam.com/video/zqhkvXPjtKc/w-d-xo.html I also referred to your video and used a couple of pictures from it. Can I have your permission for that?
You're welcome, we're glad you are finding our videos helpful! Thanks for sharing your video it is interesting to see what is inside these 3 n' 1 kits. We appreciate you reaching out. The way that you showed the photos and gave credit on the video works so you have our permission to use that in that slide show. If you want to help any other people more, it might be worth adding a link to the description of your video. This one includes the "how it works". relay testing but also capacitor and overload: th-cam.com/video/NND8J8dXqJ0/w-d-xo.html

Thank you, we're glad that you think so! Vance does a great job bringing this info to life!
Im working on a freezer with a 12mfd capacitor. Do i have to reconnect the capacitor? It looks like you didn't

How does protection work if it isn't attached to the compressor like the original? Won't it not heat up and risk the compressor failing/catching fire?
