      I feel I do not need to save any
      more. My two Swiss pensions
      BVG and AHV more than cover
      my basic expenses. At least it
      is a joy not to worry that money
      needs to earned. Switzerland
      looks after it's pensioner.

      nice dust collectors. Here in

      wooden or stone floors are

    Really love the emphasis that every item we buy is the amount of time we need to work to get it. And asking yourself "am I willing to work x hours to get this?" is really eye-opening. Hope many people see this and I hope we as society start to slowly reconsider how we value our time, our posessions and our energy. I'm ready for that. :)

    When it comes to stopping impulse buying I have learned a very simple trick.
    I love to shop. Sometimes I do it as a pick-me-up and sometimes out of sheer boredom. Whenever I find myself gravitating toward Amazon for that, I allow myself to shop, to browse and look at whatever I want. Then I click the thing into my basket and then immediately move it to my save for later. In my brain it feels as if I have bought that thing even though I haven't, and having it out of sight a bit allows me to come back to it after a couple of days or a week and decide if I really want it. Often I will delete things on there that I just don't want anymore, but sometimes I will allow myself to pick one thing off there and move it to my basket if I have the money enough for a treat. That way it feels more luxurious a thing than if I had just bought it straight away, more of a treat than it would have felt had I just clicked impulsively and bought it straightaway.

    I’m doing a no buy year this year. I’ve already done a cash flow forecast and this give me the motivation knowing at the end what i could save. I tried to do this last year but with COVID that soon went out of the window but I did really well until March. In past years I just spent money without thinking sometimes spending more then I earned and luckily I had savings but long term you can’t keep doing this. Watching these videos also keeps me motivated.

    Wait before purchase is a great tip, the longer you think about buying something the more time you have to find the right thing for you, and because you spent so long thinking it over your way less likely to regret your purchase. I end up loving the purchase even more. (I do that for everything not in the standard monthly shop, from printing out pictures, to buying new sheets or towels to getting a new tattoo).

    Hi Kay, thanks for the great video! My husband and I saved over £30,000 so that we could travel the world for a year without particularly needing to work. Unfortunately, we chose to set off on our travels at the beginning of 2020 and so Covid19 brought us straight back home to the UK, after only a few months travelling. We worked our butts off to save and used many of the tips you mentioned in your video! ✨

    Great tips Kay. WelL done for your hard work to achieve your dream. My husband is the saver. If it wasn’t for him and our parents we wouldn’t have been able to get a house five years ago. However, my spending habits have afforded us lovely furnishings and my bottom drawer was so epic that I still haven’t had to buy washing powered, loo roll or cleaning products for four years, which has been so helpful especially in this pandemic. I also second living with parents, I wouldn’t change that time again, especially now looking back spending that time with loved ones. Do it and enjoy it.

    Realising what each monthly direct debit adds up to over the course of a year can be a real eye-opener. I once went without a tv subscription of any kind (including terrestrial cable tv) for a year and saved up enough to go and visit a friend abroad. I also discovered a lot more free time in my life! And also not aspiring to a lifestyle of paying other people to do stuff, out of laziness. I used to be very guilty of this. Because I’m older (49) I think it’s easier for me to remember a time before the internet and social media, plus what my parents’ lifestyle was like growing up. What many people consider ‘essential’ now were total luxuries then - e.g. my Mum never has a mani/pedi or facial in her life and takes care of her own eyebrows! 😀

    Congratulations! Family put me in debt. Live within your means and save for a rainy day; know all your outgoing bills and the increases, and add XYZ for emergencies. Beware about inflation and means testing and any news laws, rules and regulations. Governments have a tendency of generating more bills for everybody. Have a fixed mortgage or pay for your house. Government demands you take the job that is available. Repair jeans - add patches. Make your clothes last; when they get old then make patchwork cushions, then rags, and then recycle the material. Banks are only a storage place; they are money grabbers, so watch out for the small print! Pension plans - the owners of the companies are greedy and often corrupt and on the maturity date they do not pay out and they have gone bust. Result: you end up with nothing. Find multiple ways to generate an income. Buy some shares that constantly generate dividend yields, even when you are sleeping! Buy another house and rent it out to your local council. Live part time in the UK and part time in another EU country - end up paying less taxes. Make money by writing books or a calendar or a coffee mug with an image of Echo and copyright them and publish them and sell them on Amazon or other websites; contact Hallmark (greeting cards) and set up a licence agreement with them so they sell your copyright cards of Echo in their shops or online, whilst you are sleeping or busy with other tasks. Pets are big business. Don't ask for fortunes, but a negotiated amount can generate you an extra income. Photographers and artists do this. If you are the sole legal owner of your copyright photos and sole legal owner of Echo then you pay less taxes on your royalty income. Tax authorities can advise you. Consult UK CAB and an intellectual property lawyer to help you. Also become a cat pet product tester for pet accessories and get paid for it (water fountains, litter boxes, safe and healthy indoor pet cat toys). In the free junk mail cut out pictures of what you want, dream or wish for and pin it on your fridge and below write down the cost price. Get a tin can and with all your change pop it inside the tin can. When the tin can is full then put it in a bank account and when you return home deduct the amount you have banked from the cost price of your dream picture. Also invest in some stocks and shares that generate an income. Turn your heating down and wear an extra jumper. Where there are drafts use your old jeans and stuff the legs with old worn out socks. Then sew the ends and place in front of the drafty door. It slows down and reduces the cold entering the house. Make time to wash and clean your car and house yourself; do not leave damp wet washing inside the house. Take advantage of any discounts that utility companies provide (e.g. cheaper tariffs if you run your washing machine late at night). There are many ways to generating financial income. Some elderly homes allow pet owners to take their pets to them so elderly persons have the pleasure of stroking a pet and letting the pet sit on their lap or under your guidance taking a small dog for a gentle stroll around the gardens. Elderly people very much love stroking a pet or a pet sitting on their lap. They find it very therapeutic and look forward to the pets next visit (especially if nobody else visits them). When is xxxx pet coming to visit?

    How did you work so many hours while struggling with fibromyalgia? I have endometriosis and I had to drop from 16 hours to 12 hours each week due to pain issues... I would love to work more hours each week but it's not physically possible for me and has nearly costed me my life before. I try to save in little ways, but it's obviously a lot more difficult when you cannot work intense amount of hours that most people can manage.

    • @Livingthelifeyoulove
      @Livingthelifeyoulove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I got sick in January and it lasted about a month, I then really suffered with CFS and I’m still struggling with that. I have fibromyalgia but it’s more of a constant dull achey pain and that flared up the worst this last few months (I knew it was bad when I spent so long in the bath every day trying to relax my joints and muscles) and was taking pain killers constantly to get through a shift which then turned into any day even when at home. I haven’t taken painkillers since I was a teenager but I was taking them like they were sweets which was so scary. They were also giving me side effects of sleep paralysis 😩 which is when I reduced my hours in half and then had to leave in the end as I was absolutely exhausted. It’s insane how quickly health can deteriorate, things I could once do so easy are so hard now and take so much longer to recover form.
      I’m so sorry to hear you’re suffering. I should have addressed this in the video as working long hours isn’t always accessible to everyone. Side hustles are an absolute blessing when you’re struggling with your health. Wishing you all the best🤍

    • @KristyStrange
      @KristyStrange 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Livingthelifeyoulove Thank you for this comment. This is basically how I live my life - constant pain killers (which I hate, but need so that I don't wind up in hospital) and covered in hot water bottles (because our house doesn't have a bath). A lot of my "big" spending actually tends to be on things to reduce pain. It's a tough balance since I don't earn very much. I was supposed to have a second surgery this past spring, but covid has meant that I'm still waiting a year later... I've continued to work throughout the pandemic (I work in a supermarket) but between the pain flares, medication, fatigue, constant body aches... it's impossible for me to work the job I do for long hours (I work 3x a week with 4 hours shifts). I'm very lucky to have a husband who works various jobs, but it can definitely be a struggle when I wish I could help more financially.

      If it’s just physical limitations, a lot of companies have realized the value or remote work and places like insurance companies and service companies now hire work from home. I think you can find these on indeed or the Facebook group the rat race. Lots of legitimate WFH jobs, that usually are decent pay.

      @@QFilmz Typical attitude of a spoiled brat, I dislike middle class people.. I find them very judgmental most have fake personalities and like to pretend they’re much more wealthy than they really are. Normal working class men and woman don’t have a leg up in society, but they are much more grounded and real people with generous hearts.
