Hi folks! A few questions have been asked about the mattress and we are happy to answer. The mattress wasn't included in the video so we could highlight the woodworking but it is a very practical design none the less. It (the mattress) is sectioned into three pieces that fold together against the wall where the tub is. While the "hangout" area is deployed the mattress is a seat cushion and back support but when you change the setup into a bed, the mattress folds out to cover the whole bed area. Bedding is stored in the compartment to the right of the galley cabinet and can be accessed from a top or side door. To take a tub simply move the mattress to the other side of the "hangout" area and dive in ;). Hope this helps!

Personally I don't see the point with a tub in a van but I really like how it's been integrated in to the build. The craftmanship and build quality in this van looks amazing.

Hoorah.....finally someone who realizes that taking care of your own personal needs rates at the top! I can't believe how many people fix up these expensive vans with no toilet or bath.....even though there is really enough for both! Money is spent on everything but, like fancy tile, fancy floor.......etc.....but not the things that are the most important. So again.....thank you for showing how important and easy it is! Your van is wonderful, and hope your travels are exciting and safe.

Lots of van conversions have dedicated showers or an outside shower at least. I give these guys credit for finding a way to fulfill the client's requirements, but a tub is really extremely impractical. It probably takes 30+ gallons of water to fill that thing up enough and then you just end up dumping all of that water. The energy to heat the water is wasted too. It's a feature that in most cases would only be useful while on the grid which makes it an odd choice of priorities for a 4x4 camper. Still, kudos to the builders for making it happen.

    • @flopsiejmcardle
      @flopsiejmcardle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +38

You can sit in that tub and shower quite easy, with out being all cramped up in a tiny shower stall. filling the tub could be a rare indulgence, but something that could never happen in a stall

I love how people comment asking why this, why that...It was the preference of the person requesting the build. Everything isn't for everybody. If you don't want a tub, don't have one put in your build. The question as to the cost of it, not everyone wants to be stationary in their living quarters. People do as they see fit to do with their money. If you like the build, say so, if not, don't. It's just that simple. I really love the build. Thanks for sharing.

I think it's pretty damn 😎!I would utilize the tub for all the stuff that would be going outdoors, when I set up camp...I LOVE my epsom salt baths and little rubber duckies still make me giggle. When my daughter became a tween and all growed up-like, I kept feeling like something was missing until I saw and bought a rubber ducky and put it back in there... Lol! The missing link! IF I ever was able to do something like this, I would HAVE to have the window lowered, so I could look out and likely photograph the scenery from that vantage point,"The Duck visits..."is still a fun fantasy for this aging, Humpty Dumpty of sorts, free spirited, adventurer of a woman! Great build I LOVE the light color of the bambo! GREAT JOB and HAPPY TRAVELING in our minds and for "really real"! I hope to , too-soon enough!

Wow amazing. I read your comments on the mattress and I understand about showing off the wood, I just really wish this video was a little longer to show off your creative on how you got that 4” pad in there as well and how nice that also looked. This van is amazing with everything in there and so much storage. I lived in Japan and this is very spot on. The guy can figure out a tent for a shower before his bath from here.
Seeing how the Japanese will leave the water in the bath for days the 2 tanks of water and the tub filled is going too be a lot of water. You could fill up at the hot springs for a weekend and park outside of work for a week and never run out of spring water.
Just put some fold out chairs and tents on the rooftop and you are living large with even a patio. (I know it was not requested by the costumer just if I was getting that van)
Well anyway it’s all very well done and I see there is even just a little bit of storage by the doors when you open them in the back.
I am not a big outdoor kind of guy but if I had this van I would go from hot springs to hot springs all around the world. I would be so clean. 😂 also to the beach. This van just screams “Get out there and do something, even if it’s just to watch a sunset.”
    Really great job guys.

Hey, why not? People are willing to spend well over $100K (some of them cost over a million) for classic muscle cars, that only cost a few thousand dollars, when they first rolled off the mass production assembly lines over 50 years ago. And all you can do with those cars is drive them. You cant live, cook, take a bath, comfortably spend an entire day or sleep in them all night without waking up freezing cold with a stiff neck. Compared to practical commuter cars, these motorhomes are ridiculously overpriced, but compared to other luxury items like expensive cars and boats, they are cheaper and twice as practical. Imagine if the stock market crashed and you lost your job and your home value dropped like a rock and you were suddenly in an upside down mortgage and behind on your car and ski boat payments. This over priced toy could suddenly become your most practical possession for years to come.

MATTRESS EXPLANATION FOR THOSE WITH NO IMAGINATION
They explained in comments that they filmed this before the mattresses were ready.
The mattresses come in 4 pieces (like in most camper vans).
Two for seats on the 2 sofa's and two as back rests for the 2 sofa's.
Then all 4 mattresses slide down in place once the table has been lowered to form one mattress to sleep on.
I swear I had to post this as I got sick of the stupid comments of "where do you store the mattress? - Duh!
And also, when having a bath, you stack the 4 mattresses on the other sofa!
Hope this stops the stupid posts from those who have no imagination or who have never seen a van life video before.

Cool design! however, I would not go with a tub and opt for more storage or a bigger toilet room with a shower. The tub seems impractical and a hassle, I can see the steam from the hot water making everything damp, especially the bedding unless it's stored in a compartment. Plus when you get out of the tub you would drip water everywhere (you said he was tall so it would be a pain drying yourself in the tub and having to slouch over and not be able to stand at full height). it would be a pain to mop up, especially when your tired and want to get into bed, which brings me to my next point of having to make the bed after the bath whilst still having condensation on the wood, which could cause mold to grow on the underside of the mattress if the wood is not dried properly. All I'm imagining is one damp, soggy mess every time you use the tub unless there is really good ventilation in the van to combat condensation build up. Please correct me if I'm wrong, or tell me the design solutions to solve these problems. Sorry for the long rant! just curious to see the actual practicality of having a tub in a van.

Yuk.
