      @Jungy_Mungerson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +150

      @@lingbing2990 It's honestly kinda unanswerable, as far as we currently understand. Sure reptiles, for the most part, don't care for their young, so naturally you'd assume they lack the ability to feel certain emotions or "show affection" and like you said, lack a "component" in their brain. However, this is all understood through the lens of how mammals behave or how their brains function/evolved.
      We used to think similarly of birds. Birds have a smooth cerebrum, so we assumed they lacked mammal level intelligence (bird brain), However, we later found that their brain evolved differently. Instead of developing wrinkles, they developed denser packed neurons. That's why corvids and parrots, despite having smooth brains, are capable of intellect that rivals Primates, in spite of lacking the components that make mammals smart. Even chickens are smarter than people give them credit for, and as shown in some dodo vids, are capable of showing a level of affection, I didn't even know was possible.
      The same could possibly be true about some reptiles (monitor lizards, tortoises, etc). Personally, I doubt there capable of complex emotions but it's impossible to say they're incapable of feeling simple ones or showing affection in some shape or form.
      That being said, it's healthy to never project too much "human emotions" on to other animals. And sorry for the wall of text.

    • @jasonsimpson1397
      @jasonsimpson1397 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@Jungy_Mungerson Yeah, it's hard to say for sure. Most don't care for their young, but most crocodilians do, so it's possible and potentially environmentally triggered. Babies are easy targets and attract predators, so it's generally safer to hatch them and leave, but in captivity, it's not a concern.
      It'd be interesting to see studies on parental instincts between wild and captive bred.

I've had cats that were born and died, I've had family members born later, and these turtles are still tanking through life.

      That would be traumatic to tiptoe! He has grown up with her - he relies on her and is happy with her. If something happens with her while she is young, she needs a clause in her will now that says what to do with him. There are good options, it's just returning to the wild is not necessarily a good thing. He has no survival skills for that environment (where the heck is "the wild" for his species anyway?)
