    Looks like the campsite has grown massively since I went there with you Karl, doesn't seem to have spoilt chances of seeing wildlife though, maybe quite the opposite.

      Great to see you post Chris, yes, that was almost 20 years ago. The thing is that someone was killed by an elephant recently at the other, nearby campsite so it’s the only one open plus it was a Thai Bank Holiday weekend which is always a busy time at Khao Yai. It’s a lot quieter on a random week day

    Karl, you are a master of the craft of adventure travel and stories and experiences. You put other vloggers to shame by recording and producing it all on your mobile phone. Content is king and you are the king of the most interesting content. Many choose to record when walking down a street in Pattaya but you capture the real Thailand from a rare perspective unseen by many foreigners who choose to reside in Thailand. Your films are compelling and should be an inspiration for us to get off our fat arses and go out and explore Karl's Thailand! Nuff said?

    Another interesting vlog.I have been to Khao Yai a couple of times but only stayed on the edge of the park - it looks amazing, deep inside. Campsite looked fun - the folks are always nice at campsites here arent they.
    Im baffled why you only have 8K subs. I mean its good, 8k, nothing to be trifled at. But its a good channel, and well-made. Feels like you should have way more.

    a good tip i learned many years ago at Pha Gluay Mai campground is when you go out walking for the day, leave your tent open with nothing in it... otherwise the ever hungry & mischievous macaques will rip it open and ransack it looking for food

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know what? Those macaques are so clever that they unzipped 2 layers of my tent even though it’s a different style to the NP ones they are used to and went through all the pockets of my rucksack looking for food. At first I thought a human thief was responsible until I noticed that nothing had been taken and there was stuff that an opportunistic thief would no doubt have taken. They found no food and left.

    I would love to visit places like this but I get bitten to death by mosquitoes. Have you any advice on how to cope with this? Great vlog. I subscribed as I watch Brian Flowers and he gave you a shout.

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The local stores sell insect repellents that are pretty effective but it doesn’t stop various insects hovering around in the jungle (not particularly mosquitoes), especially in the Rainy Season. In all honesty I don’t get bothered much by mosquitoes, I take B vitamins and some say that vitamin B1 is effective in preventing them from biting. In general insects are less of a problem outside of the Rainy Season (June-October)

    I’ve driven across the Serengeti 40 years ago when there were no Japanese tourists in land rovers, took 3 days and nights sleeping in my dads car….drove from Lusaka to Mombasa……also stayed in the Kruger park many times an£ even worked there…..so you can understand when I say this is just a bit tame…….man, I could tell you some stories,!!!

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the first things we had to do when we had a group of tourists who’d been on African safari’s before was tone down there expectations. The National Parks here are tame in terms of wildlife compared to the African ones. Asiatic elephants tend to keep more to the forest in the day, tigers are mainly solitary animals that are rarely seen. I wish we could have driven up to a pride of tigers lazing in the sun like you can African lions but there rarity and nature means that just wasn’t an option. I’d love to see some of those places in Africa

    • @daviddenham1511
      @daviddenham1511 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karlsthailand trivia fact….much as I despise circuses, did you know all elephants that have ever been in any circus have ALWAYS been Asian elephants?…..African elephants are too wild and cannot be tamed!……you will never see anybody riding an elephant in Africa…..lived there 23 years
