  • This video compares Elliot Goldenthal's two tracks "Descent" from the "Batman Forever" score and "Chilling Chase" from the "Batman & Robin" score. Both are my favorite tracks from each score and the "Descent" scene or "Getting Under His Cape" is my favorite scene in "Forever".

one thing for descent: You know the music means...shit is gonna go down! Batman to the rescue with that awesome acting from Kilmer.

I have compared these two films' scores, and it's almost, second for second, EXACTLY the same.

A lot of the musical score was essentially recycled due to time restraints. (And Mr. Goldenthal has rarely done sequels anyway...) But it IS all re-recorded, which is nice. Cool to hear the subtle differences in the stylings IMO.
Although, the re-purposing of the Two-Face waltz in Batman & Robin was a little upsetting. Wish that wouldn't have made a return appearance, since the character doesn't.

@@systemmonitor5295It's throughout the score. Here's the original from Batman Forever. Listen for this throughout Batman & Robin.

Look up "Two Face Three Step" from the Batman Forever soundtrack. It's all over the Batman & Robin score. But it was originally meant to just be Two Face's theme. Both the rhythm (BUM bum bum, BUM bum bum and melody dum di-dum, di-dum, di-dum) show up in Batman & Robin.

I wish the complete score of "Batman Forever" that was released by La La Land Records repeated the theme as the Batmobile heads up to answer the signal in the track "Descent". The movie was "meh" and "Batman & Robin" was just plain terrible, however Elliot Goldenthal is awesome. Loved that he pulled a "James Horner" with one song in "Batman Forever", if you are a film score fan you know what I mean.

Both films had epic scores. Forever was the only epic film out of the two though!
    1.) Batman
    2.) Dark Knight
    3.) Batman Returns
    4.) Batman Forever
    5.) Batman Begins
    6.) Batman and Robin
In my opinion in terms of actual films Batman is my favourite

He didn't reuse the exact score, he reused elements of the Forever score in the B&R score because there in the same series. A lot of tweaks and additions were made to the B&R score. Also the theme for Batman is written and used so why wouldn't you use it again, just add on to it.

  • @Blastaar7

@Pct1theory nah i think it's the same, even the music when they're falling is exactly the same as it was when batty and robin were falling at the end of forever.

Well for the videos that I have been uploading I've been choosing very similar parts to see what has been changed and for the viewer to say "oh, interesting". With Elfman's scores they actually sound similar as well. He also reused elements and added on with things such as using the choir more. Goldenthal used more effects and sounds to add on to his score. Also different people do different things.

Forever is a perfectly awesome Batman movie that gets dragged down because of Batman & Robin. It was a huge hit at the time and I still no no shortage of people who love it, at least.

Batman Forever is garbage just like Batman and Robin, nobody liked it, it only did well because they marketed it the right way which got people in the theaters but after everyone saw it no one wanted to see the sequel, which is why Batman and Robin failed in theaters.

I like both Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Love the bright neon visual styles juxtaposed against the dark blacks of Gotham City at night. The scores were wonderful too.
I think these films get a lot of undeserved hate. The silver age & 1960's Batman get nowhere near this level of hatred - if anything the opposite! They're beloved and have their own fanbase.
I think all four of the 89 - 97 Batman films are spectacular, and Batman Forever and Batman & Robin are two of my favorites. (Although, objectively, the 1989 film is the superior one of the pack) I still enjoy the whole series, though. Much prefer it to the preachy Nolan trilogy (although it's stellar too). Sad to see all films after Rises have continued to go down a darker and grittier direction.
Joel Schumacher knew not to take the films too seriously. They're like slightly darker live-action Superfriends, and I love it.

@Pct1theory Even the screenplay from "Forever" was reused for "B&R" because actually no one cared in making a quality film but instead just a 120min excuse for continue milking the batman franchise... The latter recycled every plot point from the first. Goldenthal work on forever was one of the few positive things of the film, sadly he didn´t have the time or producers even care of letting him continue to explore the batman mythos... oh well!
