      Not really, maybe, MAYBE, if you either get a trailer to put some more stuff in, or somehow mount one of those pop-up tent/trailers. Even though it's a full size cargo van, that's not nearly enough room for even just the basic amenities. You gotta have "so much more room for activities" 😂

      People aren’t going to pay all that in the area he lives in and most people just lowball you, I seen he had listed working cars on sale with some minor paint scratches for a reasonable price and no one bought it, it’s a junkyard for a reason if no one wants it it’s going to get crushed

    So many older vehicles are being crushed nowadays and its really making it difficult across the entire country to find parts for older vehicles, some guys that have old suburbans like the blue one in the beginning of the video, looked like it had some good body parts that coulda been sold and used on other trucks, sad to see all these old vehicles being destroyed, its definitely making it harder to find junkyard parts that the dealers cant get or parts stores want too much for em or cant get em at all

    The only thing that’s a bummer is that you folks can send solid cars to the crusher. Up here in Michigan it seems like they are 50% rust by the time it ends up in a yard. I like your video style - keep up the good work.

  • @mustangboss1246
    @mustangboss1246 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Here in south africa we strip all usable parts off before crushing. Because there is always someone who will buy the parts for the cars that need them. By the time it goes to the crusher its a bare shell. You get more money that way

    The last job I did before I retired was tear down an old & build a new car shredder. Every day on the ground you could walk around and pick up a coffee can full of coins. They were mostly unusable but it was cool to know how much change was left in cars. The old shredder filled up a ship in 6 weeks and the new shredder filled up a ship in just 6 days with shredded steel. The shredder had a total weight of 1,000,000lbs and at full speed it took 3 people to load cars on the conveyor. The motor was 7,000hp and ran on 14,700 volts. The shredding wheel was 12 feet wide, 8 feet in diameter and had 14-900lb hammers rotating at 800 RPM's. The main body was 3 inches thick steel and had 5 inch thick replicable wear liner pads. It sat up on huge coil springs atop a steel form filled with concrete 9 & feet off the ground. Trademark Metals Recycling, Tampa, FL 2002. Cost of machine $6,100,000.00 with labor included. Turnkey turn around was 6 weeks.

    I used to work for an armored car company, those vans look similar to the ones we used. Company policy was driver up front, messenger in the back. I would wager a guess that the small door on the side of the van is a drop shoot for completed stops to deposit them into a safer safety box.
    And yeah, if the AC didn't work you were in for a long miserable day.

    I got an interesting idea Silas: When you get to your other yard, you should play a game where you take all the clean title cars or cars for "Parts Only" and put them up for sale for a week or so. On the last day, it's "half price day" or "one-hour half price flash sale"! If they're not gone by a week, it's game over! I'm curious to see what'll sell and what'll not!

    I used to work at a local junkyard when I was 19 here in Columbus Ohio. I operated the crusher. Granted that was back in like 1989 or 90. They had me crushing all kinds of old classics. Sometimes it was heart breaking. They didn’t even care. I mentioned to them multiple times to at least part them out but no luck. Those 1990's Suburbans, Tahoes and Silverados are starting to be quite desirable, a la square bodies of the 1970's and 1980's. It may be a good investment idea to keep them out of the crusher and set them aside.

    • @SevenSixTwo2012
      @SevenSixTwo2012 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AdventuresMadeFromScratch Give it another 5 years or so and they will certainly command premium prices, especially if the body and frame is in good shape. Right now they're still considered just an old truck and not yet a collectible.
      The 2010+ versions of them suck and the way things are going those types of trucks will be completely out of production soon, being replaced by disposable unibody EV iPads on wheels. That's when the 1990's / early 2000's models will become the new Broncos and K5 Blazers to the nostalgic fans of "real trucks".
      Crushing old Civics, Saturns, Hyundais and Caravans is one thing, but those big offroad capable body-on-frame trucks are diamonds in the rough. Truck fans do not yet know they want them, but they soon will. That's how the retro offroad truck scene goes for the last 60+ years.

    Hi Silas.
    You just crushed an identical vehicle to the one I drive now.
    I have a black & gold 1997 GMC Suburban LTE with leather captains chairs.
    Mine has 218,000 miles & is still going strong.
    I’m having a really hard time finding replacement leather seats in tan for the drivers side. Everyone I see is worse than mine.
    I know you don’t do sales. However someone reading your posts might know where I could get one?
    Keep up the great content

    Awww man… I wish I had known you had that old dodge van, I needed the window and the front headlamps and marker assemblies.

    Dam I would have actually bought that van if I had known it was that clean. That would have made a great portable shed and that’s all that I would have used it for if I would have bought it. it being armored would definitely been a bonus too. But It was way more fun watching it get crushed. And I don’t live close enough to justify the price tag that it would have costed to get it home.

    I really like how you put the armour vehicle on its side to crush it

    What makes the car crush worthy that it couldn't be saved or reused?

    Well that was interesting never saw an armored van crushed before or see what a forklift blade could do to bullet proof glass. I thought it would just chip too. Well that's quite a few cars but at least now you can go help your Dad out at his Yard.

    In the uk, we process cars a lot more, we rip the motors and transmissions out, tear the exhausts off, drain all the fuel, we literally leave cars as pretty much a bare shell
    We dont tend to crush cars anymore, we tend to put them through a shredder these days
