    When I was 22 in uni about to sit my finals in experimental physics a girl aged 18 said to me that I wouldn't understand the meaning of the word cool. Your Stirling engine is cool. :) I'm 63.

    After 4 years now, this video appears again on my recommendation. It was my first science project and I choose to make this engine works. Sadly it never worked, but I didn't stop trying until it was the due date. I submitted as it is, my teacher still giving me a good grade because I tried to craft this. For the rest of the stories I just explained how it should be worked and what material I should use, then the teacher understand the situation so I'm glad that it turns perfectly fine. 😆

    This is a remarkable engine as the designer managed to put together a few components which not only are easily available but they are not so sensitive to tuning a successful engine. The fact that the displacer is steel wool makes it light and not only a displacer but a regenerator as it retains the hot and cold ends so the air changes its temperature gradually as it goes through. What I find most remarkable is that the diameter size of the power piston is the same size as the displacer and then it is the stroke that arranges for maximum volume of air to "power transfer" the force to the power piston. Perhaps a little more attention could have been given to the crankshaft and the overhang of the flywheel. Perhaps two flywheels at either end would have dynamically balanced the engine for those who require a better performance. I would say full marks, as the fine tuning should not get more marks than the ingenuity that went into thinking out the layout of this engine. Congratulations.

    Great content man. Just a small tip. I’m a photographer and I can kinda help with the quality of this video. Get either a white piece of cardboard or a large sheet of white paper and use that as the background with your white table. Then get some studio lights. Or any white LED lights that are kinda bright. You will have professional looking videos. You might be wondering how photography might have anything to do with videography. It uses a camera, and good quality pictures/videos.
    Edit: the lights are as cheap as $40 and get up to atleast $2-$300

    Good easy to build working engine. Major crankshaft runout and flywheel that far out makes it worse. A tweak here a tweak there would smooth it out a lot. To go that far and not spend a couple more mins would be a shame. Put a spool/ spindle on one end and with light string wind it from ground level and pick something up. Measure its weight / distance lifted and as best u can time it took lift it vertically and using 550 ft .lbs per second you have a workable dyno. Calculate RPM and now have torque as well. Make modifications and try to extract more power/ efficiency. Just a thought....would be a great learning tool for any jr. Engineering student.

    • @CreativeSkillz

      Don't use coke can and body spray cans as it is made of alluminium and is good conductor of heat so the upper part of can gets heated fast. There must be temperature difference , so try to use TIN can . Mostly Room freshener cans are made of TIN , try to use them.

    • @CreativeSkillz
      @CreativeSkillz  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yesss, the displacer should be loose and move freely in the cylinder . Try to use light weight material for displacer. U can also add a counterweight equal to displacer weight on the flywheel . It will definitely work .

      rajesh bernard u need to do all calculation related to weight of rod and avoid leaks is any ur size of displacer is less or may be heavy for air to push u need a very good quality of calculation of dimensions for this to work

    Could you please tell me how this works?

    • @grosmilotQC
      @grosmilotQC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mira Hussein as the air heats up and rise past the displacer it creates a pressure witch moves the displacer downwards, than as the air cools it creates a vaccum , witch repeats the cycle but the flywheel helps significantly to keep the motion going

      isn't it necessary to add water to boil and make steam? is air sufficient? thanks!

    • @grosmilotQC
      @grosmilotQC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes the air temperature differential is sufficent to make it operate, espescially with an engine as small as this one, some engines with the piston the size of a small diner plate it can operate with only a 2 degres difference between top and bottoms, so basically just letting the engine sit on top of ice can make it function
