    I just discovered you and your music a few nights ago. I'm 58, disabled and I live alone, which I'm ok with. I'm alone but not lonely. I have 3 grown son's, two daughters in law, and 2 grandchildren. Your music is my calm place and I listen to you a lot right before I go to bed. I wish you the very best and don't ever stop singing!! ❤❤

    I don't know what it is about this documentary but I often find myself coming back to it when I'm feeling a little lost, in need of motivation and inspiration. I don't totally know why, but the mixture of her music, the cinematography, location, her intelligent words and the story are all so magical (and probably why I keep watching time and time again tbh). I've seen her perform live 3 times now (will be a 4th in Feb) and the feeling is the same there. Can't put my finger on it but whatever it is, thanks for doing what you do mags :)

      Omg I just saw this one opener band and I think it was the lead singer or something cuz he was bossing everyone around and then said he'll probably be touring for the whole year and forever with such disdain and was like im only here to watch the main act, it made me feel like they or he didnt want to be there and they dont even like producing music, i was like why are you here then? This doc gives me hope that people do genuinely like making music and capturing whats going on at the moment and singing it back.

    At 50... you resonate. I saw you in Atlanta. Surrounded by collegiate girls who couldn’t comprehend why my husband and I were in the audience. We had a wonderful time and we’re so blessed to have witnessed such a talent. We don’t get much time for ourselves, but we chose the chance to see you!! I had been a fan since the beginning and he loved you when I played the first few songs. Grow On, carefree and happy. Continue to craft, and be honest .

    • @garyshepherd9226
      @garyshepherd9226 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's check in 5 decades whether anyone remembers Maggie Rogers! Listen to Hejira - this is beyond Maggie Rogers I am afraid. She is okay and may get better. And the comparison is false anyway. You mentioned Joni - I am only responding to that as it doesn't do Maggie Rogers any favours.

    • @katebader3103
      @katebader3103 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      No need to be snarky, Gary. She reminds me of Joni Mitchell too. Honestly, it’s not your place to tell someone else what an artist means to them. If she think she’s like Joni Mitchell, then she is. Your opinion doesn’t make hers false.

    It says a lot about her that she isn't wearing stage make up or clothes to make her look more beautiful. She wears what fits her music, her style, and it entertains her audience, it gives _them_ a certain experience.
    Her motivation for her choices have _nothing_ to do with being admired or fancied. Breath of fresh air.

      Sound Smoke Whether it was talking about her point of view on this weird world or her actual external beauty, it does not matter. Calling someone beautiful is not as terrible as modern day millennials make it seem. Don't ruin this beautiful comment with your cynical mindset.

    I have always loved singing, but I never think about becoming famous or having people listening to my music. I only sing while im alone, so nobody can hear. I like my voice, I am just embarassed to show it to anyone. Not that they wont like it, I just honestly dont really know. I hope one day I can work up some courage to do what I have always dreamt of.

      Oftentimes we subconsciously hold ourselves back from taking risks and pursuing things because we are afraid of change or of looking bad. It's silly, really, but it can be really hard to overcome. When it comes to music and art, sometimes the fact that you feel blocked from taking the next step or sharing with others is an indication of how important it is. If it is what you 'have always dreamt of' as you say, I really hope you can see that it's all in your head and YOU can decide if you have 'the courage'. If you like your voice I'm sure there's nothing to be embarrassed of and maybe through sharing it you can inspire people the way Maggie inspires you! Share it with your family or friends or here on TH-cam - whatever you can think of. What's the worst that can happen?

    • @Peighter
      @Peighter 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If you ever needed someone to share you ideas or sounds with; I'm here. I think sharing art between like minded people is always a good idea and no matter what your voice sounds like, if your love for art is as big as you say it is, it's probably good.

    A great reminder that we shouldn't be afraid to be our authentic selves no matter what. This was such a magical visual presentation of her love for music and just time and space but really just appreciating whatever it is that feels like home to us. In a way, Alaska sets the visual tone of her music. That's where she finds her voice, her home; that's her escape. It's just simply beautiful. This made me want to seek my own Alaska and just, live.

    I heard your song Alaska two weeks before I went to visit there for the first time last summer. Your music speaks volumes to me, and I love your outlook on life. I plan on moving to Alaska one day and this video makes me miss it even more

    It feels like a privilege to get to do this with my life. It's my job to see the world and report back. It's my job to feel things fiercely. And it's my job to be present.

    Thank you so much Maggie! I am a singer too, and you inspire me a lot. Helped me accepting my authencity and the vulnerability. Thanks for doing everything with so much love. Everytime I'm a little down or think on giving up I listen to your songs and watch videos of you spreading your message. I hope someday we can do a song together. Wish you the best!

    This was just wonderful. So personal, and with such an important message: we each have a purpose, and when we listen for it and act on what we hear, miracles happen.
