    Beautiful car! Engine out belt service is a gut check. Good examples of these with gated boxes will go up in value over time!

    Spot on review! So many reviews are just puff pieces that tell you nothing. Yours nailed it.

  • @ghibli608

    Absolutely correct. I’d add: watch for cracked exhaust manifolds... Hideously expensive to repair as well. What a drive though !

    I currently have a 348 which has to have the engine dropped for some things too. But the 355 just scares me from a maintenance standpoint.

    • @MerlinAutoGroup
      @MerlinAutoGroup  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Understandable. Buying the wrong one can be costly. The F355 isn't vastly dissimilar to maintain comparatively. Knowing what to look for on the front end is key.

    • @richardcarter1000
      @richardcarter1000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've had mine serviced every year for the last 11 years, including a couple of engine out belt services. Total maint cost has been around £20k in that time. The car has increased in value more than that, so it's actually been a cheap car. Amazing considering what it is.

    Oh yes I remember my days in the mid 90s at a Ferrari service center and the f355 can be ASTONISHINGLY expensive for maintenance! That said I absolutely loved the way they sounded!

    This has a 2,7 Bosch Motronic The 5.2 Motronic engine after 1996 drives and sounds better. You can easy find out because the 5.2 version has 1 Air flow meter and not 2.

      I prefer the earlier car, pre airbag, more power, but they are all wonderful.

    • @Toni62R
      @Toni62R 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 5,2 doesen't sound better and it has LESS power than the original 2,7 with TWO intakes.

    • @richardcarter1000
      @richardcarter1000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Toni62R indeed, the pre airbag 2.7 is the one to have, but they're all wonderful.

    • @yvesolution181
      @yvesolution181 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      General consensus is to buy the 2.7, because of the steering wheel, the two intakes, the 2 fuel pumps and above all the suspension setup is always in sport mode, where the 5.2 cars are always in "comfort mode" you have to select "sport".... tell me one car which is always in "sport" mode :-)

      @@yvesolution181 even in sport mode the ride is pretty good. Been out in mine this morning. You never get tired of the sound of that V8.

      yes but the 348 and the 355 are particularly bad because of the engine out belt service.

    I mean when you pay $300k for a car a $20k service isnt that bad. If they dont have service history just offer $20k less. (Australian numbers).

    F1 Exhaust note ? The Ferrari 348 is the single Biggest Bang for the Buck in Ferrari and exotic sports cars. Wait till you have an electrical gremlin with the 296. In Ferrari sports cars. Jeremy Clarkson declared the 355 “the greatest car in the world, ever.” But Less is More with the completely analog 348 as it doesn’t have the brass valve guide and/or electronic suspension issues the 355 has. Older is Easier as the 348 is the best “purely analog” Ferrari ever made according to Hoovies Garage, the Smoking Tire, Jay Emm, etc as the 348 comes without modern day features that actually detract from the experience of driving a Ferrari. Why drive a “fast” car “slow” when you can drive a slower car fast? Lastly, the 348’s 8,500 rpm flat plane crank shaft generates an Formula 1 exhaust note as F1 cars also use flat plane cranks to lower their center of gravity.

    The 355 is one of my favorite Ferraris.....but those maintenance costs mean I'll never own one. Don't get me wrong, I could pay for it, I just don't feel like I should have to pay more than the whole cars worth with 3 belt services....yikes....R8, Gallardo would be a better proposition for most people.

      Yeah. I had one in HK - a GTS. It was awful. Sticky interior was awful. Also he forgot to mention the handbrake. It was always failing. It's also noisy, slow (yes) and drinks fuel.. A stunning car to look at for sure.. but that is it.
