You can call the apartment for the hat. Sometimes the wife will tell you her husband forgot the hat at home, preventing you from accidentally killing your neighbor over a hat.
In that one case the wife came home after so it wouldn’t have helped

Yeah, I died a few times to learn all the tricks too. I've actually encountered one of the 'wears a hat' neighbours that didn't wear a hat, and actually found out that sometimes if you call the apartment, their partner actually says the person left their hat behind. Also, a cheat way to get the 'survive without reading the data folders' is just kill everyone, cuz the key is 'survive', not 0 neighbour kills ^^
I wouldn't thought of that...I just went the ADHD route and compiled screenshots of everyone's folder pic, ID number, and phone number into a png. works great with a multi monitor setup, lol

That's not ADHD either. ADHD is not being able to focus on the RIGHT things. More specifically it is a lack of executive function which effects the ability to select/change tasks. This absolutely CAN result in intense focus on task, to the exclusion of other tasks - which is colloquially termed hyperfocus. It can be useful when it picks the right topic... or destructive when your brain decides it's time to learn all of the intricacies if grass growing.
Also, the things he listed are, in fact, common methods to COPE with having ADHD - compiling information in a visual format, which is the prime way their brain can process information. Similar to how some will use sticky notes around the house to remind themselves of tasks (eg: I have a note on my door with a list of all things I need to leave the house in the morning)

The two biggest mistakes I see everyone make is assuming variations are glitches (F30-03 like the first vid, or the man responding to the wrong question here) and forgetting you can't wear hats when taking an ID photo.

@@pumadelbosco I'd probably say "ah, fuck" or "ah, shit." Adding the "ah" beforehand makes it sound more like you're frustrated or that you've just remembered something. Just "fuck!" on its own sounds weirdly direct and angry - it just doesn't sound as natural in most situations.

The game was actually glitching here, because they respond to the last thing you checked. It's impossible for him to know if he's a neighbor or not because his wife was not home, so there was no one for Mark to call.

The more I think about it, the scarier this job is. Imagine having the responsibility of being faced with multiple doppelgangers a day, and then the horrible unsettling feeling of hearing that everyone’s home when you’re just about to let someone seemingly normal into the building.

if a resident is on The List for a day, then what that means is they called ahead before leaving the house. The apartment complex's security _knows_ they're gone and expected back, so when someone's on the list and all of their documents are correct, you can let them in without calling.
If a resident isn't on The List, even if their paperwork is completely right you should call the apartment to confirm. Generally if one's not on the list and is a fake they'll probably have at least some sort of actual discrepancy but it'll be something much more subtle that exists only in the documentation.
Watching him get enraged over the dude not having a hat and not answering an appearance question while he still had ID and entry request marked with an X actually had me sitting here like "MARK YOU NEED TO CHECK THE OTHER BOXES"

22:47 they have more apartment complexes to 'clean' than just yours. I kind of imagine there being a block of nine buildings with the dopple cops in the center building and eight apartment buildings below. Maybe each apartment building has some stores on the ground floor. Like grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, or even small doctor's/dentist offices. And they put eight of these blocks around a park to make a district. And then they have walls around each district with there being dozens of districts per city. And then there would be a much larger wall with towers and other fortifications around the whole city.

I thought Mark's solution to surviving without checking the folders was going to be killing _everyone,_ neighbor and doppelganger alike. XD
I especially like the part where he calls the doppelganger out, and when it realizes the game is up and admits defeat, Mark starts "questioning" it. I mean... sorta. It'd honestly be kinda cool if you actually could. Like your Checklist is suddenly replaced with a few different options and perhaps the creatures will give you some different answers about the Lore based on their "Personality Type" (if that is or becomes a thing), allowing the game to expand on what's going on behind the scenes.

my favorite part about mark's videos is the fact that usually about halfway through extreme failure he discovers a game mechanic that magically fixes all his problems and we've all been screaming at him through the screen about it the whole time

You shouldn't have to, though. Not only that, but it worked with a different input that he didn't uncheck his first input to ask. It's a bug.
