This is such an affordable garage. I'd make a house like that with one garage, and still have money leftover. Planning the land purchase now. If only Ken would come to Romania to help me with my projects...
Beautiful job! He even works in the rain! Love the cantilever deck & large glass door. Nice wood ceiling. Love the way the same wood extends down onto the wall. Everything is looking great in the garage with cute apartment above it.
As someone who lives in a gambrel style house with garage, I'm pretty jealous of how the upstairs interior of this turned out. The cathedral ceiling is a really good idea. Just all well done.
Thanks for this one Ken... Your perseverance in sketchy weather is highlighted and the second floor detail is a treat. Thank you ! (I am one week in ~ no bread or any "grain" products, cooking only with coconut oil, lots of blueberries and vegetables, Tofu and small portions of steak tips! ~. Oops ~ maybe T.M.I.) ~~~ ✨🙏✨
Looks like a wonderful place to live and a beautifully built building.I love watching these videos and dreaming that I could have something Iike that one day. Thanks for the video.
Morning. Nice garage. The pine works really well here. The cathedral ceiling adds nice ambiance to the room. BTW, gotta love the ladder hoist. Hey have a great day and enjoy that cup. 👍
Well done bro!! I build garages and barns for a living and this is one hell of a structure! If you paint it every 10 years and put new shingles every 20 it’ll last more than a century. Not to mention it’s purty :)
very nice build, inside especially. wonderful to see little princess helping out and i thank her for waving at me (that is the way i take it). yall take everything past the ordinary by adding finesse to your work......g
Wonderful build and craftsmanship, I sure wished you were around my area, I would love to have you build my garage/apartment that I'm ready to start on. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you for the entire storyline on this project. We are converting a little 20 x 25' barn about this size into our house in Vermont. Including lifting up the "upstairs" which was only 5 feet tall and now 7'2" not including the tray/fan area. We also used pine on the ceiling. This project is very inspiration. Thank you.
With all the quality workmanship and knowledge you and your team have (including the turkeys) I'm surprised you don't have a tv show on one of the Discovery networks or DIY network. I love watching your videos and would definitely watch the tv version
thanks for this come-together video - - by reversing and re-looking - - I am seeing your good work and plan. My son has bought a lot in Florida for a vacation/rental home. I am suggesting that he build something like THIS FIRST on the rear of the property - - then use it to stay in on vacation - - and whilst he builds his HOUSE
Beautiful build, great workmanship! For me personally I would have installed French doors instead of the sliders. When the French doors would be open the living space and the outdoors come together. Again awesome build!
I Love it and great work ! We are looking into building a 36 X 64 shop with Gambrel style roof on the second floor . Your detailed video has sure helped out .
This knotty pine board finish - - was popular in the 1930's - - our house was an old "Roosevelt Barn" - - when I scraped the old wall paper off, it revealed this kind of paneling - - which was CHEAPEST at that time - - now - - after 5 years - - it had wonderful color. I simply put polyeurethane on it for wonderful finish. Thanks for your details.
Got a little hairy coming off the laddervator but; all's well that ends well...:)...Beautiful job and I can't believe all the work you did for 45k. Minus the interior T/G ...:)... Gambrel is my favorite building shape It makes the second story so much more user friendly. Love the cantilever deck too!
Ken, great building. Have started watching your videos very impressed by your common sense building practices and attention to detail. Wish you were in Seattle so that you could build our proposed workshop with guest accommodation above. If you know anyone who is as good as you in Seattle I would love an introduction. Please keep posting your work, it is inspiring, regards ...... Mike
As always, I enjoy your videos immensely. Hope the winter work hiatus allows you wrist to heal good or better than new. I am currently planning a DIY, gambrel roof, barn type structure (12' x 20') with attached 8' x 20' shed roof carport at our off grid camp. I would like to build a small flare to the bottom edge of the roof on each side of the barn portion to shed rain and snow away from the foundation. Will need to match up with the roughly 10-12" rake at the building ends. I will be building the walls with OSB sheathing over the frame, then installing 1/4 or 1/2 cedar log siding to more closely match my other outbuildings. The plan that was provided to me suggests a kind of mickey mouse method for the flare that seems more appropriate for a garden shed, but does not provide a clean (not to mention critter proof) look at the top of each side wall. Could you please provide me a little more detail on the design and construction of the roof flare on your similar style gambrel roof garages and barn style structures? Your buildings of similar design always look fantastic! Thank you.
28x32 would work for me, 2 br 1ba kitchen and LR upstairs, 1x12' garage door downstairs with laundry, ba, and shop in the other side. Carport on the side for covered parking. Deck as shown for bbq and with retractable awning for bad weather.
Love your videos. My only complaint would be that I'd like to see some closeup instructions on how you do some of the details like the flare outs or eyebrows over the Garage doors!
Excellent work Ken, I've seen some videos and they look great. Greetings from Mexico. One question, is there a school that teaches what you do to work or is it learned at work? Thanks again
There's one thing that I tried to explain to my guys on how much a clean job site is a safe job site I hate when people just make a mess and leave it there for someone else to clean up and when I'm done at the end of the day I'll take a paintbrush clean my tools off put everything away so I don't forget any of my tools they're all ready for the next day
I want to build one like this, only over a 4 car garage, I space for my wife’s car, my 31 & my 36 Ford... my wife doesn’t seem as enthusiastic about this idea as I am...
I have found myself binge watching your channel today. I was wondering if it was possible to put gables on a gambrell roof. You are a true craftsman. Do you design your buildings or do your customers provide them. Again each one of your projects impresses me more. God bless
I need to find someone in VA who can do this. I've been desperately trying to get someone to quote me on garages and the extra apartment is really nice
did you use scissor truss here? are they any different to install or insulate, Sheetrock, vent etc. Im fixing to order trusses for my gambrel im building, cant find 14'' tall i joist only 16'' ones, have you ever used 16'' tall on a gambrel?
I love pine a simple yet beautiful wood. I bet the smell of the wood is heavenly. That's my dream garage. Great job.
Thanks

looks great, love the apt over garage concept and the wood paneling interior
Thanks
It’s so refreshing to get an idea of the cost upfront… imagine if all advertising was done this way!
Thanks for watching
Real classy touch I've always liked the idea of a two-car apartment garage. I love the floor as well great contrast with the pine wood 👍
Thanks

Nice sounds like you’re nailing it
Well done. Looks very comfortable, the spray foam insulation was an excellent decision.
Thanks

With those two dormers, the cathedral ceiling, and the deck, the space and spaciousness of the apartment is great. This is a great design!
Thanks

Yes , a loooove French doors.
My only concern with French doors would be the bugs in our area otherwise I love them as well

Thanks for watching. Nice
Amazing craftmanship
Thanks for watching
It would have been great if you live in around north eastern PA cause I would love to add a 2 car garage with a bedroom over it. Love the work you do.
Thanks nice
Another beautiful job!
Thanks for watching
Great video, I saw that in some jobs you do an extra layer of rebar on the edge where the plates sit and some you don't .
If it’s single story we’ve been doing a single row. If it’s 2 story we’ve been doing two
BEAUTIFUL JOB‼️👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸
Thanks
You are giving me ideas for the space above the shop / garage I want to build in my back yard.
Nice!

Thanks for watching. Sorry I don’t know anyone out thete
Love the videos. Wish you had detailed how you framed and weatherproofed the cantilevered deck.
Thanks I should have had the camera running more during that time.
I had to look in the dictionary, and check photos online to figure out the "cantilevered"; thanks!
Ken Come on man. GIve your daughter the nail gun 9:10. Save the up down. Plus I can tell she wanted to do it.
Haha baby steps
Nice work brother nice work

Love you Ken
With you were in California

Livable affordable beautiful. Something worth building. What about staining the wood in a darker tone.
That would look nice
Love your videos. My only complaint would be that I'd like to see some closeup instructions on how you do some of the details like the flare outs or eyebrows over the Garage doors!

Nice
awesome job
Thanks
That looks great
Thanks
Looks good.
Thanks for watching
Excellent work Ken, I've seen some videos and they look great. Greetings from Mexico. One question, is there a school that teaches what you do to work or is it learned at work? Thanks again
Thanks for watching. A lot of high schools offer a building trades program. Sometimes there are apprenticeship programs.
The panelling is beautiful but in order to prevent cupping I presume you nail it with the convex side on to the studs..

May I hire you. 👍
Good job
Thanks
Great looking place!
Thanks
Pine is so much better than drywall
Can I would love a four-car version of this, would you consider spending a few days down here in Myrtle Beach to build it for me?
Wow. Thanks but that would be to much for me. :)
all I see is a shop I can live in!
Nice
I want to build one like this, only over a 4 car garage, I space for my wife’s car, my 31 & my 36 Ford... my wife doesn’t seem as enthusiastic about this idea as I am...

We work with the homeowner and sketch out a layout then build it thanks for watching
If you don't mind me asking, how did you tie in the balcony floor with the 1st floor ceiling? That part of the video is missing.
2x12 pt extend inside 10’
Mr.Ken!! I need to hire you and your hands down here in Good ol' Georgia!? If you can't I'll take your best mate's card!?🙏🤞💪
Bummer it’s probably warm there
Is there any chance/way to purchase the plans for this particular build?
Did you treat any of the interior lumber, or leave it natural? Beautiful interior!
Thanks for watching. Yes 3 coats is polyurethane
Lindo trabajo mire todos tus video’s
Thanks
Very nice
Thanks
Please show a video of your tricks for building the walls in the shop! Please share your wisdom with us.
Ok thanks
Very Nice!
Thanks
Beautiful job! does the property have city sewer or septic for the bathroom ?
Septic. Thanks for watching
Very nice, how much was the build out? Small bedroom. Nice deck.
Thanks. The homeowner did a lot of the work so I don’t know the final cost. Sorry
I need to find someone in VA who can do this. I've been desperately trying to get someone to quote me on garages and the extra apartment is really nice
That's a dream for me
Nice

Wow, that's a lot of wood...
Nice work Ken. Is the $45k the contracted price? What would that cost. Diy-er doing all the labor themselves? 1/2 that number??
Labor is about half
Greetings from CT! Nice work Ken. May I ask where you're located?
We’re in northeastern Vermont
I wish you serviced Maine!
I think that would have been ideal to install pex tubing for radiant heating, then adding the boiler now or later on, just my thoughts.
When you use 2x6 walls do you space studs 24 in on center?
16” on center
would you be able to share the plans with us i love this building just the structure
