Tisas 1911 Carry DS The Good and Bad - Watch Before You Buy!

  • I go over the good and the bad of the Tisas 1911 Carry DS. These are the issues I had with my pistol. If you can work on the pistol yourself I think its a good value. If you would need to pay a gunsmith to fix the issues outlined in this video, the pistol is just "meh." Know what you're getting into, know what issues it may have, and if you need to fix them or pay someone to fix them for you. That may drastically change the value of the pistol to you, and if you want to pusrcahse it or not. I hope this video is helpful!

    Great video. Great update. I was really looking forward to your final thoughts and input on all the upgrades you did to this firearm. I also watched the other videos on it as well, and gonna take a couple of your ideas and put them on my Tisas. Thanks again.

      Final video where I show all the work i did to it is coming. Still tinkering away haha. Waiting for a new mainspring housing to see if I can get this new grip safety to fit. I also fit a new barrel bushing (a second one) so i will give an update on accuracy. im going on vacation so the last video probably wont be for a month or more.

    My xp has been the same. I have an early model B45R that, out of the box was perfect so I purchased the DS 9 Carry and Duty model. Both have terrible barrel bushing fitment and needed serious leaf spring work. My duty model trigger fitment is a joke. EPS arrives next week so we'll see how it goes but not to confident in my purchase.

      Sear spring on this one took a ton of fiddling too. Had some memory too it and my trigger weight kept creeping back up. Bummer you have had the same issue. I hope you dont have the optic cut issue!

    I really curious about your take on glock.
    Is glock's slide finish difficult to drill holes into?

    • @dltz
      @dltz  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Havent cut into a glock slide yet. I'm sure I will at some point. In general, with every pistol i have ported, the nitride finish on a slide and barrel is very hard. I bust thru the nitride with a carbide endmill. Then usually just bore any holes or rip any slots in the slide/barrel I need from there. A nice, sharp, 4 flute carbide endmill (coated or not), makes quick work of the nitride finish. I dont even bother with center drilling or drill bits anymore because it just roaches them immediately. I have noticed variation in nitride thickness in the slides and barrels I have machined, the hardness all seems comparable. Once I break thru that, the stainless steel or CMV alloy steel is easy to machine. There are many different nitrocarburization processes, but they all produce similar finish, corrosion resistance, and surface hardness, the main difference is how long they let it sit in the molten salts to make a thinner or thicker layer.
      In regards to Glock in general, they are reliable. But nothing about their performance, features, ergonomics, or price has impressed me. I personally will not support a company that has refused to innovate for 30 years and just rides on their laurels. I have heavily modified gen 3 and 4 glock clones and even at their best I feel they are just "meh" compared to upgraded hammer fired pistols (DA/SA or SAO). In comparison to other striker fired pistols, there are a lot on the market that are just as reliable, but perform better and feel better in my hands while also being cheaper. And once upgraded the other perform as good or better than the Glocks.

      @@dltz You are absolutely right about Glock's lack of innovation and "meh" feel, even after heavy mod (which I did too)... It's shameful. I have tried CZ (P10 F) and Springfield (Prodigy)... Shit, I even Tried Taurus PT92 and G2c(I am brazilian)... But the gun that fits my hands the best is Glock. I wish we could have more access to guns in Brazil, but they are expensive as hell down here... I bought my G34 in 2020 for the equivalent of 3000 dollars!

      @@aperturelabs8552 Oh shit dude thats wild! out of curiosity what would those other guns cost in Brazil in comparison to the Glock 34?

      @@dltz When I bought them...
      First to last:
      Taurus PT92 $1000
      Taurus G2c $700
      CZP10F $2500
      Glock G34 $3000 (Glock is considered "premium" here).
      Glock G17 $3000
      Glock G19 $3000
      Prodigy $4000
      Please notice that from the first to last.. dollar price skyrocketed here... And I round the numbers... My Prodigy was actually about $4250.
      1 dollar today is worth R$ 5.6 ("reais", which is brazilian currency).
      And if you think this is expensive... You should see the cars price here... It's outrageous.
      Just an example: 2024 Honda Civic ("luxury car" down here): $50.000... yes.

    would you choose this instead of the night stalker?

    • @dltz
      @dltz  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yes. I would buy this. With the nightstalker you're paying for decorative slide milling, a different color of cerakote, a magwell, and a threaded barrel. I don't care about any of those features (with the exception of the magwell - I got one that I think looks cooler for $60). If those features were important to you then the nightstalker is probably a good option becuase it is only like $150 more.
      In terms of the issues I found with this gun, those are general tolerancing and manufacturing issues that I would also expect to find on the nightstalker. I wouldn't expect the extra money for the nightstalker to net me anything in terms of better fit or tolerances.
      The real question is this pistol or the Mac9 DS. I wouldn't be able to answer that question unless I got a Mac9 DS and really dug into it like i did with this pistol. However either I, or one of my friends will probably buy the Mac9ds at some point so I'll probably be able to answer that question down the road.

    For your Magwell did you have to drill through the frame to get the pin to hold the Magwell and also what is the Magwell if you don’t mind me asking ?

    • @dltz
      @dltz  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No drilling required. The magwell comes with a longer mainspring housing pin that replaces the factory one and retains the magwell. This is a Dawson precision gen 1 Staccato magwell. Fits like a glove.

    • @dltz
      @dltz  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@killmongers550 I got the Ed Brown concealed carry grip safety. With the grip module/frame issue I wasn't able to install it. It would just flop out the back becuase the mainspring housing was too low. I did order a new mainspring housing but I don't know if that will even allow me to run it with how big the gap is. Other than that the grip safety fit fine, the tang needed filed down to adjust the release point but thats expected with any new grip safety.
