  • As we get closer to the one year mark of our CANVAS WALL TENT being set up, I have to make adjustment to the log frame.

    You are crazy working with a circular saw like that!!!

    That knot is called a truckers knot, it works much better than any tie downs and there is nothing to loose.

    I agree. I think the poles going to ridge beam not only solved the problem but adds a bit of additional character to the structure. Very nice. I like the look.

    I was wondering about that. I like the idea of bracing rather than running wires to a secure footing. That would make it hard to walk around the outside of the tent.👍 I’ve taken notes, and yes, I think the offset method is better.

      J Ward, yup, that's why I have the RAIN FLY tied that way. I didn't like the idea of having to walk around tie ropes all the time, especially in the dark!

    I seen a setup similar to this in a video in Alaska I think an they have some good winds there. An he had an idea that made sense to me so I'm not sure it works but seem logical. The tie down ropes on tent an the cover tarp he got right size bungee cords on each rope bent loops down so they wouldn't pop off an when wins blow the bungee would spring an it help preserve those eyelets from ripping out. Just thought I'd mention it.

      In our situation I am more worried about snow load than wind. We can get some heavy wet snow at times. A tight tarp is a must so the snow can slide off. If the tarp sags, as it might with bungees attached to the guy ropes the snow might build up to a point of failure of the tie points. I could see them being a plus if snow is not a factor.

      @@mytwelveacres3071 didn't think of that I guess it be determined by where you live. I'm in Tennessee so something for me to think about. I just watched another one of your videos did you get the worms off your apple trees this summer

      @@lynngatlin4469 I did get rid of them , a little late though. The grafts were damaged so only one survived. The Gypsy moth worms were incredibly bad here the last two years. They can completely strip most trees of their leaves. Devastating to our acorn crop!

      @@mytwelveacres3071 here in Tennessee you can't have any fruit trees without spraying them. It's a must or you will never get any fruit. Not sure about the moth but there is fungus an other things.

    This is phenomenal! I'm absolutely impressed and inspired. Is there any way you have any sort of model I could follow for the base and wooden framing?

    • @mytwelveacres3071
      @mytwelveacres3071  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Seth, I do not have any plans or model. Dimensions are very tent specific and we made the deck and log framing to fit OUR tent. I can tell you that we made the deck to the exact size of the tent footprint. This allowed us to wrap the tent over the deck and eliminate water from entering. We did add an extension to the deck to accommodate our rainfly porch. The height of the log frame that supports the rain fly is 10 inches taller than the height of the tent ridge. This allowed room for setting up the tent and air space between the two. The side wall logs were placed so the tent eves could be tied to them at the right height. I know that is pretty general info but again it all depends on YOUR tent dimensions ... Hope this helped some and thanks for watching!

      @@mytwelveacres3071 Hello! Been very much appreciating your channel and videos as we await our tent from Davis! We are about to build our platform then we'll do the frame to elevate the rain fly. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what kind of wood and whether you used pressure treated for your platform? Was also wondering, did you seal your platform slats together or do anything to create a barrier for bugs coming up from underneath? Do you just use your platform as your floor? I'm considering rugs and have a friend who did a wood floor. Thanks again! I've got many more of your videos to watch, we're enjoying! And grateful!

      P.s. Just watched your answers to viewer's questions and learned you put in a screen and used pressure treated :-)

      @mytwelveacres3071  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Helen, The whole deck is pressure treated. We put ALUMINIUM screen on the pressure treated floor joists. I then installed 5/4 pressure treated decking. I set them tight together knowing they will shrink some. That has worked well for keeping bugs out. We have rugs over most of the floor. They keep help keep any drafts out during the cold months.
      We have a wood stove that we install for the winter and take out for the warmer months. Thanks for watching!

    Why did you use a square ridge beam and rafters rather than round poles for those. Would you pleaaaase draw/write up design plans for this?!?! I'd pay for them! I want to build the same thing but for a 14x16 with awning!

    • @mytwelveacres3071
      @mytwelveacres3071  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shlomo, I used the ridge beam mainly because I could not find a straight enough log in the length that was needed. The rafters were added later to solve the problem I was having as seen in the video. I didn't have any logs on hand at the time, but will be replacing those with logs soon. Because tents very in dimension from manufacturer to manufacturer and even from tent to tent with the same maker, it is difficult to draw plans that will work for every tent. I personally didn't use plans and just built to fit my tent. I would be happy to give you any advice along the way with your project ..... mytwelveacres@gmail.com
