ah, where are yer solar panels? you didn't show them or the storage batteries. all my home is 100% 12v for everything nuff power for 10 days w/o sun. 18 cf freezer, 18 cf fridge, water pump , all of it 12v.
@@williamkechkaylo7915 Actually I did talk about and show all that. For right now we are charging the 48volt battery with the chargeverter and a generator until we get panels. Thanks for watching!
@@mytwelveacres3071 ah i see said the blind man. so, just the 1 battery. that would not work for us, we have 10. you can get some great 48v panels but soon the new ones will be out so you could get great deals on the ones left in the market place. good timing. i would recommend a tracking system which improves input by up to 50%, so less panel is needed. 20yrs on my system.
Dont run a generator transfer switch. Just run the generator to the chargeverter. That way you are always running the generator to its 75% capacity for beat fuel it will only charge the battery when needed and the inverter runs everything else. I have a video on my channel on how i have mine hooked up in an off grid setup likexthis
@@Self.reliant Thats exactly what I’m doing. The Chargeverter will be plugged directly into the 240 volt outlet on the generator. The manual transfer switch is only to switch loads from the battery to the generators 120 volt side if needed, hopefully it will never be needed. I’ll definitely check out your video. Thanks For watching!
It's best to take notes on how much you run your generator, so you know how much power you need to generate with the solar panels.
@@GerbenWulff Thank you, that is a great idea!
There are some well pumps that take much less power to run, you could check with any solar equipment supplier for one. They are usually subermersable pumps
Thanks, ours is a shallow well pump. If it becomes a problem for our battery system I will explore that option. Thanks for watching!
@mytwelveacres3071 great video, I really appreciate your efforts to make and post them
nice, one suggestion if you havent installed the transfer switch yet you might want to consider an auto transfer switch from an RV. they come in various amperage sizes and is basicly a coil that gets charged that moves a large metal connection point. might save you some effort when transfering between two sources.
I contemplated that idea but in the end decided to go with the manual switch. We will be running with the batteries the majority of the time and will be only using the generator for charging. At least till we get some solar panels. Thanks for watching!
i feel robbed!! where was my footage of the dessert being eaten?!

ahhh a supportive wife with cookies.. no job can stand a chance when a man is fueled as such! the smell of baking will make any man 2x his work speed.
She keeps me going! Thanks for watching!
How long does it take to charge the battery with the generator?
Using 120 volts and charging at 20 amps it's taking 2.5 hours. I will eventually have the 240 volt side run into the camp. That will allow me to charge at a much higher amperage, and should only take an hour or so. Thanks for watching!
Excellent work. We did a major solar upgrade at our cabin last summer. What a game changer.
Its been something we’ve wanted to do for a while. I still have some work to do on the system but each step gets us closer. Thanks for watching!
FYI , We In Mi have a 10k auto start Generac generator runs on any kind of gas . We have wind turbine generator . It charges battery every night . You might want to do this too . Good Luck
We actually had a Generac generator for some time. It stopped working properly and was going to be too expensive to fix. Unfortunately or fortunately we don’t get much wind in our location so a turbine probably wouldn’t work well. The system I installed will start a generator when the batteries get low enough. Thanks for watching!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching!
@ I subscribed too. Just some encouragement.
Thank you for subscribing!
A high frequency transformerless inverter is not upgrade. You should have purchased a low frquency, transformer based inverter charger instead.
With our low load application a high frequency inverter is fine. It’s also much more cost effective Thanks for watching!
I like this

One more question: is the shiplap you used pressure treated? Or is that taken care of with the stain you used? Thanks!
It is not treated. We used tongue and groove pine boards and stained it. The stain will last a long time! Thanks for watching!
Thanks. You have a nice setup! All good advice.
keep up the good work...

How much was the whole set up for the tent. I’m currently about to buy 1 acre of land and wanting to get me something reasonable to live in. And should I get a Porta potty? 😭 uhh idk someone help
Prices have changed since we bought our tent. Check out DAVIS TENTS for their great selection of different tents and options. They are a great company to work with! Porta potties are definitely an option if you don’t mind paying for the rent. Besides the initial cost of materials, the composting outhouse is free. Thanks for watching!

@ My grandmother on my mom’s side lived in New Jersey. I used to go visit her and my aunts, uncles and cousins when I was a teenager. My uncle and his wife took me to Speculator, New York one summer. Do you know where that is?
I've never been there but know where it is.
I would say, you got a bit of snow
It could have been much worse for sure!
I was surprised that you both came back to the cabin. It looks absolutely beautiful and very cold. Stay warm and cozy🌲🌟❄️🔥🪵☃️ It looked like fun at the end😊
The deer at the end was a nice touch
That buck was there right when I finished loading up. The snow in the woods is deep. Forcing the deer onto the roads I think.
Oh man I needed this video...I had a hart attack this summer...wife won't let me go to my camp. Too much work for an old guy she says....can't wait for spring
Spring will come soon enough. Take it easy till then and go enjoy your camp when you can . Thanks for watching
Recently found your channel and watched your Thanksgiving video. Eager to see how much snow you ended up with. We are about 50 miles south of you near Happy Valley in a cabin on 47 acres. You mentioned you are looking for solar information. We have experience with small systems all the way up to our current 5000-watt system. Would be happy to share solar knowledge in exchange for information on bee keeping.
We are going into our third year keeping bee's and have learned a lot in that time, but certainly have much more to figure out. I just purchased some EG4 products to hopefully get us started with the solar setup. We are starting small but doing it in a way that is easily expandable. I would be happy to share information . THANKS FOR WATCHING!
