i love Gary Oldman he has such an expressive and honest face and Peter Travers is an amazing interviewer it was like watching two old friends catching up
Oldman really have the villain gene in him, he knows how to play the sort of charater, the evil, bad guy. But also, in later years, he's shown something amazing, that he can just flip his coin and play a good guy just as amazingly good. Gordon and forward after that. He's just such a great talent! And I love him for it!
I would pay generously to see Gary as a villain because he never is just a villain. And let's be honest, playing the villain is often more interesting than playing the good guy. But I do take his point. Changing of spices keeps you hungry.
I am obsessed with this film. There are layers and layers to this film that most people will never see because you have to watch it multiple times to see the real magic. George Smiley is one of my favorite Oldman characters. Pure gold.
Gary is a true actor…in short he can play completely different characters….unlike Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Jason Statham, et al who just play themselves all the time ! The fact he has never won an Oscar just shows how worthless they are !!
That’s why some are called A-list actors, some B-list actors and some Z-list. You can’t put Daniel Day Lewis in the same sentence with someone like Will Smith for example. Will is fun and entertaining to watch maybe, but he isn’t at the level of DiCaprio, or Gary Oldman, etc. They do different things at the end of the day, even if they all act. They do it on very different levels of meaning and depth.
"you gotta show me the money!" Love Gary Oldman. What the hell is wrong with the academy? He doesn't need a publicist. He can go and hide away, but his work is still there. All they have to do is watch and know that this man should already have at LEAST one Oscar to his name. It's insulting.
OMG This was an amazing interview! And why the hell is he hiding such a wonderful voice! I'd love to see him sing in something like Les Mis! He's got the chops to do it!
I've loved Gary Oldman since I saw Sid & Nancy and I love all of his villain characters from Dracula, to Zorg, to Sirius Black (not really a villain) - THIS MAN DESERVES AN OSCAR!!!
I really like Gary Oldman, he's just so down to earth and normal. He doesn't go seeking the limelight he's got no real wish to see himself in glossy magazines or in the paper every 2nd week. He values his freedom and his own time to do as he wants. Go over to the UK and visit family, chill out with some friends and enjoy a nice meal together.
Gary Oldman, one of the very few people worthy to be called AWESOME. He isn't just an actor or a celebrity. He's a god and a hero. Buddha bless Gary Oldman.
Just like highschool it is all about popularity. Oldman is great at what he does but not enough people seem to notice him. When you have people like Jennifer Lawrence winning Oscars you know there is something wrong.
He spoke out against the globes multiple times, asking for boycott while he spoke well about the BAFTA and the Academy Awards. It took till 2012 to win an Oscar for Tinker, Taylor, Soldier Spy. I wonder if he shows up to get an Golden Globe after all these years, cause they nominated him this year for his Winston Churchill Roll in "The Darkest Hour". I hope he shows up and craps all over them.
onpsxmember ~ Nominated for an Academy Award (he's still never won, but that's about to change). This is Oldman's time, the Academy simply cannot continue to shamefully deny him. It's been too egregious an oversight for too long.
I grew up watching Lost in Space on television in the 1970s. I never thought anybody could make me have the hots for Dr. Zachary Smith, but dammit, Gary Oldman did!
Drexle?! Nah it's good but not the best, it's between Norman Stansfield in "The Professional", or Beethoven in "Immortal Beloved". Zog from "5th Element" was awesome too.
💜 Gary Oldman 💜 have a publicist no, academy nominated no, I'm not in to self promotion, humility Gary Oldman Academy Best Actor 2018 for Winston Churchill I say it now, but almost do not want it to happen it seems the antithesis of all Oldman but would still be lovely to be recognized Gary would most likely lament graciously when accepting, you are the bestest Gary🕊
I rank Oldman right up there with Peck, Tracy, Guiness, Sydow, and Hopkins. I would rather watch an Oldman performance than any amount of Olivier, Burton, or Connery. I hope he doesn't mind much about how many trophies are collecting dush upon his mantle. His art will endure beyond any of those trappings. I hope he will continue to trust his decisions.
When Oldman mentions The Scarlett Letter at 5:30 as a movie he'd take to a desert island with him, it sounds like you can hear Travers in the background exclaiming, "Really!?" Which would be my reaction. That was one of the worst movies of all time.
He doesn't normally have a stutter, but he seemed to pick one up for a while around the Tinker Tailor period. Stutters, like word habits can sometimes rub off on people. I've seen it happen with other people.
Maybe it's better they haven't nominated him. Some who receive it, (especially newcomers) get it and hardly are in good parts again. I'm sad that there was a long period where he didn't work, but family comes first. Also liked that one of his favorite movies was 'Scarlet Letter'. It's one of the very few of his parts that he is a romantic lead. He should have had more of those !!!!!!
Been a fan of Gary's and Tim's since watching Mike Leigh's Meantime in the early 80's. An exceptional actor who I'm sure would make a good director too, having had a go at it back in the 90's with the hard hitting 'Nil by Mouth'. There isn't much he can't do by the sound of it. The only thing he's not particular good at it seems is marriage. But hey ho you can't be good at everything.
I was so glad he said "The Scarlett Letter". I loved his performance in that film!
He wasn't bad, but the movie around him was atrocious.
i love Gary Oldman he has such an expressive and honest face and Peter Travers is an amazing interviewer it was like watching two old friends catching up
What a lovely man. I wish him every happiness, especially because he had such a hard time growing up.
Oldman really have the villain gene in him, he knows how to play the sort of charater, the evil, bad guy. But also, in later years, he's shown something amazing, that he can just flip his coin and play a good guy just as amazingly good. Gordon and forward after that. He's just such a great talent! He was utter class in Leon
Drexel. True Romance. Detective, The Professional.
Gary has played the villain lots of times!
He is a great villan in dracula too hes just the best
Gary would make a smashing Bond Villian!!
Oh, and I ADORED him as Dracula, Arthur Dimsdale, and last but not least SIRIUS BLACK!!!
I am obsessed with this film. There are layers and layers to this film that most people will never see because you have to watch it multiple times to see the real magic. George Smiley is one of my favorite Oldman characters. Pure gold.
I am at a lose as to why this man has not been recognized and awarded by the Academy! Without question, one the the very finest actors EVER!
He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Darkest Hour as Churchill.
Gary Oldman....a MASTER at his craft.....Bravo Sir....Thank you for sharing your talent with us all...
Gary is a true actor…in short he can play completely different characters….unlike Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Jason Statham, et al who just play themselves all the time ! The fact he has never won an Oscar just shows how worthless they are !!
Actually......... Finally........... He won it last year!!! For THE DARKEST HOUR, in which he plays Winston Churchill
That’s why some are called A-list actors, some B-list actors and some Z-list. You can’t put Daniel Day Lewis in the same sentence with someone like Will Smith for example. Leon, Best villan ever.
I had a crush on Gary after that movie xD
He does'd have time!.. for this mickey mouse bullshit!.
Agreed
"EVERYONE!" ;-)
EVERYONE loved his performance
"you gotta show me the money!" Love Gary Oldman.
What the hell is wrong with the academy? He doesn't need a publicist. He can go and hide away, but his work is still there. All they have to do is watch and know that this man should already have at LEAST one Oscar to his name. It's insulting.
He seriously needs to be knighted , he is a legend
Well, now he's missed his shot to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth, as it were.
i really like it ! singing at the end...calm with humor and no shyness . Congratulations , both of you!
This is one of the most brillant actors in the world and should be given the next Academy award.
Gary Oldman is just delightful💟
Favorite actor ever! He makes the characters so good, that you even forget it's him!
This was just great. Gary Oldman never gives a bad performance. And he's even better "being himself."
Jackie Flannery in State Of Grace. Gary's finest performance! Though ALL his performances are fucking FIRST RATE! Gary is a LEGEND!
OMG This was an amazing interview! And why the hell is he hiding such a wonderful voice! I'd love to see him sing in something like Les Mis! He's got the chops to do it!
Gary Oldman is my utmost favorite actor to play as bad guys. He does it so well!
Loved him singing in the end:)
Gary Oldman is an actor.
Arthur Sid by great "A"!
I've loved Gary Oldman since I saw Sid & Nancy and I love all of his villain characters from Dracula, to Zorg, to Sirius Black (not really a villain) - THIS MAN DESERVES AN OSCAR!!!
he finally got one this year
The Professional is a spectacular performance and one of my favorite movies ever. How come he NEVER talks about it?
Oldman. Daniel Day Lewis. Best actors period. Also, I could watch Chris Walken all day.
"You want Gary Oldman as a villain? You gotta show me the money!" haha
Immortal Beloved was such a fantastic movie. He has so much talent. I am pretty sure he played all the music for that movie as well.
Gary Oldman's all right. Charming guy.
Gary Oldman's acting promotes itself! I love this guy.
TTSS is so beautifully filmed and I could listen to Smiley and his co-stars forever.
He played Oswald to a tee, He should have won at least 2 Oscars
Gary Oldman is so fing cool, he deserves ever bit of praise he gets by people.
He is such a phenomenal actor able to enact all roles perfectly.
I really like Gary Oldman, he's just so down to earth and normal.
He doesn't go seeking the limelight he's got no real wish to see himself in glossy magazines or in the paper every 2nd week. He values his freedom and his own time to do as he wants. Go over to the UK and visit family, chill out with some friends and enjoy a nice meal together.
saw him in an interview he said he auditioned at RADA and was rejected and was told by another teacher he would not have much of a career.
I wouldn't say there is an actor better than everyone else but Gary is as good as anyone.
I fuckin love Gary Oldman! Greatest actor!!!!
Hes so good as a villan just an excellent actor
The finest actor of our time. The man is a chameleon. He can create a character and let it take reign.
Gary Oldman, one of the very few people worthy to be called AWESOME. He isn't just an actor or a celebrity. He's a god and a hero. Buddha bless Gary Oldman.
I want Gary Oldman to play a handful of characters in one movie. You see Eddie Murphy do it quite a bit, would be amazing to see Gary Oldman do it
The should have taken him to Cloud Atlas, that movie could have been even more spiced up
How could anyone compare Eddie Murphy to Gary Oldman?
He should have been nominated for Sid & Nancy.. A true 80's masterpiece..
Charming. Gary, if you're not recognized for Churchill, we all know because the Oscars are political. You are the best.
He really is amazing
That an actor as talented as him has never won an award is a great travesty. It must be political or something.
Just like highschool it is all about popularity. Oldman is great at what he does but not enough people seem to notice him. When you have people like Jennifer Lawrence winning Oscars you know there is something wrong.

Like Bowie.. like him or not, a very charismatic man.
I love Gary Oldman. he was so great in Tinker Tailor. He is a really great actor. All time great.
I saw that as a child and his performance inspired me to read Bram Stoker's book Dracula. Now that's a real vampire. :)
Well Gary Oldman just won a lead actor Screen Actors Guild Award for the movie in Darkest Hour. Jan, 22, 2018
7:39 Damn!! He has warm and charming singing voice.
Wonderful Actor!
State of Grace...........
the white dread in True Romance, best Oldman character of all time
Gary Oldman is the greatest!
always great Gary Oldman
What I admire most about Gary is his intensity at the moment to play every character, I have never seen his performance in JFK, is it good?
It's an excellent film, and yes, he was good (even though he didn't look or sound all that much like Lee Harvey Oswald).
@@adamzanzie did you like his Winston Churchill role in Darkest Hour ?
Happy Birthday Gary Oldman!!!
Love u Gary my dear Dracula am or Mina
great interview, great chemistry
Gary Oldman is so good, he could play Morgan Freeman...
"In the truthful way that I'm accustomed to."
lol. That was awesome.
Great as Dracula
if i could have anyones signature, dead or alive, it would be oldmans, and im absolutely serious.
Great interview.
Drexle?! Nah it's good but not the best, it's between Norman Stansfield in "The Professional", or Beethoven in "Immortal Beloved". Zog from "5th Element" was awesome too.
Gary Oldman singing at the end. swoon, even when he forgot a few of the words...lol ;)
5th element as zorg is awsome MY FAVOURATE.

We youtubers should create two petitions: One to get him an Oscar, and one to get him to grow back that mustache, because DAYUM.
Don't correct me. He is English he was born in London, New Cross. Christian Bale is Welsh. Please do not insult my Gary Oldman knowledge.
Gary oldman is really down to earth..listen to him on opie and Anthony
I'd like to just imagine that Gary Oldman is such a nice guy because he gets all the negativity and aggressions out playing stark villains.
he can sing good as well.
He's phenomenal.
Is the industry so broken that a truly gifted actor can be over looked for awards because he doesn't have a publicist?
7:28 you have to be that adorable Gary? siriusly? damn...
You want Gary Oldman for a Villain, you have to show me the money
The most villainous line ever
🤣🤣🤣
I rank Oldman right up there with Peck, Tracy, Guiness, Sydow, and Hopkins. I would rather watch an Oldman performance than any amount of Olivier, Burton, or Connery. Io invece mi porterei proprio lui sull'isola deserta!! 😉💓💓💓
Stansfield in Leon, although both films were out around the same time...
he always has great specs
Thank you for being done with the villains, Gary. Gordon was important to me.
Perfect actor! Best villain in the Leon! Gary Oldman is stutter??
He doesn't normally have a stutter, but he seemed to pick one up for a while around the Tinker Tailor period.
Stutters, like word habits can sometimes rub off on people. I've seen it happen with other people.
I know he's British but his real voice still throws me off cause he changes it so much.
Great interviewer
Love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu tooooooooooo Gary:-) am or Mina(Meena)
He can sing!......Damn!
1:30
luv u gary oldman
Omg ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Has Gary Oldman ever been into a musical film before like les miserables? Because i think He could do great with that? :D
8:15
I thought he would have said Nil By Mouth would be one of the movies he'd take to a desert island.
Maybe it's better they haven't nominated him. Some who receive it, (especially newcomers) get it and hardly are in good parts again. i tried to google gary oldman...however misspelled his name and forgot the "R"out of GARY....the image results were shocking
the greatest!!
i can't seem to pick out his accent
Been a fan of Gary's and Tim's since watching Mike Leigh's Meantime in the early 80's. An exceptional actor who I'm sure would make a good director too, having had a go at it back in the 90's with the hard hitting 'Nil by Mouth'.
