Age has nothing to do with it so that point is moot, well obviously it does to some extent but still, no opinions are wrong, my top three are based on personal preference, but these actors are the ones that impress me the most, there so diverse and versatile, I wont debate it with you because its simply not possible to determine the greatest actors is it, really?
Leon B We agree with you. Our top two actors are Gary Oldman and Aidan Turner. Aidan is very young, but his work in his last season of Being Human was unbelievable! He has the makings of a young Oldman himself. An actor does not have to be old to be great. When Gary was much younger, he was still brilliant! Just not too many people knew that yet ;)

***** I'm not a Cumberbatch fan at all but I don't think he is overrated as an actor but overexposed and especially over promoted by Brits as their main symbol and future British movie star. Since I'm not British I don't understand very well what people think he has on other young actors like Tom Hardy, Fassbender, etc. I know he is an intelligent man and he has his charm but it's not like Hardy or Fassbender or Hiddleston were stupid or they fell out of the ugly tree.

I love what Jennifer Lawrence says, "he's such a good actor that he can't get famous because he's unrecognizable in everything". That's why I put him above everyone else in acting. He's completely transparent to his characters.
Exactly unlike Brando for example who always seems like he’s acting a performance rather than living the character. Much like Daniel Day Lewis or Ben Kingsley who inhabit their characters. John Hurt is another example.

Agreed, but also people say some person or film should've won without knowing the other nominations that particular year. Also, some years Oscar-winners aren't even good, they just were the 'best' of a bad lot.
I like the Oscars for bringing attention to the nominees though and adding them to a watch list, especially the feature documentaries you'd never see advertised.

Actors like Pacino, De Niro, Jack Nicholson and PS Hoffman are special because they create something profoundly charismatic and engaging, that you get charmed by and immersed into.. but it's very true that Gary Oldman for some reason truly disappears into a character-so much that I frankly had never noticed him as an actor until recently.
I think Gary's talent as an actor is not really rooted in charisma, but empathy: an extraordinary ability to completely understand how someone else feels to the point you can get as close as humanly possible to becoming them.
Let me try to explain why Gary Oldman is regarded so highly among actors: There are so many brilliant actors in British history. For example, Sean Connery is an amazing actor, so is Laurence Olivier. But Laurence Olivier can not do what Sean Connery does. And Sean Connery can not do what Laurence Olivier does. Gary Oldman, on the other hand, can do both.
Sean Connery had great screen presence and I as good with in his limited range but I would not call him great.
@@anthonybrogan390 I think he had a bit more range than most think....look at him in something like Lumet's "The Offence", where he's pretty damn great....thing is, whenever he usually tried out roles like that they were a box office failure.

One of the most iconic actors of all time. The first time I saw him was in "Immortal Beloved" and from that moment on, I was a fan of this man's work. As the actors stated here in the vid, he most definitely "becomes" the character. In this film, Gary disappeared and emerged as Ludwig van Beethoven. Absolutely amazing.......

The man can play anything! I sat through this odd little movie called "Tippy Toes" where he played Matthew McConaughy's dwarf brother. Omg. I sat through this thing & then saw "Gary Oldman" written in the credits. I wracked my brain trying to think what scene he was in. Maybe his part was cut out. Then I realized he was the dwarf brother. Wtf?! Now that's talent. Like Joseph Gordon Leavitt said in the video said, he's a true chameleon.
Here I am, watching again this video. I have been fan of Gary for 20 year, that's the half of my life, and I feel a kind of pride of listening all these actors (some of them excellent actors) recognising his superiority. And at the end we can see his modesty and sence of humor. That was delightful.

The thing I think that most people love about him is that he's not egotistical, what you see is what you get no two ways about it.

Gary Oldman is the greatest actor I ever seen. Leon, Dracula, & The Contender, are great examples of his versatility. Three distinct dialects done perfectly. Tom Hardy is a young Gary Oldman, with that dialect ability. Ardy's character in The Peaky Blinders, Alfieri Solomons is exceptional.

absolutely wonderful in dracula...centuries old transylvanian count with superb exotic accent, charming handsome romantic lead, disgusting bat/wolf-like monster...it`s all there...and played so convincingly by an ordinary looking bloke....the other actors are right..a chameleon who disappears into the part,...genius.

Gary Oldman is a working actor and acts a lot more so it naturally shows more flaws in his career but he manages to shine even in mediocre (sometimes bad) movies, while Day-Lewis is almost always supported by meaty, award bait material. But this video was made as a tribute to the wonderful and brilliant unique talent that is Gary Oldman, and not to compare him with other actors ;)

They are by far the top 2 actors on the planet, arguably the greatest actors of all time. I personally prefer Oldman, i think he has played more enjoyable characters to watch, also even his roles that a lot of people skip like Interstate 60 and Nobody's Baby are incredible. But both Oldman and Day-Lewis are in a league of their own
***** I think you nailed it. Couldn't have put it better myself. Gary oldman can play every character; EVERYYYOONNEEE!! lol joke intended. Yet Daniel Day Lewis has given possibly even more powerful performances in very specific cases, like There Will Be Blood for me personally was changed from a generic film into a complete mindblowing masterpiece due to Daniels commitment to the character. However Gary Oldman is skilled as a chameleon actor in my opinion, and is pretty much on a par with Daniel's power, but in a different way I can't explain.

If he never gets an Oscar, he should definitely receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. That award showcases the actors entire career, which in Gary's case has been outstanding.
I would say Christian Bale has taken the baton from Gary Oldman in being a chameleon and fantastic in every role he takes on.

No actor transforms the way he has done in his great work not even Daniel Day Lewis. Also Gary acts with such instinctual and emotional power. He is an artistic acting genius!
