- there has been a flour mill on this site I'm told for 300 years....i thought it was just over 200
most of the original site was demolished in the 60s and the wilson tower was built
some of the old buildings still remain and i have been very lucky to take a look inside one of them before the place closed and will maybe be lost forever
for this area it is definitely the end of an era.......
there is more history on this place to be found online this is just a little snippet

In 1871 my 2x Gr Grandfather, Peter Hayes was a rice miller and Foreman at Edward Hutchinson's Flour Mill Burlington st. EH died in 1895 Holly Lodge. Took a long time to dig up that info. The family lived @ 38 Henry St. In 1881 Peter died from a burst blood vessel while working in the mill . They were living @ 47 Cornwallis. The family then went down that inevitable slope with the mother dying and the youngest 2 children being sent to Canada. My g grandfather was 14 and that's how my mother's family ended up in Toronto. Thanks for the video
The pond that you mentioned was used as an Emergency Water Supply. To supplement this supply there were 6 special fire hydrants, (5" outlets rather than the regular 2½"), at strategic points on the surrounding roads.
I remember the pond having a couple of swans on it.
What a great video its a dingle landmark .......i used to go to school with you and your brother and sister at malachys :) we used to live at the back of yous in mann street and i used to knock about with yous about age 5 i can also remember havin a raid with you and your kid when the roads wer gettin done and i got a fat lip from an halfie🤣🤣... good memories round the leyton view tho ....boss place years ago ...keep up the good work la😎

Thank you for this. My grandfather worked for Spillers pushing a pen for over fifty years. Train from Chester every day. Miserably married, and she to him, they escaped each other every summer when he would watch a fortnight of cricket. Long service certificate at home. For Spillers, not the marriage...
Hi , I used to be micks supervisor at the mill, I was there for 20 years.
It's a pity mick didn't take you down to the old side basement, colloquially known as the catacombs, you would have been well impressed, try again just for that little video, the iron works and stonework is phenomenal.
Good luck, brought back strong memories.
Hello frank it was a quick tour and to be fair on mick he was working when he took.me around and risked getting disciplined
Id have loved to have seen the basements
I have since been back here but its a no no but im well happy with wjat footage i got

Great memories.

Hello there... happened across this video just now. So, my grandad worked in the mill for 64 years, and the house at the bottom the lad in the film says was the canteen, well I used to live in that house when I was a child. If you would like a chat, let me know!
Further to previous comments, the mill pond was emergency water supply for fire brigade, the old cottage was for the very first cocky watchman, it is grade 2 listed..
cheers for the info mate much appreciated and thanks for watching
Brought back great memories George of when I was on the wagons. Went there a few times bulk tankers. Never really realised how big the place was tbh. Keep it up.

worked there in the late 70s my dad worked there most of his life,Jim Spencer along with Ambage Cuttsy Albert Ellis Sid Griffiths Charlie Hamill Bob Evans Billy Mac all on the driving side and many more who sadly I can't remember at this time. Thanks for bringing back memories.
Fantastic video mate, I’ve always been interested in this place from the noise outside, the size and the reservoir in case of fire etc (which there was one on the site many many years ago) real shame it’s closing and as you said very unusual.. No official notice yet the odd car is parked inside which I assume belongs to security, greetings from a fellow Dingle Head haha TheFlorence institute will be the last landmark standing at this rate
Great Video mate. My Uncle worked there in the seventies, what a place. So sad to see it closed. Does anyone remember the Spice and Pepper Mill just off Stanhope Street? The smell was amazing 😃👍

My family ( Dunn) lived in Shearer Street, my grandfather was married from Corn Street and my great grandfather lived in Yate St. shearer Street is gone but the other two are still going strong and Corn St looks great. My grandfather died from ingestion of corn grain dust ( no H&S then). I’ve walked around the outside a few times but this tour was great - many thanks.
I was watching a documentary about corn Street the othere day when that road an another one were getting a full referb back in the 70s with the Co op group I was surprised at the amount of flour on there windowsills from the mill Iv always liked the look of them houses but I was surprised it was like walking in to the aigburth house the layout was the same x

I used to work for ADM, I left around ten years ago and as part of my role, I was normally at this site a few times a year, starting from when we bought it from Spillers. It looks no real different here to how it did when I last saw it. I only found this video after seeing on their web site that the Liverpool mill isn't listed any more and I can't find any information as to why it closed and exactly when. From what I remember, we bought the Spillers mills in Liverpool, Newcastle and Tilbury. ADM closed the Newcastle mill and now it looks like the Liverpool one has gone as well. I suppose with Seaforth just down the road, it's not too surprising considering the economic climate.
I got on very well with Carole who was the GM when I was working there.
Ah I didn't know it had closed down! Walked past it every day for school for years. Definite end of an era 😥
i cant believe nothing has been done with the place since closure
thanks for watching jen
I was the chief Erector for the installation, of the current flour mill in Wilson Kings, in Toxteth, it was so sad to hear of its recent closure. But I will always have a permanent reminder of the mill, has I married the senior laboratory technician.
Enjoyable video, thank you.
Pleasure glad you liked it
That was amazing, thank you
cheers glad you liked it
If I followed Mick round for a bit you would have to ring 999 I was wrecked watching him. I wish I had a mobile when I was delivering in Liverpool from the late 80s till 2012 I must have been them all, all the tanneries are gone that's for sure ☹️
Absolutely brill was born in harlow street went to Wellington rd school brings back memories
Thanks ron sorry late reply glad you liked the video
My dads firm hauled wheatfeed out of there for over 40 years and I had been going for about 15 years as a passenger and driver
I'm surprised Mick didn't cook you a breakfast as he knows more about that than flour milling, site supervisor my arse 😃
Ha ha i owe him a breskfast i think
@@g2emedia1977 I could have given you a somewhat more informed tour & history, I was the engineering manager there for the last 27 years.
The first recorded flour mill on that site was 1622 so 400 years!
I had previously emailes adm to ask for a tour before closure but got no reply went down and was told no so when this oppertunity came up i jumped at it the houses at the back would have been good to see but im pretty sure they will all have been modernised inside
1622 wow thats nuts didnt know it stretched back that far
@@Kousaburo He buggered off long before the end and one member of my staff is still there now 😂
@@MrOvershoot Looking at your profile, there's a name I remember. I was in the IT department in Brentwood and we met many times when I was in Liverpool.
See what being a famous local celebrity youtuber gets you 😉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ha ha far from it mate was just very very lucky to get in here
Closing because ADM won't invest in relining a couple of the silos and replacing the grain silos....
Really you think thats the case
@@g2emedia1977 Les knows ;)
Grew up down there. at the end of the Millys . Beaufort st
Happy days i remeber you mate
