Thanks for reacting to this amazing duet. Li Yugang is trained in traditional Chinese opera where men sing the female roles and Dimash is classically trained in the western style. They combined so fantastically well.

Dimash's friends would make him wait until last when they went to karaoke as none of them wanted to sing after him 🤣

Li Yugang: Ancient Chinese tradition prevented women from performing for men at the Old Opera House in Beijing. From this tradition came a style called “Nan Dan” in which the man plays a female role in the Beijing Opera. One that was a restriction, today turned into culture and the greatest exponent of this culture in China is the singing and performer Li Yugang: Who created his own theatrical play (Who toured the world in 2015) and released several CDs (successfully of sales) he won 4 Denny award in Beijing.

Welcome to Dimash. So much more to discover. So many amazing perfromances but my favorite is Ikanaide fror the Tokyon Jazz Festival for vocal perfection and emotional performance.

In recent years both his bass-baritone and his countertenor-soprano range got even stronger somehow. They just sound a bit better. But he stopped with the whistle notes. Maybe because people see it as a gimmick or they might be unreliable. 🤷‍♀️ But I miss them. 😅
But since he can still really sing in that high range, where others press out some weak whistle notes, it’s not really necessary, I suppose. 😊❤
And his bass notes are heavenly as well. 🥰

You have no idea still what he can do with that voice. If you have not seen Ikanaide, you need to. It will be in Japanese. Just Dimash, the camera in studio.

I thought this performance was confusing and a little weird when I first heard it, but I have grown to love it, and even looked up Li YuGang. That was really fun. I’m glad you reacted to this! I hadn’t seen this in awhile. I enjoyed your appreciation.

It would be utterly absurd to deny that Dimash is the greatest vocalist in the world. This is universally acknowledged. No one - least of all me, who has followed him with awe since early 2017 - denies this. However, it has become increasingly frustrating to see the phenomenal singers who perform duets with him so consistently overlooked. Giants such as Gong Lin Na, Huang Xiao Yun, Tengger or Li Yu Gang deserve much more than a mere “he’s a good singer.” Each of them boasts a prestigious career, unique vocal characteristics, refined technique, and often a cultural tradition that sets them apart, offering something Dimash doesn't necessarily possess, simply because he belongs to a different culture .
For instance, Li Yu Gang is 16 years older than Dimash and has a longer career, a fact that, considering Dimash’s psychology and moral compass, he likely respects deeply. Li Yu Gang is a superstar in Beijing opera and traditional Chinese music, with a particular connection to Russian folklore (evident in his performances of “Moscow Nights” and duets with Vitas). While Huo Zun may have come close, no one in the world can better introduce the traditional vocal arts of China than Mr. Yu, a realm of pure enchantment for those willing to delve into it.
